Thanks Citizen! You know I have been dying to see your TESB set!

Your v2 sounds like it will also be VERY nice. Cannot wait to see that next year.

If someone has access to a.b.starwars, let me know and I will burn you a copy of the DL ISO so you can post it.

Just need ROTJ and I will finally have a quality version of the trilogy, thanks to Citizen!!!!

When my next batch of blanks arrive, segaflip and DarkJedi will be getting copies of all versions of ESB, beyond that I'm sorry but I can't really afford to send out dozens of discs.

I'm kinda looking forward to doing ROTJ now, I've watched ANH & ESB almost to death I think I prefer ANH & ROTJ over ESB.

Waiting for the blanks to arrive so I can clean ESB off and start ROTJ I've been experimenting with the new way of cleaning grain from captured video, along with a new filter I've discovered I'm getting some seriously good results, tested a clip of Howard the Duck laserdisc which is pretty grainy and afterwards the clip looks almost DVD quality (you can now see all the scratches & dirt of the original celluloid!), as well as testing it on some Blade Runner Criterion LD capture and that cleans up amazingly well too (puts my previous version to shame)
So now I've discovered a great filter setup I'm even more anxious to start dumping my LDs to DVD; Rad, Howard the Duck, Hamburger... The Motion Picture, & a few more bad 80's films not on DVD
(quick, someone get me the widescreen LDs of The Monster Squad and The Keep!)

Yeah I know, almost everytime I've seen people talking about their favourite of the trilogy, ESB almost always comes tops but not for me. As for the prequals, don't get me started...

My complete trilogy when complete will take up 23 single layer's! (3x XviD, 6x for the NTSC DL, 3x NTSC SL, 6x for the PAL DL, 3x PAL SL, 1x NTSC SL extras, 1x PAL SL extras) not the sort of amount of discs I can frequently give out for free, so big thanks to anyone that can PIF on my release.

If you were keeping just one archival version for yourself, Citizen, which would you keep? I'm guessing you'd hold onto the XviD version, since that's the highest resolution and the right speed, etc. All other versions could be re-made from that, I'd imagine?
Author
Time
If I could only keep one version of my trilogy then yes it'd be the XviD version because that's the version I originally set out to create so I can watch it on my projector, you can convert it to a normal DVD but I wouldn't like to try because that and the DVD versions are scaled down from an even higher sized image (an upscaled 1280x544 frame) plus the XviD whilst being high quality does have compression artefacts that might come through on the DVD.

Oh check this out, before (only scaled to anamorphic):

After (filtered & scaled):
http://www.haku.co.uk/pics/BladeRunnerAfter.jpg

Looks stunning compared to the unfiltered and my previous version I did, the above is using a DV cap of the Criterion BR LD, and that's just a single cap not the 5x (9% less noise) way I used on SW...

I received TESB DL yesterday. Nice work again Citizen! I only had a couple of minutes to look at it but it looks just as impressive as ANH.

I will go through it more tonight.

I can send someone the ISO files if you can post it in a.b.starwars.

It's a must have!

I'm willing, but I don't wanna step on segaflip's toes.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

It kills the noise, but comparing those stills it looks like you're losing detail (and contrast). Do you have a piece of video?

That's no moon. It's a LaserDisc.

Author
Time
Yes some of the finer detail is lost but you have to account for the fact that this is one of the grainiest LD's I've encountered and you can't remove this amount of grain without a little damage, a still image cannot really show the difference between unfiltered and filtered so check this out:

BR_LD_BeforeAndAfter.mpg - 19mb, mpeg2 3500kbps avg, AC3, PAL anamorphic

The difference isn't so noticable on a computer screen, to really see how well it cleaned up you have to watch it on a tv.

Citizen, just a couple of issues you should be aware of when you come to do ROTJ. The French laserdisc is missing a screenwipe from the end of side 3, so you'll need to use you German discs to fix that. It occurs just before the first scene with Wicket; however, it's nowhere near as bad as the missing section from ANH.

The other issue that caught me out was that the position of the letterboxed image takes a shift down somewhere in the middle of side 4. I'd seen a little shift before in the Ben/Canyon scene in ANH side 1, but this is quite a large jump of about 10 lines or so.

I noticed in ANH the wipe when Luke and Obi are lifting 3PO (just before Ben's house) is missing too. It caught me off guard when I first saw it in Moth3r's. Is that fixed in Citizen's?

Thanks for the heads up on framing and missing scene, Moth3r, I'm primarily using the German set for the bulk of the video and use the French set for filling in bits where the German set fails; side changes (the two sets change sides at different times), intro crawl (German set is in German) and subtitles. I haven't checked ROTJ yet for the scene you mention but I don't think I'll have a problem with it.

Dr M, the scene is intact in my ANH because the video is taken from the French and German sets, the French set is used for filling in the gaps of the German set.

Hmm... will these be posted on MySpleen in the near future? I would love a copy of the XviD's for viewing on my laptop - the quality is amazing!
"The things that stick in my mind and make me laugh were, like, memos worried about whether or not the Wookie should have pants. They're looking at this thing and saying, "Couldn't he have some lederhosen?" This is great. Of all the things to worry about, the Wookie has no pants." -Mark Hamill

Re: MySpleen. no one has offered yet, and I would really love for someone to do it as I'm really excited to get these versions!

If no one has by the time RotJ has been done by Citizen, then if I can get them all via PIF I will happily upload whatever versions I have onto MySpleen (if I can get uploader persmission)

anyone wanna do it anyway, SL DVD's of ANH and ESB (and RotJ when its done) would be magnificient!

Hey Citizen I just noticed that you sent me your ANH DL labeled ESB DL PAL, I was hoping that you could send me the actual ESB PAL DL.

I just recieved Citizen's ESB in the mail the other day, but it was only in XviD.....i'm going to use Avi2Dvd v0.4.3 Beta to convert it into a DVD-Compatible .iso,
but,

WILL THIS HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE QUALITY?

Ah nuts sorry about that, I was duplicating so many discs that day I must've duplicated the wrong ones, am burning off the proper ESB PAL DL rar discs for you right now, will post them later today.

I've started work on ROTJ after using Christmas as a break from everything SW related, plus playing on my new toy, 60gb Archos AV500 PMP (yes SW was the one of the first things I put on it) already put the entire Red Dwarf series onto it with tons of space left over
But sometimes I wonder if it's worth the bother to do & release my version of ROTJ seeing as everyone's gushing over Moth3r's version and then the subsequent Dr.M NTSC conversion...

Don't know, never tried converting the XviD to DVD! worth having a go because the audio is 256kbps mp3 and the video is larger than anamorphic 2.35:1 NTSC & PAL footage.

I was just getting ready to post to see how far along you were. I for one would like a copy of your DVD9 NTSC ROTJ. I'd like to have a complete set from one source. I chose your set cause of the reviews it was getting here. So please complete your trilogy, or I'll be lost.

Well, the general opinion (which is probably fair comment) on my ROTJ is that the audio is crap and that I should have made it as sharp as the first two (halos and all).

And I don't believe that there will be a Dr. M NTSC conversion.

So yes, it's definitely worth the bother.
