Thanks for the clips, R2D2...

The Luke & Ben clip shows some terrible interlacing artifacts... I really wonder how that happens when IVTC-ing PROPERLY from the master tapes.

Wow, the colour is just SO MUCH better in the GOUT, or in Moth3r/Citizen. (Kudos to those guys, excellent transfers.)

In the starwars.com comparison, I find nearly every shot looks BETTER in the old one. Yes, it's often slightly softer but everything's not blue.

So ... unless the X0 guys have a rabbit to pull out of the hat ... I think it's game over.

That is what I like to hear, Zion. Keep up the hard work.

Could someone post screen Captures of Return of the Jedi? I haven't seen any Screen Capture of it, and would like to see some before I buy it. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Wish I could, but my discs have not arrived yet. According to the USPS they are still somewhere between Richmond, CA and here (Tucson, AZ), and have been since the 11th.

When I finally get them I'll be checking out ROTJ first, as I've watched it the most. I'd like to compare the wobble of the Faces LD against the DVD, check for moire I noticed in the Vader/Emperor walking scene (and compare the highlight brightness and clarity of the stormtrooper extras), compare audio quality, and see if anything was missing in the side/disk changes. I should also be able to detect the layer change.

After that, the "Gonzo" set most often looked the best to me.

Are you looking at the correct images?

The Moth3r is much better than the Gonzo.

*looks*

Hmm, yes you are correct. Yet I'm pretty sure I didn't see the "Moth3r" screenshots this morning. Maybe I skipped right by them somehow, but they look good so I don't know how I managed to do that page after page.

Generally, the 2004 transfer is sharper, and generally has more stable colours... however they're the wrong hues and the saturation is also way off. So yes, overall the GOUT is more "pleasing" to me anyway.

That's what I mean. The "GOUT" looks the most accurate to me. It just looks like Star Wars. The 2004 editions look all wrong in that basic sense (as if the film were deteriorating and nothing looks real anymore).

Erm, hey everyone. I have the new release in region 1. Would you like me to try and capture some screens?

That would be great, let us know your method for capturing (Zion recommends VirtualDubMod, a program I don't have - when I tried to visit the website it was so slow I gave up on it... you may have more luck), if you could post PNG's that would be best... and any of the screenshots on Zion's Site would be nice. You can upload single frames to imageshack, or if you've got a lot you may want to zip them up and use rapidshare.

None of us here like Lucas or Lucasfilm.
I have death wishes on Lucas and Macullum.
we could all probably get 10s of thousands of dollars!

I didn't even notice that was his first post!! Where are my manners? Welcome to the forums!

PS: Zion, I just tried the sourceforge page, and it seemed to load this time. I've found sourceforge to be generally a bit iffy lately.

Plus, he can't call the 30th anniversary set the 30th anniversary set if it doesn't have the film that was made 30 years ago, right?

Heres the problem with your logic-

Somebody could have said, "...He cant call it the Twentieth Anniversary set if it doesnt have the film that was made 20 years ago, right?"

And because we thought that way....we got stuck with the SPECIAL EDITIONS.

I really like the way the O-OT looks on this new set. It feels more like film with all it's imperfections.

R2D2: did you resize the clips you posted earlier? R2 looks short and fat in it.

BigBlueRig: Awesome animated Gif... is that your own work?

Thanks, I've now uploaded these (link).

This is weird. Although the GOUT version has more horizontal detail, it looks like vertical detail has been filtered. Compare the width of the black line in shot 4:

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/3729/untitled1copyyc7.jpg

(GOUT - top, Moth3r - bottom. The increase in grain is also evident in this shot.)

So - is this loss of vertical because of the upscaling from NTSC to PAL? Please can somebody grab some comparison frames from the NTSC release?
