AI Star Wars Fan Edit Ideas Megathread

Author
Time
 (Edited)

This thread will serve as a safe space for any AI-related ideas for Star Wars. This will prevent the standard idea and project threads from becoming bogged down in AI ethics discussions. There is only one simple rule here:

  1. Absolutely no trashing AI or discussion of anything submitted here as slop, lazy, uninspired, etc. This never leads to anything productive and is, ironically, a lazy form of engagement.

That being said, constructive criticism is welcome and encouraged. If you have an idea for how to improve upon something that was shared, by all means, go right ahead. This could be as simple as a suggestion for how to improve their output, or even better, it could be you offering your assistance in making their AI concepts a reality with human-made assets.

Let your imaginations run wild here. With AI, anything is possible.

“Artificial intelligence means it’s much easier for us to make movies. (…) If you like it, it’s good, If you don’t, it’s bad. That’s all there is to it. (…) Art is an emotional medium, whether it’s movies or plays or paintings.” -George Lucas

This is a non-generative AI solution to Luke’s death, but still uses AI tools in order to isolate Alec Guinness’ original delivery of “Let go, Luke”

Video Example
The line itself

I’ve got a bunch of generative AI lines that I’d love to see implemented into an edit of TLJ. I was originally detailing these in Poppa’s Rekindled thread, so more information can be found there. Here is a link to all of my TLJ resources.

I think the Old Ben’s line should feel more softer for the scene imo

Also with the whole AI generation, I wonder if it’s now possible to fix the whole Codebreaker/DJ plotline by making DJ have the red Plom bloom on his jacket in the jail to make it so he’s the master codebreaker they were looking for.

See, I thought the same thing. That’s why I had the generative solution at first. But I need the voice to be instantly recognizable. The same exact delivery helps people recognize it. Or else people would be wondering: “Who is speaking to Luke right now?”

Is it possible that it’s more of a volume thing? I wonder if it were quieter if that it would be better. The whole point of the line is that “letting go” is the final step in becoming a Force ghost. You have to let go of all your earthly attachments. Ben is essentially telling Luke that everything will be alright without him; his legend will make the galaxy rise up in the next movie.

Regarding DJ, I’m not sure of any tools that let you change individual elements of what’s on screen. Maybe it’s out there and I’m just not aware of it, though.

I thought Adywan had a great idea at some point in the past when he discussed his ideas for the prequels. I forgot exactly what he said, but in the Phantom Menace, the purpose of the Naboo treaty would be to extract resources that would secretly be used in the cloning process. Those resources would go through the Trade Federation to avoid directly implicating Palatine in any nefarious plot if they are caught.

This would be the way to solve a serious plot hole in that movie that does not involve speculating about Palpatine’s real motives and plans - considering he became chancellor in spite of everything he tried failing badly.

AI plus other tools used should be able to generate something along these lines. Perhaps Palpatine briefly discussing this with Nute Gunray would work?

==> Personally, I have some knowledge to produce voice lines, but any video generation or other tools would require learning from the very beginning.

I would use the tools to redo Tarkin and Leia in Rogue One and ROTS. And edit them into the movies.

What is the best Star Wars AI stuff you’ve seen? YouTube suggested a series of shorts called Beggar’s Canyon that had a bit of wonky bits—mostly awkward unnatural pauses—-but overall I was pretty impressed by the quality.

The other Star Wars AI that’s shown up in my feed has been largely unwatchable. Am I missing anything good?

I know that there are 1-2 already out there, I’d like a really good Boba Fett delivers the identity of the rebel who zapped the Death Star to Vader scene. There’s one out there that I rather like but Vader’s voice is off, I figure in a year or two someone will circle back to this.

There’s one on YT of Palpatine dissolving the Senate which I like a lot as an idea and used as a part of my proof of concept for what I call “A Rogue Hope” (Rogue One/Andor/New Hope super cut). I used the Palpy scene as a bridge between Rogue 1 and A New Hope and it work in a couple of ways, one of which is the Death Star has been tested and Palpy is very eager to start using it, adding this scene creates more of a sense of urgency that the Rebels have to cohere and start acting NOW, the choice has been made for them. Sadly the scene as it exists has what I am guessing is some sort of consequence of using AI of the vintage used to make this, there are a lot of duplicated scenes and there is attempted masking of the duplication by having some rocking back and forth in the scenes. Using the scene as is fails as it stands out too much from this effect moreso than the rest of the AI.

One thing I’d like to see is the restoration of the deleted scene where Jacasta Nu is telling Obi-Wan about Dooku’s falling out with the Jedi. Instead of the camera just awkwardly focusing on his statue head for 10 seconds there are plenty of clips on YouTube that you could keep silent as she speaks. Probably from the very beginning of the following:

Also, I’d love the AI technology to be good enough to pull off a 90-120min adaptation of “Shadows of the Empire” one day ☺️

Talking about AI, etc. - what do you think about potential fanedits of AI-generated content?
Like, you do the same that people do with movies and shows, you take a some AI fanfilms and try to improve them/blend them together to make it better?

Preferred saga:
EI (DVD version) • EII (Blu-Ray) • CW (DVD) • TCW (smudger9’s fanedit) • ROTS (Octorox’s Extended version) •RO, Solo (originals) • Andor (smudger9’s episode I and EddieDean’s ep. 3-4) • OT (2004’s DVD) • Mando (s01: smudger9’s fanedit, s02: original) • TBOBF (smudger9’s) • TFA, TLJ (originals) • TROS - HAL’s edit

I love the idea of editing the Siege of Mandalore into ROTS (partly from a personal disappointment that, contrary to pre-prequel lore, Mandalorians did NOT turn out to be the main opponents of the Jedi during the Clone Wars). I’ve seen a few decent attempts at “upgrading” animated material to live action, so while Siege of Mandalore/ROTS edits exist, this could potentially help with a more cohesive final product…

Actually I think it is just a volume thing, I played around with it on my personal edit and having the volume just a little lower than your test clip and placing the line to where the music crescendos feels more natural to me.

Also regarding with DJ, I was rewatching TLJ, and I think I figured out a way to imply DJ as the codebreaker through changing his introduction lines: the start of the jail scene where he’s in the shadow on his bed saying “umm, I can do it” could be replaced with “umm, I’m the codebreaker” which is nicely followed by Rose confused ‘what’ response.
Then instead of “Codebreaker, thief, I can do it” it would be “Codebreaker, thief, that me”. It pairs nicely with his following line “don’t let the wrapper fool you” and it can implied maybe DJ lost the red bloom as a bet or something

That’s a really good idea and sounds feasible! I’ll tackle that at some point and share the line.

Do you mind also sharing where exactly you placed the Ben Kenobi line? Like how many seconds after the twin suns shot, or any other metric you can think of.

About 2:19:47-2:19:51 theatrical cut. The gorgeous Luke looking at the sky landscape shot which pairs really nicely with Obi saying his line.

So the trouble with making him the master codebreaker is that there are a couple pieces of dialogue you have to contend with:

  1. Finn and Rose turning toward DJ and questioning if he can really do this or not.
  2. Poe asks if they found the Master Codebreaker, and Finn responds: “We found… a codebreaker.”

Also, the general vibe in their meet scene is that he’s just overheard what they’re talking about, not that he should know to expect them. My original idea was for him to say something like: “I lost my plom bloom in a bet…” But that doesn’t work unless he further reveals that he’s Maz’s contact and not that he’s an opportunist. Speaking of which, if Maz’s true contact ends up betraying them, it can make her character seem untrustworthy or foolish, which is something we want to avoid since it’s never addressed in TROS.

I think the idea is definitely possible, but I’m curious how you think the plot would benefit from it? No wrong answers, I’m genuinely curious.

The one thing I’ve always wanted to tackle with TLJ is, ironically, to make Canto Bight more relevant to the finale. I’d want to have those camera droids from the prequels broadcasting the Resistance’s final stand to the galaxy. So then you could have the people at Canto Bight betting on the outcome, thus demonstrating the exact thing Rian set up with them betting on the horse races but applied to the plot. And them all losing their money when Luke shows up and prevents the FO from winning. And you’d want to end it with a shot of broom boy and the other kids looking up at the screen in admiration. This way the broom boy finale scene doesn’t completely come out of nowhere, either. It also explains how the whole galaxy comes to know Luke’s legend; the only way it works in canon is if the FO spread the story themselves (probably Hux lol).

hmm good points. well for point 1: I think with the new context of the DJ being the Codebreaker, it makes the scene just seem like them just nervous of the plan going well.
point 2: I think this scene can be trimmed around so Finn says 'they’re so close, then cut to Finn on the Poe’s comm saying ‘we can shut the tracker down, buy us some time’

The whole Codebreaker, Canto Bight & DJ plotline is already such a headscrachter- how does Maz know the Codebreaker is gonna be at a high stake table without giving a time, is he there the whole day? why did DJ not escape his cell if he could’ve escaped at any moment, what was he waiting for? what are the odds that the jail cell Finn & Rose get thrown in has another Codebreaker who can crack First order codes even though Maz says is rare? why did Finn and Rose not try to refind the real Codebreaker when going through a rampage in the casino with the horses rather than trust a clearly shady person?
At least making DJ be the Codebreaker solves most of these issues but I do agree it makes Maz vouching for the true contact make her seem foolish/unreliable but it could be treated like an Andor kind of thing where they trust and must’ve vetted Skeen for the heist but when an opportunity arrives he acts selfish.

Any attempt to make the Canto bight plotline feel less contrived, more necessary and make Finn and Rose less dumb just helps the plotline imo

Those are some interesting points, although the movie (and the edits on this forum) answer some of those questions. Maybe they’re not good answers, but still, I like to play devil’s advocate sometimes:

  1. Assumably the Master Codebreaker was told by Maz to wait at that area in the casino indefinitely until they arrived. Which is funny considering that Finn and Rose never show lol.
  2. DJ didn’t escape because he wanted to sleep, just like he said. Pretty sure he’s homeless LOL.
  3. Rekindled and Legendary make a change that they escape Canto Bight with DJ once they see that he can casually bypass a prison door. So no horse detour and rampage in the casino. Not only is that sequence awful (they’re rich, none of these damages will hurt them), it also introduces that plot hole like you pointed out. Finn and Rose are on the run from the authorities, so they’d just be apprehended again if they tried to get back into the casino.
  4. Technically Maz says that she only knows of one option, which makes sense because she wouldn’t have a lot of shady contacts in the FO. Based on what DJ reveals, the Master Codebreaker worked for both sides, which is he was the only one she knew. But yeah, it is pretty contrived that they happen to be placed in the same cell as DJ. I dunno… the Force willed it? haha. Plus, you end up with the same contrivances if you have Finn and Rose apprehended but placed with the guy they were actually looking for in the first place.

1: that’d be a hilarious short story from his Pov
2: This would be a great line to add into the movie. I think that’s my core issue with the DJ plotline- why he waited in the cell he could’ve escaped at any moment. Anything explaining why he remained in the cell is what I think will make the plotline feel better.
3: I saw the Rekindled edit and wow yeah that change definitely fixes the feeling of why they don’t go and refind the master Codebreaker. Makes it so more plausible as they’re rushing to escape and save the fleet.
4: DJ actually says it’s the ship belongs to an arms dealers. If there was an Easter egg of it belonging to the Codebreaker I must’ve missed it but it’d also make Maz vouch seem untrustworthy XD.
I do agree on you’d run into the same kind of convenience issue but IF DJ was the actual Codebreaker, it can be set up with the alien complaining about parking- change his audio to his alien species language (from Battlefront 2- I did it for my edit) & then resub his lines to imply he and the 2 guards work for Maz/DJ or something like that.

I have several ideas about how to use AI to create Sequel fan edits. But they’re ideas that Jar Jar Bricks probably wouldn’t appreciate, so I’m not sure whether I should list them or not.

I think AI could be used to create a single, three-in-one version of the Sequel Trilogy with a coherent and linear story from beginning to end. If I were to make something like this, these are the changes I’d personally make to the narrative:

  1. I’d remove Snoke completely and establish Palpatine as the main villain from the very beginning. I’d explain that Palpatine had created several clones of himself before the events of Return of the Jedi. When Anakin threw him down the reactor shaft of the second Death Star, Palpatine transferred his Force essence into one of those clones, allowing him to survive. He would then spend years gathering the remaining Imperial forces to build a new empire, which could be called the Dark Empire or the New Sith Empire. He would already be leading this new empire when the story begins, and he’d also be the one who manipulated and corrupted Ben Solo
  2. Han and Leia could still have separated because of Ben’s fall, but I wouldn’t have Han completely return to his old life as a smuggler. I’d have him remain involved with the New Republic in some capacity. He could perhaps work as a military commander, an advisor or some other figure involved in the Republic’s efforts to deal with the remaining Imperial forces. However, I’d still keep Ben as the one who kills him.
  3. I’d completely remove the revelation that Rey is Palpatine’s granddaughter. Rey would simply be Rey, with no secret family connection to Palpatine or any other major character.
  4. Rather than having Luke go into exile out of guilt for Ben’s fall, I’d have him withdraw to meditate and ponder his mistakes. After Ben falls to the Dark Side and destroys the Jedi Temple, Luke and Ben would have a confrontation where Luke tries to turn Ben back to the light, just as he did with Anakin, but fails. Following the destruction of his New Jedi Order, Luke would go into exile on Ahch-To to reconnect with the Force, meditate and search for answers. When Rey arrives on Ahch-To, Luke would realize that she’s the answer he’s been looking for. He would decide to train her, recognizing that she might be capable of defeating Palpatine.
  5. I’d keep Luke’s final confrontation with Ben on Crait and his eventual death largely as they are. His death as depicted in The Last Jedi works very well within this version of the story.
  6. I’d make Ben’s internal conflict more visible throughout the entire story. He wants to return to the light. He knows he has done terrible things and that returning to the light is the right path, but he doubts whether he has the strength to do it. Naturally, Palpatine would try to convince Ben that he has gone too far to ever come back.
  7. I’d change the final confrontation on Exegol so that Rey and Ben face Palpatine together. Palpatine would ultimately defeat them both, leaving them unable to keep fighting. At that point, the Force ghosts of Anakin, Luke, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Qui-Gon would appear to confront Palpatine and assist Rey and Ben, with Anakin ultimately being the one who defeats Palpatine once and for all.
  8. I’d use Anakin’s defeat of Palpatine to reinforce the idea that Anakin really was the Chosen One. He defeated Palpatine in Return of the Jedi, and now, even after his death, he would be the one who finally prevents Palpatine from returning again. That would give Anakin’s story a much stronger conclusion and make his role as the Chosen One meaningful all the way to the end of the saga.
  9. After his redemption, I’d have Ben leave and go into exile. He would need time to rediscover himself and figure out who he is after everything he experienced as Kylo Ren. I’d treat this as the beginning of a personal journey for Ben, giving him time to come to terms with his past and eventually find a new purpose.
  10. I’d have Rey stay behind to begin rebuilding the Jedi Order. She would follow Luke’s example, while also learning from his mistakes. This would give Rey a clear purpose after Palpatine’s defeat and allow Luke’s legacy to continue through her.

Obviously, if something like this were ever made, the vast majority of the footage should still come from the original movies. AI should only be used selectively to generate new shots, a few short scenes and some new dialogue where necessary to fill in the narrative gaps and make this rewritten story possible.

A proper Anakin vs. Palpatine duel at the end of TROS would be very nice. Kind of want to see something going full comic book super hero style to match Palpatine being shown using force lightning on an entire fleet in the movie.

I would love to see the old MARVEL comics all get visualized as a series. I really miss these old adventures of Luke, Leia and Han between ANH/ESB and ESB/ROTJ - especially before ESB, when Luke didn’t know yet about Vader’s revelation.
