OK so I'm a little unclear on this whole 'ignore' function that will be in the new forum software. How will it work? Will it just block PMs from a user or does it not display ANY posts from whomever you've 'ignored'? If the latter is the case won't that make the threads seem kinda wonky like people are responding to themselves? Won't ignored posts in the latter case show up when people quote them?

Tht's a possibility, but consider the other possibility: 99% of users will "ignore" one particular user, and he will soon realise that NOBODY CARES WHAT HE SAYS!

Ignored user posts don't disappear completely. A placeholder appears where the ignored user's post should be, but instead of post text, you'll see a link that says "This user is on your ignore list. Click here to view the content of this post." So it's not as if the ignored user becomes a phantom. If someone quotes a user you've ignored, you'll be able to see that text. I considered blocking that also, but it seemed extreme.

You'll have several options for controlling ignored users. Once you place a user on your ignore list, you'll be able to control exactly what they can and can't do. You can block them from seeing your profile, sending you e-mail via the contact form, and sending you private messages. You control the level to which you take the ignore function.

i donno about this whole ignore function. then again if everyone dislikes a guy and the all put him on the ignore list the guy for all intense purposes is banned.

And that's bad?

Seriously though, I don't think an ignore function will ban a person for all intents and purposes. If the ignore function is user controlled (i.e. some days you ignore someone, and other days you don't), it would only work as an effectual ban for trolls.

Another option for partial banning (besides the post limiting discussed here) would be individual forum banning - a user could be banned from certain fora to keep them spam-free but allowed to continue posting in off-topic type threads, where spammers could congregate.

Any chance of replacing the Obi-Wan Avatar with a different picture when the new software comes in? A lot of newbies choose the avatar without knowing it's connection to a certain banned member, and it prejudices my opinion of them. I'm sure they're nice people, but that avatar is like cancer to my eyes now.

That said, the new icon size restriction is 75x75 pixels, so I'll probably redo all the icons.

I think that avatar existed well before AWK. There were a few good members who had it before him. Doesn't bother me.
