Sounds awesome! I’m excited to give it a watch.
I was able to do a little bit of work on this tonight. I have a few AI Anakin lines to help with our 3PO retcon, but the setting of the Skywalker hovel does not at all lend itself to dialogue replacement.
The lines to mute would be, “Isn’t he great? He’s not finished yet.”
The replacement lines would be, “I’m fixing him up. He’s way better now!”
Not essential, as it works fine to simply skip over those lines.
Courtesy of Jar Jar Bricks, of course.
Edit: Disregard; came back later and absolutely nailed it.
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.
For those who haven’t seen it:

I looked into using the original footage, but restoring the Jedi – as in, changing them from invisible / partially invisible in a few frames to fully visible throughout, then adjusting the speed for a “normal” running speed.
There isn’t enough visual information in either the 35mm scan or the Blu-ray for the rotoscoping to work unfortunately.
Does anyone know of any good behind-the-scenes footage or photographs for this scene which show them running?
If so, I could rotoscope the footage, create a new composition with a corrected running speed, and share it with Hal9000 and any others who may want to use it.

I think the AI lines for COD/TPM are gonna be pretty darn seamless, so a big thank you to Jar Jar Bricks for providing those.
I was able to use the ‘Ultimate Edition’ TPM soundtrack (thank God) to rebuild the audio when Anakin introduces C-3PO along with some blanket foley sounds. I may use one other line if it sounds as good in context as I hope it will. And 3PO’s lines to R2 right before the podrace sequence that are already AI-generated in the current version will be updated to sound quite a bit better. I don’t think any viewer would suspect a thing. Net effect: 3PO is clearly depicted as having a nebulous backstory prior to Anakin finding and repairing him. And I think that’s pretty cool.
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

Watching through right now, and was wondering what you’d think of repurposing the Podrace announcer saying “It’s Skywalker!” From the ramp flight to right before/as he crosses the finish line. I always found their silence strange in that moment.
Preferred Saga:
1,2: Numeraljoker extended
3: L8wrtr
4,6-9: Hal9000
5: Adywan
It’s not a bad idea, except that I’ve already got the V9 update finished and have been encoding the mp4 versions.
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.
COD V9 is going up right now! I’ll work on the ‘Max’ version to get that done soon as well.

Sweet! What is in the V9 changelist and the max one?

Nice! Also looks like you removed the “force speed” moment too. Great changes!

Forgot to mention it, but yes!
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.
So does that include the midichlorians explanation scene on Coruscant or just the blood test? Because I feel like the concept of midichlorians is quite self explanatory without going into the whole “symbionts” weirdness way later on in the movie.
But yeah either way these changes look epic. Thanks Hal. Excited to watch this weekend.
Qui-Gon tells Anakin to “take off” now. I don’t want to come off as nitpicking, but it’s just some things I’ve noticed reinstated.
The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.
That was reinstated at some point earlier, not for V9. I don’t recall exactly.
And yes, the midchlorian explanation is there for the Max version. If midichlorians are to be included, they’ve got to be established as symbionts in order to dovetail with the Gungan-Naboo aspect to form a theme.

That’s fair. I like Qui-Gon in that scene but it’s definitely one of little Ani’s worst is all lol.
I ended with half a day of unexpected downtime, so I got almost everything done for the Max version. The large 1080p version is up now, and the smaller versions will be coming likely tomorrow. OP has been updated with changelog.

I like the skip over the force speed piece. I remember thinking it was a glitch when it first hit theaters.
Watched the Max edition - well executed. Though I still think the film works better without the underwater trip.
I’ll probably just splice The Phantom Menace crawl onto COD and call it good for anyone I’m going to marathon with.

Thanks, glad you like it! And yeah, I obviously also prefer it without Otah Gunga. If the splice job will help friends get over the hump of accepting the title change, sounds like a win.

Remind me, is it the whole underwater sequence that’s included, or do they just get the ride and then we cut back to Theed?

They arrive, talk to Boss Nass, get their ride, deal with bigger fish, and then end up at Theed.

There are nips and tucks about the sequence; it was not just plugged in as a whole. A few Jar Jar moments are trimmed throughout. He leads them underwater, gets arrested immediately, talks with Boss Nass but without explicit mention of the planet core, and they leave with Jar Jar. We get a trimmed version of the first bongo sequence, then cut to Theed being invaded and the Jedi surfacing. We cut the scene where the Viceroy discusses the treaty while they walk down the stairs.
And if it’s any consolation, this ‘Max’ version of the movie dispenses with the scene where Jar Jar talks to Padme while she is cleaning R2. Because it isn’t needed in the same way it is for COD.
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.
Honestly, that sounds great to me! If it was the whole sequence I would definitely question its inclusion. But the underwater city itself looks so cool that I think it’s worth the slight hit to the pacing. Also makes the Gungan army a bit less of a Deus Ex Machina at the end.
