The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles

I’ve been considering to de-Lucas “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones” for some time now.

I have a the Japanese laserdiscs with baked in subtitles where I could
Use my off air recordings and mask out subtitles where needed.

It would be a bit of work but rewarding. I saw someone make versions on YouTube but the quality is not the greatest.

The most inferior quality/challenging part would be the bookends that only aired in foreign countries.

You have no idea how much I would appreciate just the making of from the Japanese Laserdisc in good quality.

The rip that used to be on YouTube was horrible.

I haven’t picked the set up because the price its absurd it’s not worth 500 dollars or more it is being sold for.

@JadedSkywalker I am still working on capturing all the laserdiscs. But if you like, shoot me a DM with an email address and I’ll share a google drive link of what I have as I go through it all.

@gary1 Thanks for the reply. Happy to share with you too if you want to DM me with an email address.

I’ve also heard of the bookends from overseas and I’ve always been interested that were different edits of the show.

Why did Lucas recut the show for VHS and DVD, does anyone know.

I think just as Lucas couldn’t leave Star Wars alone, he recut Young Indy to make it feel more theatrical, rather than a TV show. Some of the re-edits work but I prefer the way I saw it as a kid.

Combining two unrelated stories into one mini-movie makes the pacing feel really off for me. I also love “old Indy.” He gave the story such heart and developed Indiana Jones’ character full circle about a life well-lived. But I guess Old Indy is probably considered a little “corny”…especially by today’s standards.

I keep wondering how Young INDY fits Crystal Skull or Dial of Destiny, it’s better to not try.

I guess we should talk. I have my own project I’m ready to release, where I have almost the entire aired series personally recorded to VHS, which I’ve digitally transferred and, with editing help from deadakaalive (he did the FRIENDS HD+Extended edit), made as complete as possible. I can certainly help you know what is and isn’t supposed to be in the original Chronicles version, and you’ll have my video and audio to work with for whatever fixes you are wanting to make.

Young Indy straight up ruins Dial of Destiny, as you find that not only has he been to Tangiers as a kid (and briefly sold into slavery), but he picked up Arabic language while there, which he later mentions being his first foreign language in a foreign language battle of wits against Elizabeth Hurley… So, Indy needing Helen to translate for him in a place he’s already been just shows that the people who wrote that movie had no idea what they were doing. (Also, the diamond in Temple of Doom’s opening is supposed to be the Peacock’s Eye.)

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my VHS transfers actually look pretty good.

Hi, I am really interested in this. I remember watching the show as a kid but I cannot find the original on DVD anywhere…

The laserdisc is the original version of the show I gather?

Japanese Laserdisc is basically the original version (with some Japanese subtitles), but it doesn’t come close to covering the full run of the aired series.

Jeez, I need to get off my sorry ass and put my stuff out on myspleen and just get it over with…

Okay, if you are on myspleen, I’ve uploaded my project. At the same time, by putting that up, someone has shared with me a better copy of s02e01, so hit me up for an updated copy of that episode…

I’ve already seen it, but there is no download option unless you have youtube premium.

Simple enough on Linux with yt-dlp… There’s browser add-ons, too, but those have gotten less free over time. I can upload a rip to you, if you’d like.

Funny enough, I realized that what yt-dlp grabbed by default was just too much for what many of my computers could handle, I looked into lists of what formats it could see, and was able to make a combination that is MPEG4 AVC1 compatible, rather than a webm, av1 or VP9 combination that just might not play depending on the CPU… So, I definitely have something you may be interested in, just contact me.

Hello!
I’m German with Hungarian parents and I’m searching such old German TV-records of the “original” young Indy:
youtube.com/watch?v=MCWYADd75tM&t

The official German and Hungarian VHS tapes you could buy back then used the same edited versions as anywhere else, just with German respectively Hungarian audio. I don’t know about any Hungarian broadcasts of the “original” versions. Unfortunately the DVDs were never released anywhere else than the USA and the UK.

I’m also willing to buy 1st Generation VHS records from such German TV-broadcasts, to make my own SD PAL restoration. I can copy such tapes in almost DVD quality, depending on the condition of the tapes. I would use those transferes and mix them with scenes from the offical UK DVDs (I would adjust them to fit to the original TV-version) and a digital record of some French broadcasts you can find here and there.

I don’t know about any of that, but you HAVE provided an interesting source of an episode I’ve tried reconstructing to various degrees of success… Anyway, if you have access to the site myspleen, you’ll find my complete series upload, from the American broadcast (good news to most, but you’re obviously after German/Hungarian…) Anyway, please use that as a source for whatever you want to make…

Unfortunately I don’t have any German or Hungary young Indy stuff besides 2 official German VHS. You just rarely find such German TV-records on Youtube or other places online. Don’t you know where to find the best possible peresrvations of those mentioned French digital broadcasts? I don’t remember if they were SDTV or already blown up to HDTV. Earlier I had some episodes from that French version, but lost them on an old HDD.

If you are interested, I have 4 “Movies” from season 3 in an old German localised version from the official Paramount+ channel through German Amazon Prime. “Young Indiana Jones And The Hollywood Follies”, “Young Indiana Jones And The Treasure Of The Peacock’s Eye”, “Young Indiana Jones And The Attack Of The Hawkmen” and “Young Indiana Jones And The Travels With Father”. I think they use the same German masters as for the official VHS, just in digital PAL DVD quality.

I’m a member on MySpleen, but I never uploaded anything, because I don’t know how to create own torrents.

I don’t remember the movie versions except for Treasure of the Peacock’s Eye. and Trenches of Hell. I have Peacock’s Eye tape only. None of the others. I also don’t have the DVD. Because I was waiting for a blu-ray that never materialized.
