Hey all,

I'm new here so maybe my question has allready been answered but here we go. I have the OT on VHS (widescreen, and full screen) I would like to get the widescreen transfered to DVD, it's in real good shape so I would like to do it soon. I'm not sure what the best way is to transfer from VHS to DVD, any sugestions?

Obi-Wan Kenobi? Obi-Wan... Now, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time... A long time.

First, Welcome to the forum!

Second - You can turn your PC into a CAPTURE DEVICE. BUT your PC/MAC will need to be up to the task so you may need the following - a free AGP or PCI slot (unless you use a USB 2.0 device), memory (at least 500mb- 1gig), 200+gigs of HD space for the AVI capture.

Third - You can buy a Set-top DVD Recorder for about $100 you can get a basic unit or for between $300-700 you can get a Recorder with a built in Hard Drive and you can also control the bitrate settings (to fit just about 2.5 hours on one DVD) - if you go the hardware route consider grabbing a Time-Base Corrector and a Video Processor (with color control is a PLUS!)

Or you can trade, PIF or make a donate to a trader here on the forums to get one of the LD or VHS transfers that have already been done

For a guide to analogue capture into a PC, see:
Doom9's analogue capture guide
Advantages of this method are:
- Some cards ignore macrovision signals
- Easy editing of raw capture
- Post-processing/filtering to make video look nicer
- VBR encoding for better results

The DVD recorder method:
- much less hassle
- requires no brainpower
- gives instant results
