how to time stretch audio for Island Mysterosa edit

Author
Time
hi
I am curerntly working a project : the full mysterious island of captain nemo english (or at least the best scenes from the tv series
cut in to the theactrical version. I really wish to get this project finished .

as im 22 years old and

junior in high school (I know how it sounds strange to many of you)

anyways I have been struggling to synch the english audio.

for this project of mine
by using mpg video wizard i was able to find the length of the two clips

heres my formula V=11816.12 sec and A =6339.56 sec.

I then calculated the difference and got 572.68

unfortunately all of the programs iv'e tried only time stretch in timecode rather than seconds

if some one could help me out i would truly appertiate it.

thanks

You could try and use Goldwave to edit the audio.

Or you might be able to use a program called DGPulldown

Here's a nice little free command line utility:
http://www.surina.net/soundtouch/soundstretch.html

Your audio is 6339.56s and you want to make it 5766.88s?

6339.56/5766.88 * 100% = 109.93%, so you want to increase the tempo by 9.93%.

The command would be:
soundstretch input.wav output.wav -tempo=9.93

This will make your audio the desired length. However, syncing audio to video is not as simple as just adjusting the length. If you explain clearly what you are trying to do, then you might get some better help.

Did you capture the video from your VHS tape at the same time as the audio?

no the video is from the french dvd .
and the audio is fron the dutch print which is in english

btw i accidentally gave you the wrong number for the video duration it's actually : V = 6065.76

and audio = 6339.57

this very reason is because i forgot rip on of the vobs with decripter etc.

and any could you re do the math.

as I try like 25x different ways to decifer your mathmatical processes.

could you redo the math and post the factor

Moth3r it would be great if you could please reply ASAP

thanks

France and Holland both use the PAL/SECAM system, so there should be no need to do any "time stretching" of the audio.

The reason I asked if you had captured the VHS video, is that it's useful to have a video reference to assist with synching audio. You can load up the captured AVI into VirtualDub, chop/edit it so that it matches the video from the DVD frame-for-frame. The audio saved out from your edited file will be in sync with the DVD video.

Do you have an analogue capture card?

excpt i had it converted to ntsc
at a transfer house
so how should i sync the footage

so what to you suggest???

btw ive found that it is in sync in some places and not in others

so if i chop the audio in the parts where it does no remain in sync

and use the timecode time stretch tool in vegas in turn should i be able to align the audio to the video

in perfect sync.
thanks
james

ps: moth3r try to reply ASAP....,

So, you had the PAL VHS tape from Holland converted into NTSC. I don't know what kind of method the transfer house will have used, but I would be cautious about using this as your source. I don't suppose you can get hold of a player that can play the original PAL tape?

I would still suggest that the easist way to obtain audio sync is to match video to video then copy the audio across. If you don't have the means to capture onto your PC, do you have a DVD recorder?

It's a simple concept, crude, but effective (there are probably better ways to do it but this method is easy to implement).

Say you have 2 source files, A and B.

A is a capture of the audio and video from your VHS tape; audio is in synch.
B is the video from the French retail DVD.

You edit A so that it is exactly the same as B - same total length, scene changes are at the same frame numbers and so on, then you save out the audio. This audio will be an exact sync match for the video from B.

You can use any program that will allow you to edit AVIs then save out audio. Try VirtualDub, it's free.
