What to do with the SE discs from the OT DVD sets...

I encourage everyone when they get their 2 disc OT DVDs complete with the special editions versions to mail the special edition discs back to Lucasfilm with a little note that reads...

"I am returning this disc to you since it is the bastard version of the original version and not needed"

What a waste.

They happen to make great ninja stars.

Well I'll be keeping mine, well why not?

Depends on how many sets of the original films I am gonna buy, I definatly want a back up set of the originals, one to watch, one to preserve. I may just replace the used ones in my 2004 set with the new ones or just leave them as they are with the original films but maybe keep them separate, I know someone that likes Hayden at the end of Jedi so I will have a set around.

So they are the exact same discs as the DVDs that are currently out there, and you can't buy the untouched trilogy on its own??
What is the point of that exactly?

Maybe they just overestimated demand and have warehouses full of the 2004 release?

After I buy the OT/SE DVD set in September, I plan an editing my own hybrid version, to try to get (what is, IMHO) the best of both worlds.

After all three are done, I plan on chucking the SE DVDs far, far away and placing my own hybrid versions in the cases in their place. It'll be the OT, and my version.

Come to think of it, I'll put them where they belong, along with the other discs I recieve but don't want: In my stack of AOL CDs that come in the mail.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

I think the best thing to do is to put Rowman's extras in their places. Either that or Deleted Magic/Building Empire/Returning to Jedi.

I really hope that they fix some of the color issues with the 2004 releases. Anybody who buys the new set will do so because of the original films, if they really wanted just the '04 films, they would have bought that "special" Limited Family edition 3 disc set released last year.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

That's probably not very far from the truth

Do you think Lucas is going for the world record of the most consecutive yearly releases of a DVD.

04 - SE 4 disc, 05 - SE 3 disc, 06 - SE/OUT, 07 - 12 disc superduper, ultra special saga aniversary edition, 08 - 30 aniversary + 1 year edition?

One thing that is going to bother me about the ones coming in September is that they are going to have an annoying "Disc 2" printed on all of them. I really wish they were just the OUT along with a special features disc. There is plenty of material they could used to at least make a bare bones supplment disc. They could use things like the old making of Star Wars with Artoo and threepio. They could load it up with old interviews with Lucas and the cast, but I don't suppose Lucas would want those released, they would merely be DVD quality evidence of how fickle he is. However I suppose they could just edit them a bit.

I'm sure they'll be below the standard I'd expect (for video at least), but it will be nice just to have them on DVD from a film source, rather than the LD bootlegs. It still remains to be seen exactly what versions we'll be getting though (lines of dialogue, opening crawls etc).

If nothing else it will allow me to redo the caps on my Star Wars articles on DVDActive. I was toying with the idea of redoing them a while ago to beter fit our new layout, but didn't bother as I only have access to quality versions of the 2004 release. With the OT coming out in September all I need to do now is find a fairly good quality release of the '97 versions to enable me to do a complete overhaul, if such a thing exists...

I'd probably throw them away, use them as fresbies, or target practice. Maybe break them as a sign of defiance, like i used to with AOL disc as a representation of my hate for them and CDs in general (I hated being forced into them in my youth, and they still scratch up too easily).

Though most likely they'll just rot in the case, info side up to forget about them. I can't see myself giving them to anyone, since that's against my stance.

I like the idea of a mass return though. Kind of like that AOL return they did a while back(assuming they followed through). Though I doubt we'd get enough peple to do it.Just imagine the impact that might have. ^_^

The mass return would be a great statement - but it would have to be mass, not just 10 - 20 of us.

He will release something like that next year or a few years from now to make us all buy them again. Just you wait and see.

Cheers. Just had a look at the site; it's a pity there are no screen caps and that the German set has the opening crawl in, well, german. Might see if I can get hold of the Dolby Surround English versions somewhere so I can redo the caps.

Exactly. I can see it happening with AOL discs, but not something people technically paid for.

3 (4?) Have joined the concept though. Hell, it'd be cool just to collect a bunch of them, and return it to Steve Sansweet at next years Wondercon. "Thanks for the original's here's a gift from all of us. Since we know how much George loves the 04 version." ^_^

I think I'll keep mine, since I paid for them. But that would be sweet.

If they are indeed the same exact discs I already paid for in 2004, THEN I might consider something like that.

hehe, can you imagine this? Someone takes out the OOT DVDs from the '06 set and puts in a second copy of each '04 disc and takes it back to the store. Say you got a set with two of the same discs instead of the OOT. They take it back and give you another set. Now you have TWO sets of the OOT, and only one of the '04 set.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.
