So, this is how the DVDs are going to look...

Not bad, but not good either.

As sad as it is to say, I'm gonna get them cuz I don't think we're ever going to get any better.

It looks good enough that I can live with it, but it certainly doesn't live up to the hype that Sansweet has been saying since May.

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

If those are genuine, then this is not good. Not good at all.

Which one is the DVD?

Exactly.

UGH, I don't know if I even care about SW anymore. Even though I try to watch the OOT and forget about the SE, the PT...I just can't. Everytime I watch the OOT I keep thinking about the dumb changes and how screwed over the fans are, and how Lucas has ruined my favorite movies of all time.

@Moth3r:

Yep, that's right. BUT, it's good to see that all your great work wasn't wasted. I am still in the process of combining your transfer with more audio tracks and bonus features to create three nice PAL-DL discs.

Thanks for what you've done... now there's no reason for me to buy the official crap.

Judging from these screenshots, the "official crap" doesn't look so bad at all. They look about as good as ADVs first line of Robotech DVDs--not perfect, but watchable (and the trade-off is the same too... these may not have the best video in the world, but at the very least they're the original versions, without any touch-ups).

That being said, I'm not sure I want them. At $30 a pop, and with the unedited version of Godzilla coming out next month for the first time ever in Region 1 (and frankly, I find Godzilla is more important to me than Star Wars will ever be... sorry to say)...

I reckon there are several ways in which I could improve on my original transfer.

What I would like to see is an objective comparison between the official version, the finished X0 project and an improved Moth3r transfer. Just think what would happen if a reputable home entertainment magazine or website was to report that the fan-created bootlegs are higher quality than the official DVD release. That's the sort of publicity our cause needs.

(Saying that, the official DVDs do seem to have an absence of dot-crawl that all laserdisc transfers suffer from to some degree.)

Are these real? I mean, in the gallerys in the links provided, they had shots like this:
Han&Chewie promo photo
SE Jabba
So, are these shots at the bottom supposed to be generic Star Wars shots, or 'screen shots'? Some of these shots are promo shots, that aren't in the movie, or SE shots.

The stuff at the bottom is just general promo-stuff regarding all the releases of the movies. The DVD-shots are from the upcoming DVDs, since there's also a review for all three of them (in German, and not very in-depth).

What's with the speckle noise in almost all the screenshots? It's almost like a noise or sharpen filter was used too much and what we are seeing is the result.....

The screenshot of Han and Greedo in the Cantina is really bad...how embarrassing for Lucas and all his cronies....

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Define real. The other promo shots on that page have been there for months. They have nothing to do with the dvd release.

The screen shots of the DVD made me a little queazy...

The screenshots - if they are indeed from the DVD - have been resized to a 1:1 aspect ratio.

Actually, I knew no matter how shitty the offical OOT looked you were going to say that....thanks for not letting me down.....

^^This looks more like the "Han shoots his foot" release to me.

But we have to wait and see what the NTSC version looks like, the PAL appears to be a resized NTSC

You guys realize these are 72 dpi images for the web, right?

And you do realize that the dpi of an image only specifies which size it has when you print it out, right?

What the fuck are you on about?

PAL native resolution is 720 x 576. To convert to natural aspect ratio, resize vertically to 720 x 540.

No, Randy has a point - take a look at the lego menu screen, which presumably will be crystal clear and perfect on the DVD. Well, the screenshot looks crappy and compressed. I don't think we can trust these images as a true representation of what the films will look like.

Not to mention that monitors are generally different from a television. But "what the fuck am I on about"..... whatever that means.

I'm sorry, but NO, Randy doesn't have a point, since dpi-count has NO relation to what we're talking about.

Compression on the other hand, as you say, is in fact a factor that comes into play here. But still, the sharpness of the screenshots isn't exactly stunning, and that's not a compression issue.

Actually they should've scaled it to 768x576, since that is actual native PAL-res, but after all the footage was upscaled from NTSC, so that scaling it down again doesn't really make it any worse.

But what I'm saying is the lego screen doesn't look too sharp either, and I assume that will be perfect on the DVD. If you want to get technical and have a go at Randy about DPI or whatever that's up to you, but his basic point remains - these are merely screenshots and poor ones at that. The DVD will look better than these screenshots. I'm not saying it's going to look great, but it will look better.

For example, take a look at the ESB menu. Do you really think this blurry image is a good representation of what the actual DVD menu will look like on screen?

Thank you. Get "technical" all you want... but these are images are compressed for the web. If you think this is the same as a DVD to Television screen, fine. Go ahead.

+1 for the non-tech heads. Screenshots do not match what the DVD will look like, even though certain inferences can be made.
