Is SVHS really worth it?

I am working on a few of my old tapes, and I just picked up a decent Hi-fi VHS deck. Would it be worth plunking down $2-300 for one of JVC's high end SHVS machines? You know, the ones with built in anti-ghosting and TBC?
What do you mean there's no ice? I gotta drink this coffee hot?!

If the tapes are VHS, you're not going to get a huge improvement in quality with a pro-deck. A TBC does help, but you have to look closely to see the improvement; it's not strikingly obvious. In theory having an s-video connection might help as well, but again you may not see any benefit.

I asked a similar question in the X0 eqivalent for VCR's thread but I guess they are deleted after a period of no activity. From what I've read, whether the vcr is s-vhs or just vhs probably won't make much of a difference by itself (for capturing vhs). Whether it has s-video connection or a tbc or basically whether it just plays tapes well is what should make more of a difference. Rowman's star wars bonus discs captured vhs using a JVC s-vhs machine.

I've used a JVC SVHS deck for years, it's great. There's not gonna be any huge quality difference, but there certainly IS a difference, and it's nice to have. I don't think they cost that much either.
