On 9/12, I bought three of the trilogy sets from Best Buy. These were the sets that had the three movies in the "fairly okay, but nothing spectacular" looking tin. I bought one for myself which I did not open right away. The other two were for my sister and her brother in law. She gave me the money for both sets and she let me open hers so I could take a look at it in order for me to determine whether or not I wanted to keep the set. At first, I was not impressed and gave my sister's set to her and was going to return my unopened set for a full refund. My sister, on the other hand, loved the set, but hated the tin. It wouldn't fit properly on her shelf, so she didn't want it.
I got an idea.
I gave my sister $10 for just the tin. Then I went home and started two auctions on eBay for the tin from my sister and the tin from my still unopened set. Amazingly, both tins went for $35 a piece. After shipping and all, I had $70. I only paid $60 for the set at Best Buy, so I got all my money back. I got the $60 that I paid for the set at Best Buy and the $10 that I gave my sister for her tin. Essentially, I used Lucas' marketing gimmick with the tins against him and got all three movies for free. No money came out of my pocket at all. Pretty cool, huh?
So now....I'd like to share with you what I did with this set that I paid ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for...
This is what Lucas released...
Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
Return Of The Jedi
This is what I wanted...

Oh! I got three free DVD cases too.
