Any good dust, dirt and scratch removal software?

Hi,

I've found I can get pretty good results with noise removal with the noise filter in TMpegEnc but now I need to find some software that can remove/repair film damage, scratches, dirt etc...
I've uploaded a couple of shots so you can see the sort of thing I mean:

Capture1
Capture2
Capture3

Does software exist that can automatically go through and repair these things?
If not, then with some films I'd be prepared to go through frame by frame.

Any recommendations?

Cheers!

There are a couple of AviSynth filters (despot and descratch) that can automatically detect and repair this kind of defect. However the risk with any automatic process is that it will falsely identify real detail in your video as a defect and remove it, so careful tuning of the input paramenters is very important.

If you are prepared to scan and remove defects on an individual frame basis, then this is always safer.

Hi,

Of course I would prefer an automatic one, but if I have to do it manually then so be it.
Can you recommend any such?
I've never really got on with Avisynth but I suppose I could have another look at it

I can't recommend anything as I've not done this myself. There is probably a neat way to make manual corrections to individual frames in one of the popular non-linear editing packages (Vegas or Premiere).

Using freeware tools could be a little trickier, you'd probably need to make corrections in something like GIMP then insert the fixed images back into the video using the AviSynth ImageSource command. Unless anyone else knows of an easier way?
