The XO project is just another laser transfer, it doesn't compare to 2004 DVD quality. Nothing does, actually .... I've learned that the hard way, you can't match it on home equipment. Gotta just use what Lucas gave.

That is why i like yours(ocpmovie) and ADM's edits,my thoughts exactly, the 2004 DVD's are in EXCELLENT quality, cant be matched by any LD player, or post processing and and encoding,we just dont and will not get ALL that fancy equipment and resources GL has.
just my thoughts

The laserdiscs are a joke by comparison. They were nice when VHS was nice, though.

yes i agree with you but since i capture LD's, it is still nice to have them preserved and on dvd.

OCP, your work is beautiful. Compaired to the LaserDiscs the work you've done is 100x better.

And I LOVE the idea of getting to choose our own DVD disk label. That is an awesome idea. *thumbs up*

I can get whatever you want on Myspleen. I'd prefer a dual layer copy, honestly. Let people shrink it if they like but at least give them the option of something bigger. Just send me the stuff on two discs and i'll combine into one file.
I can also get Return Of The Ewok up there.

Hi Guys!

I am VERY new here and have been getting excited about the prospects of eventually doing my own fan edit, but in the meantime, I have downloaded Star Wars Classic Edition from myspleen, and I am just absolutely blown away! It's exactly as if Lucas remastered the ORIGINAL film! Thanks Ocpmovie! You are performing a greatly appreciated service to all of us who want DVD quality versions of our beloved Original films!

Since I am new, I don't have anything to trade and wouldn't want to assume that I would be able to get in on getting either this release or Empire, but would love to be able toget in on this. I'll do anything that is necessary (short of actually paying someone...)

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it and would be in your debt! THANKS EVERYONE! and thanks OCP!

Just one thought here guys: DL discs, apart from their expence, have other disadvantages too.
The most important is compatibility:
I have tried at least 10 times to burn DL discs, using 4 different brands. Outcome:
the DL discs are only readable using the burner that wrote it. That aplies for all brands. All other pc drives refuse to read them. They play fine in my Pioneer DVD player, but on two other deck players I tried, only the first layer was playable, afterwards the player froze.
In two cases (different brands), the layers got seperated when I accidentaly hit them (that will hapen in post office, trust me) and then they were unplayable.

If you try to burn your own DL dvd, you don't have to worry about layer break, Nero, alcohol, DVDdecrypter and Elby clone DVD put it automatically if you choose not to specify it manually.
But even if (for a reason I can't understand) the layer break is placed in wrong position, the only disadvantage will be a 1 second still image at the half of the movie, ie no big deal.

there is no technical knowledge required to burn a DL disc. You just copy-paste the files contained in the two discs in one folder, and then burn them contained in a folder named VIDEO_TS.
That's all.

So, my point is: Leave the guy alone here, and settle with the two SL discs to avoid more trouble afterwards (I'd hate to have him send me a DL disc -which after all takes ages to be written in comparisson to 2 SL discs- and then ask him to re-send me the discs cause the one I got was not compatible).
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

And as someone who has used DL discs for a year or two now, I've never had the massive problems noted above.

Compatibility, yes. That's a problem. But they've played in every drive I've used them in. They work in 1 of my 2 players.

And I've only had one complaint from the people I've sent them to.

So YMMV. But like i said...send me 2 discs and I'll put them together and seed it.

Hmm...if there is any chance that a DL disk will screw up I better not get that. My cheap player probably couldn't play it anyway. Switching the disks shouldn't be that big of a deal for me. I can get my lazy ass out of my chair and change the disk. Hell, that's the way I grew up with the LaserDiscs, and then I had to switch them twice!

I don't know. It seems that nowadays, it is the cheap DVD players that are the best.

Hey ocp - you have a pm with regards to this as well as ESB.

ocpmovie, I was trying to make sense of something you mentioned in another thread:

[Moth3r's laserdisc transfer] and also the TB and Gkar Special Editions, runs faster than the film is supposed to, which caused me problems making my Classic Editions. Since Jedi uses your transfer and the TB set so heavily, I should have done more than I did to make them 24 fps compliant, ...
I don't understand why this is a problem? The PAL and NTSC versions contain exactly the same frames of film, it's only the speed on playback that's different.

Thanks! ocpmovie for making a classic return of the jedi. This was my favorite as a kid so thumbs up on your version, hell in fact when i get this I'll show all three classic versions to my nephew instead of the tird 2004 release.

Has he ever seen any of the Star Wars films? If not, show him all six in order. It would be interesting to see what his reaction is.

Ok, Metallaxis convinced me to try to put the DL together myself. Citizen has made it sound like a major technicial feat to get it right.

I really hate the idea that OCPMovie can hardly break even after all the work he does.
Btw, thanks TR47 for the link to the cheap DL's I'll definitely have to pick some up.

Quick info before you make a wrong decision:
If you decide to get the DL disc as two SL discs, then changing discs in your player won't work. For the movie to play, all the files must be on the same disc, so you either make yourself a DL disc using the files from the 2 SL discs you get, or ask someone to send you an already made DL disc, or simply get the SL version of the movie.

I edit in 24 FPS mode, and Final Cut Pro had real trouble reading all the frames in the 25 FPS version. It would always ignore the 25th frame no matter what I did. Hm. I'll probably fix this before burning the final problem in some fashion, but it was definitely an annoyance.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. I thought that OCP was going to give us two normal disks because the movie wouldn't fit on one disk. So somewhere in the middle of the movie the film will end and I'll have to put in the second disk and resume watching the film, just like I do with my father's laserdiscs.

I don't have any equipment to change anything I get from OCP so what I get is what I get. It has to be ready to play in some format before I get it, because once it gets to me - it's stuck in whatever format it came in.

Jenny, the single layer version will be fine for you, as will the dual layer version (on one disc).

Ocpmovie,

I don't post often. I lurk and learn alot. But your Classic Edition of Star Wars was so great that I just had to say THANK YOU! This has been a great few months for lovers of the OT. First, there was the increased video quality of Moth3r's PAL versions. And now yours to surpass those. Count me in. I would like both SL and DL versions. Can we get both on MySpleen?

Also, if you need some bucks, I'll be glad to contribute.

Also thanks from me OCP.

I'm from Germany and me and some friends looked at your amazing work done with Episode IV and V.

I hope to see the DL Version of my favorite Episode VI in the USENET or even in Bittorrent

Hope someone can upload this movie in A.B.Starwars.

And a little offtopic:

Looking for the Ewoks Release from you, any chance to get It on Usenet the next time??

Thanks OCP and all the others for this great work you done here.
