Okay, I'm about to start my first fan-edit and I've run into a problem. I'm using Premiere Pro 7, and it doesn't handle MPEG-2. This is the first time I've had to import files other than AVI so i am somewhat stuck. What can I do? Is there a way around this? Is it possible to convert an M2v into an AVI? I imagine there must be someone who has made a fan-edit using Premiere, or at least started with a DVD source. How do you go from dvd to Premiere?
I've never used Premiere, but there have been a few discussions on here about this before. Your options are:
1. Load your M2V into VirtualDubMod/VirtualDubMPEG-2 and save out an AVI using huffyuv (lossless) compression, then edit that AVI. Need a lot of hard disk space.
2. Get AVISynth, DGMPGDec package and the AVISynth Premier plugin. Free software but some people have had problems with this method.
3. Buy the Mainconcept MPEG plugin for Premiere.
Look back through the previous threads for more info.
You could just load it into womble MPEG Video Wizard DVD and export it as an MPEG-2 Program file and then premire will also except it. But you still would have to get the Mainconcept MPEG Plugin.
