Due to overwhelming crawler/bot activity from China that ground the server to a halt, all anonymous users will be directed to the sign in form. Having an account is mandatory for browsing the forum.

We’ll lift this restriction if/when the activity dies down.

I am in favor of doing what is necessary in eliminating all the bots and spam. However, this website now does not work for me when using any chromium based browsers. I tested it on different devices with different browsers.

The site works perfectly fine when I use a Firefox fork browser perfectly fine. This is not the biggest deal in the world, but just something to be aware of. I wonder if this happened to anybody else?

I’m posting this from Chrome and have tested it in Brave as well.

What issue are you having?

I use Brave as well. I cannot understand why it would not work in mine. Here is the error message below.

ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR

Seems to be an issue with the “mobile site”. If I select “use desktop site” on my phone it works, but if I let it default to the mobile site I get the error message below:

We don’t have a “mobile site”. The site is responsive, so the same content is provided to all devices. Sounds like your device’s browser is doing something funky, like re-rendering the site as a “mobile” version, which is unnecessary.

I’m browsing in mobile Safari on my iPhone and it’s fine. Also tested Chrome.

Your solution worked perfectly. As Jay said, my devices were rendering a mobile site. A simple solution to a minor inconvenience.

I understand that there is not a mobile site. The issue is that hosting sites typically have a “mobile variant” for when the site is resized small where it automatically adjusts the sizing and font for mobile devices. It is still one site. It seems to be the issue here. In most cases it is normally a CSS or JavaScript issue. I’d say it is my device, but it appears to be happening for others too. I have no issue hitting the “use desktop site” option on mobile, just need to do more zooming in to be able to read things clearer which is tedious. Hopefully this provides some more insight.

Just to chime in with another data point. I’m having the same issue on my phone. Motorola running Android. Used to be fine before. Now I get the same error as others when I come here normally. When I force it to desktop site it works (but need to zoom in).

Not the end of the world, but strange indeed.

Thanks

It loads on iOS Safari, but fails immediately on Android Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, etc.) on both Wi-Fi and mobile data, including private mode. However, switching those Android browsers to Desktop view allows it to load. That behavior usually points to a server-side configuration issue rather than a device or browser problem.

Android Chromium browsers prefer IPv6 and stricter TLS/security paths for mobile user agents, and they don’t fall back as gracefully as Safari. When IPv6 routing, firewall rules, TLS settings, or mobile-specific handling are misconfigured, mobile Chromium requests fail at the connection stage, while Safari, or a forced desktop user agent, can still succeed.

Not sure if this is something that will be looked into, but the issue is definitely on the server side and not the client side.

There was a bad regex in the server config targeting Android user agents used by crawlers/bots. Removed it, so everything should work now.

Sorry folks!

Just created an account after weeks of being unable to lurk, for some reason unregistered users aren’t allowed to read the TOS? When I tried checking the link that’s in the sign up form, it just redirected me to the login screen.

Sorry about that. The TOS is now available to the public.

Is this why using site:originaltrilogy.com in e.g. google doesn’t return much (workaround for search getting borked a while back)?

second this. search no longer works from google because of this. is there any potential fix for trying to search through the site for information about old projects and discussions?
