While alot of people probably hate this battle from the first movie altogether, I find I can somewhat suspend my disbelief about the extremely CGI'ed up part of the movie, espcially since at that point I'm there to see the Jedi fight and could give a rats ass about the Gungans, however while most shots are are fine, I find this one to look almost too "toyish" if you know what I mean. I mean hell they say George was the first person to come up with the "used" universe.....however that's obviously not the case with this shot at the Prequels in general. This shot just takes me out of the moment everytime I see it.
Palpatine has remained one of my favourite characters throughout the entire series. He was always one of the characters I wanted to know more about (even before the Prequels). However the reason I'm posting this is mainly because of the ridiculous look on his face. He goes from angry to concentrating on the fight, to this hilarious look on his face during a swordfight. Can't help but titter every time I see it.....what were you thinking George!? Come on, how could you not catch that?
Ultimately, I still like the scene with Jabba The Hutt in A New Hope. It's another scene that helps establish events later in the movies instead of being one of those changes that's supposed to help tie in the Original Trilogy to the Prequels. With that being said, the odd time I do catch this scene I'm somewhat taken out of it. I did a bad job with this capture because you can't fully see what I'm talking about, but if you watch the scene, watch Solo's shadow over Jabba The Hutt. I know it sounds silly really, but the fact that his hand's shadow over Jabba never fails to remind me that Jabba is CGI in the scene. Doesn't quite ruin the scene for me but still takes me out of the moment.
This is more of an O-OT complaint than a Special Edition complaint. It's been fixed up for the DVD release and since I don't own a bootleg of the O-OT on DVD, this screen cap from the Special Edition will do. Witihin the original film and still in the SE, this fall always made me go "what the hell just happened?" I still don't get the purpose of this scene (and no doubt some of you will try and put it in perspective for me) and the fall always looked too phony....I can't help it purists but this is one O-OT thing I think was silly. Takes me out of the moment for a second but we're good again once he does get inside the tube although still...wait.....is he just trying to get away from Vader or is he trying to end it all and when he finally gets to the bottom he has a change of heart? heh...anyways.
Well that's it! Feel free to contribute with your own screen caps, and go ahead and make your own comments and such. Make it as personalized as you can because we obviously don't always see certain things the same way.
