Adywan has always prioritized using real models and homemade visual effects wherever possible. I don’t know why people think he will all of a sudden abandon all that for AI slop.

I never expected Adywan to abandon models and props for AI. There are some real film makers doing wonders with AI, not the people just playing around and posting on Youtube. It could be used as a handy tool for any fan film with a limited budget. You better believe the days are numbered for $200.000.000 FX movies. And Adywan did use a clip from another Star Wars fan film in SW:R. If a shot works for something there you go. The source doesn’t matter as long as it looks good. AI video will probably be 10x better in a year.

What shot is this?

One of the tie fighters blowing up during the Death Star Battle was from another fan film. If you watch it with the commentary on I believe he gives the credit.

Oh, I remember. It wasn’t the tie fighter exploding, it was the inside of the tie fighter cockpit…

One thing I wonder if anything can be done about is depth of focus on some of the model shots. Quite often very distant objects and relatively close ones have the same focal depth. One prime example being when the Tydirium is flying past the Executor bridge and the Death Star is visible. If it they were real objects being filmed the focal clarity would change and vary. In the cockpit the actors would have the most clarity, the Executor the next level and the moon and Death Star the next. For exteriors the shuttle would be the prime focus. But everything has the same depth so it looks like what it is,really nice models and a set. As revisited isn’t a preservation maybe trying to move beyond that could create a better sense of realism. Not sure if I’m making sense.

That wouldn’t be the case in space though. No atmosphere.

Unless Star Wars has an atmosphere in space, but you get my point.

I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Lenses still work largely the same in space. If you are bringing science into it inside a stellar system you wouldn’t see stars at all. It’s more about the feel of realism than true realism with Star Wars.

It’s been a while since the last update. I hope everything’s going fine.

I have a feeling Ady may be waiting to see what shakes out with this new 50th Anniversary Restoration. Harmy stopped work on Despecialized for the same reason.

Right now, we don’t even know if it will be just A New Hope, or all three, or if they’ll get physical releases on Blu-Ray.

How will this Revisited project ever get done if they keep releasing updated transfers every several years?

Why would they keep releasing transfers every several years? Also, Adywan has already finished ANH and ESB, and there is no chance he’s going back to redo those with the 50th anniversary sources whenever those come out. Perhaps he might use them for ROTJ, but that’s also unlikley as he’s already finished creating a Master hybrid for his edit using the 2011 BD and UHD.

The work Adywan has already done is so extensive. The new “ALI” masters appear to be great, but let’s be real… for the longest time the fact that it would even happen was a fever dream. The only reason this is such a hot topic for Revisited now IS because the dream became a reality.

Whatever Adywan does will look great regardless, as we all know the level of dedication and detail put into his edits.

Why would they keep releasing transfers every several years?

Because they have been. The 1997 Special Editions in theaters and on VHS, the 2004 DVDs, the 2011 Blu-Rays, the 2020 4K Blu-Rays, and likely new 4K Blu-Rays in 2027 of the original theatrical versions.

2004 & 2011 are the same transfer. The 2019 transfer was created in 2012. We’ve only had 2 transfers in the last 22 years. Thats not exactly “new transfers every several years”

its very crisp but the man has a life outside this edit and probably plans to still have life left to live after he has finished. Its not at all unsual for updates to be spars, and ist very unlikely adywan will once again restart his trilogy of projects when its about 60% complete. If theres anything to be gained by new transfers its most likely to appear in ROTJ due to the old source’s poor quality but again, he has done a lot of work on that already, so don’t expect it, not that I’ve spoken to him, but if you’ve been on this forum long enough its sentiment hasn’t changed at all.

There are other fan editors who have great VFX experience, like PixelJoker, with his upcoming Obi-Wan series movie edit, Kenobi: Trials of the Master, and M4 with his Hobbit Trilogy Book Edit. I’m just spitballing here, but maybe it would be nice if one of them could help out with Revisited while Adywan’s busy with life.

Author

I’m sure they get busy with life too. Revisited is Adywan’s baby. He’s a perfectionist that much prefers to work on the edits himself as much as possible. I’m sure that when he finds something beyond his expertise, he reaches out behind the scenes, and we’ll see credit given in his personalized credits when it’s all complete.

Delay? ESB Revisited has already been released. And it’s not just those little lines, the improvement in detail is global and defnitly noticeable…

Yeah well, I assum you’re not just talking about TESB. Why wouldn’t you want the same for ANH and ROTJ? So for Adywan to wait for this release so he can upgrade ANH and ROTJ would absolutely delay things. By years, most likely. I’ve been here since almost day one. Revisited has taken like 20 years. I think Adywan and most of us would like to see it completed in our lifetimes.

Much like video games, I think the obsession with clarity and detail quickly reaches a point of diminishing returns. I fell in love with Star Wars in the 80s watching it on VHS recorded off the TV on a 20" CRT. Anyone who is bothered by a lack of tiny lines in the background needs their head examined. I said what I said.

I never mentioned SW or Jedi… Those look fine as he’s using a combination of the 2011 AND the UHD for those. It’s ESB I commented on, which was 720p, and he had to upscale to 1080 and was released before the UHD became available… The only reason I even said anything is that I know he will never redo it.
