A quick update:

The deleted footage of the Lightsaber duels on the TPM documentary (found on the original DVD), is of a much lower quality, and lower bitrate, than the other deleted scenes. A friend over at the SW Trilogy Forums pointed me in the direction of some higher-quality footage, with around a 70% higher bitrate than what is on the DVD documentary.
With this higher-quality footage, I’ll now be able to do a much better upscale!

A small update:

Qui-Gon and Watto:
I have removed the second time that Qui-Gon says “Credits will do fine” along with Watto’s second “No they won’t”. It wasn’t exactly comedy gold, so there was really no need to have the lines repeated.

I borrowed an idea from DonkeyKonga, where he altered one of Mace Windu’s lines from “I do not believe the Sith could have returned…” to “The Sith could have returned…”. I did the audio differently to his edit though, in that I isolated the dialogue, and re-arranged the SFX and music.

I’m now up to the final VFX shot to finish; after that it will be on to the colour grading.

seconded, next to Ady’s work, ive been looking for prequel trilogy edits that get close to that same level of updating and make the story editing choices i prefer! getting rid of Jar Jar jumping down on theed and removing his juggling from wattos shop immediately sold me

i would like a fanedit that as Maul with Sam voice since that is his canon voice now and his voice in the movie isn´t canon anymore and includes Plagueis and a episode 3 fanedit that as padme surviving and taking baby Leia to Alderaan but instead of Luke and Leia being born at that time because the medical droids need to save the babies they are born at that time because it was time,in the canon of that fanedit they were conceived a little earlier than they were in canon and the medical droid just says she is gonna be fine and she dies from sadness between episodes 3 and 4 in the canon of that fanedit when Leia was 2 because of the state of the galaxy because her husband turn to the darkside and because she as to live a lie where her daughter is the organas daughter and because of Anakin force choking her but not because she as injuries but because of her choke of Anakin doing that to her

The last VFX shot has been completed, and colour grading is well underway. I’m currently at the 40-minute mark of the edit (in terms of colour grading). Barring any unforeseen problems, I should be able to finish the colour grading in the next day or two.

Following that, I’ll watch the video and do a Quality Control check. It won’t be long until it’s finished and released!

Some progress:
With regards to the colour grading, I’m aiming for a neutral, balanced colour grade, as well as removing the various tints applied to the Blu-ray releases as much as possible.

Thanks very much! After I posted those progress pictures, I have since gone back and attempted to remove as much of the red and blue tints in the film as possible. I’m also wanting to make sure that there is still natural warmth and colour in skin tones, plus that the environments don’t look too cold or lifeless.

From my notes, v1 (including the opening title cards before the movie) had a runtime of 01:34:54.
V2 (including opening clips prior to the movie), will be 01:34:33.

Even though the runtimes are almost identical, there are different clips used – v2 has more deleted footage (upscaled and restored), plus more trims and cuts than v1.

Hey Phase, congrats on nearing completion of the edit! Must be a good feeling after all your work on it.

One (hopefully) last update to the visual effects, prior to finishing off the edit:
On Naboo, Obi-Wan gets knocked off the walkway and his Lightsaber falls to the floor. The next time we see the Lightsaber hilt, it’s in a different position; I’ve made a small adjustment to better match how it’s seen earlier in the scene.

If you really want to go OCD with this scene, the wide shot of Obi hanging in the lower left corner of the frame before climbing up also differs from those two shots. 😉

Amazing! Are you manipulating one RGB color in the shot at a time? It would be interesting to hear about your process. I myself have been quite lazy to learn about color correction but this gets me more exited about it since I can see what can actually be done.

Anyway, count me in as interested in getting a link to the edit when you are done!
