Basically, after the scenes that are being ripped from the legend documentary are sent to me i will have all of the footage needed... Im also getting the mac either next week or the week after and then i have to wait to buy final cut pro, so it will be a little while before I begin working on the project (like i always say, as much as id like to do the project, if anybody wanted to do it I could send you the exact scene breakdowns if you wanted it done beforehand - because honestly Im more concerned with this project getting done than doing it myself - although i kinda want to) but I want to thank all of you for your support and ish. To be honest, I wanted to do this a long time ago, but up until a few months ago when I discovered this website and what all of you are doing, I had no idea how... so I thank all of you.

Stay up, stay in touch, peace people

I plan to use footage from the G.O.D. storyline video, The documentary 'A Warrior's Journey', Enter the Dragon, the 1978 Game of Death and The documentary 'Bruce Lee: Legend' to reconstruct the closest possible film to what Bruce had wanted.

What is the "G.O.D. storyline video"? Is that the same thing as "Game of Death 2" or "The True Game of Death"?

Sorry guys, I just got a new cable modem ( I was actually running on the old shark fin ) and its a Motorola Surfboard SB4200 and it will only hook up to the computer through usb. The problem is, I use my own personal computer in my room and cannot get the modem to recognize the ethernet card, hook up to the router, or work with the network connections previously installed. Only the usb.

So now I'm typing on the family computer. I'm sorry it took so long to respond, but I finally just got a chance to use it. I wanted to answer a couple questions.

this video is available in the video section of www.bruceleedivinewind.com. No it is not the same as 'Game of Death 2' or 'True Game of Death' (which are in fact the same movie just with two different names). This looks like a documentary filmed of the remaining missing scenes that seems to have been filmed almost as a part of the 'A Warrior's Journey' Documentary but never made it.

Although I doubt any of this would be helpful cause many of the out takes are featured on DVDs that I have if you'd like to send them I would be much obliged. Plus some of that looks like it would be good as extras .

The Bruce Lee Legend one (not the Man and the Legend one) is the exact DVD I am looking for. There are either one or two very short scenes of Inosanto and somebody training outside of the pagoda with the other guards. I know they aren't really much but the reason I am so adament about it is that I want all of the original footage possible.

I began extracting the scenes you are looking for. Send me a PM with your email address and I will contact you about the scenes.

Ash

I tried sending you a pm but it didn't work. I'll try again on this computer cause I'm actually having more luck with it.

Well I wasn't originally planning on buying the Mac for this project. I'm in audio engineering and studio recording technologies and I wanted a Mac to build a project studio in my home. But where as my original plan was to buy all of the equipment for recording with the Mac, I'm buying it sooner so I can start this project.

(The edition with 17 tracks not just 10)

It came with the E.t.D. boxset a few years ago.

I never heard John Barry's Score for the released "Game of Death", but I can't think of it out doing E.t.D. by Lalo Schifrin.

FF

That would be actually pretty cool. I was thinking (for anyone out there who likes this kind of music) of adding a bit of Time by Pink Floyd to the movie, seeing as it was used as a theme in The Big Boss (Bruce Lee's first movie).

WOW!

Just got the import 2-DVD set of "Game of Death" from the U.K. in the mail, and on the second DVD there is a montage of deleted fight scenes with the real Bruce Lee from the 1972 pagoda fight. This is not the same footage as used in "A warrior's journey".
This is allot like a bloopers real and has some great shots of Bruce being cocky .

You MUST include this in your project 5acrifice. That is, if you want all the Game of Death footage.

I have the John Barry score if it will help. I also have a Medi Asia version of Gmae of Death with the greenhouse fight. I also have the Furtune Star 5 disc region 3 Bruce Lee set. Not sure what footaage is on there that you can use though.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

I think I have some of that same footage on my Fortune Star set, and it even has video montages set to music of just the fights.

the footage on the second dvd of the Game of death uk dvd came from the japanese dvd, "Bruce Lee in G.O.D." you are right, the footage is a little different and they use the John Barry Music in it. the only technical difference between the uk dvd and the japanese dvd, is that the Japanese dvd is anamorphic for the footage. And also Bruce Lee in G.O.D. is a 90 minute documentary that relates the making of Game of death with actors, only the last 30 minutes feature the footage with Bruce Lee. I bought this dvd in 2001

But there is also an assemblage of nothing but silent "out-takes" that are mixed together with fast moving NEW (tecno dance type) music that is something other then the reconstruction of the pagoda fight from "A warrior's journey". Yes the Pagoda footage you speak of (that is a little different and they use the John Barry Music) is also on disc two, but in another section away from this blooper reel thing.

In that review you gave a link to, they say that there are another few minutes of rare out-takes played during the credits. This sounds more like what I am talking about. Now, I would like to know. Do they put the text for the credits over that out-take footage as it plays on the "Bruce Lee in G.O.D." DVD?

With what?

"How do I make a fan edit?"

I'd start by using MPEG Streamclip to rip all the footage from the DVDs in PhotoJPEG format, 80% quality, 720x480 (size if NTSC). Change your AV settings in Final Cut Pro to match -- 24 fps, PhotoJPEG format, 16x9, 720x480. If you've got PAL material at 25fps, import it using the "interpret 25 fps as 24 fps" setting.

Then start editing.

Wow! It has been a while. Well, updates I guess would be a good place to start. I got Final Cut Pro working. I've been at school for audio recording and working at Jackie the Jokeman's (from Howard Stern) studio. I haven't had the time really. But now I finally do.... Anywho, I loaded the clips into Final Cut and started marking in/out points and began loading all the clips into the timeline. I am finished with the credits, I have my sister working on the intro using Photoshop and iMovie, and I still need to rip the ending fight from the real Game of Death dvd. I can have this done eventually, the only problem I have is involved with resizing the video and cropping it. Now, the ending Bruce Lee footage is letterboxed (4:3 but appears widescreen) and the rest of the footage is just 4:3. Now the footage from the GOD Storyline has subtitles burned into it, and I either wanted to resize the video and make the two match or resize it and crop it so that the subtitles are no longer there and I can add them in later. Now I have my Mac with final cut and imovie, ffmpegxx or whatever it is called, Mac the Ripper, and a few other programs, I also have a PC and am will to do some of the editing on that if I must. This is my first fan edit, so some feedback and help would be hugely appreciated, if I need to PM anyone for help or anything let me know. I'll keep working... thanks in advance...

I love the way the covers looking... thanks man... soon as I can get a preview copy ready I'll PM you to send it. Thanks again

Well, Final Cut ain't too bad, it is a lot like iMovie, just more in depth. So I need some input on what I should do. Like I said, the footage of Bruce Lee is 4:3 letterbox and the footage from the GOD storyline is just fullscreen. Now I could crop it, however, some of the subtitles from the GOD storyline can still be seen above the letterbox bar on the bottom of the screen. I don't know if I can stretch the video so that it will not be a problem or if I can resize the video and load it widescreen and save it letterboxed. I want the film to look like a film (as much as it can at least - we are talking about footage from the 70s mixed with footage from the 90s) and I want to make the video look as nice as possible. This is my first time dabbling in Final Cut, like I said I usually use iMovie, but if I could get some help I could probably get this done a lot quicker. Thanks for the feedback in advance and once again ASH, that cover looks awesome so far! Thank YOU!

I am at work right now but when I get home I will post screen caps showing the difference between the real Bruce Lee footage and the fake. I'll also post pictures of the scenes from the fake Bruce Lee footage where the subtitles can be seen and I will circle what exactly is seen. Thanks in advance everyone!!

Any suggestions, my only idea now is to just add the rest of the subtitles under the ones that are visible and for ones that are partially cut of to just rewrite them under that.
Author
Time
Well, I guess all I can do really is just leave the subtitles as they are and write the rest of them under and if any of them are cut off add them at the bottom as well. I am waiting on a R1 copy of Game of Death (mine is R3) but once I get that I can start editing the video altogether. I plan to get that done rather quickly if I can just get a little more experience with Final Cut and my sister who is a photographer is going to create a new opening title sequence using Adobe Photoshop and then I'll edit the audio and ish. For the DVD I was going to use iDVD but I have a copy of DVD Studio Pro over at my job so I may use that. I have some of the Bruce Lee Longstreet Footage and I plan to make a trailer for the DVD. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

I don't want to dissapoint with this DVD, although I guess I really can't cause it is my own creation, it is just, since this is my first edit if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please PLEASE let me know...

thanks

peace
