What's a good program to rip sound bytes from DVD?

You'll have to rip the audio file from the DVD (.ac3 or .wav depending on the source), then convert the file to .wav if necessary, then cut out the bits you want, then re-encode to your desired format if it isn't .wav.

My recommendation:
DVD Decrypter for ripping
Womble MPEG Video Wizard for converting .ac3 to .wav (open the file, export it, changing the audio settings to .wav format)
SoundForge or Vegas for editing and saving into whatever format.

Thanks!

So, is there any way to cut up the .ac3 file before .wav encoding? I just can't imagine how enormous a full soundtrack .wav would be.

And is there any way to grab the selection while the DVD is playing (for sight reference), or is it really just something I need to buckle down and do the way you've suggested?

I appreciate your help. Thanks again!

You could first use Chopper XP to cut a sample section out of the decrypted VOB file, then extract the AC3 from this VOB sample.

I use a program called XiliSoft DVD Audio Ripper - if it's simple enough for me to use, you know it's easy!

In either wav or mp3 format, without static?

And will that program work for other formats, like .mov, .mpg, etc.?

I always use yasa video converter to convert audio format files. It works great and much quick.

As of lately I've been using WMR Pro Recorder with good results and no more ripping
