Kenobi: Trials Of The Master - Fanedit by PixelJoker95 — Page 6

Yeah, Star Wars is broken beyond repair. If nothing else, Acolyte has shown me this.

How people can say that this episode destroyed the canon and at the same time praise Obi Wan is beyond me. My best guess is that they only want to watch flashy images that seem familiar without thinking about it.

Then there is the corner thet gets upset if there are not enough white Cis males in the material… There has been so much wrong with these productions… If this is your leading argument all the time… thats really telling.

And then theres the corner that just praises everything… Which kinda feels like a cult looking at it from the outside…

I mean, I genuinely enjoyed the first two episodes of The Acolyte. And I really don’t have too much of an issue with these witches having a different understanding of the Force. The problem is the whole implication that

Anakin was conceived by the same method shown in this episode. If they debunk this later on somehow, then cool, but I have a feeling they won’t.

I mean, I’d say it does line up pretty well with those ideas. The only way in which it doesn’t exactly is the fact that whoever does such a ritual is clearly genetically related to the offspring. So that would make Anakin Palpatine’s son in this chain of events.

The Kenobi series has a lot of good stuff. Ewan back playing depressed Obi-Wan, snarky child Leia, Vader badassery, and the epic final duel. It’s only brought down by some questionable moments and repetitiveness in the story that makes it feel stretched out, so it’s prime material for a condensed fan edit.

I think this show has next to nothing worth salvaging. But I’m just interested in seeing some of the new material he created for it. Like Obi-Wan discovering Anakin is alive while at the cantina, just the way it was in the far, far, superior Kenobi novel.

Some of these scenes could make for an awesome extended ending to Revenge of the Sith, which is probably something I’ll throw together for myself after PixelJoker finishes his edit.

March 9th: "I’m not giving regular updates because I’m at the point where I’d like to wrap things up and prepare for the next stage. So, all I’m doing now is dialogue removal (a.k.a., making the actors not talk to match the cuts better), creating alternative shots and reactions, and removing blinking in case of reversed shots. It doesn’t seem too bombastic, but there are almost a hundred of these shots throughout the film. I’m just more focused on actually working on the film than announcing anything or engaging in discourse online.

I wish I were a millionaire with an unlimited budget and time to work on TOTM only, but the reality is far different. I’m one of the VFX artists who unfortunately lost their job due to recent strikes, so I have to take on a side project now and then just to survive and take care of my family." (a post on YouTube)

May 12th: Someone asked if the project was canceled in a YouTube comment, “No, no worries of that. I’m just quiet while working on the final VFX shots.”

June 8th: Someone asked on a YouTube comment, “Is this thing dead?” Pixel answered, “No!”

It’s not out yet.

Does anyone have a link to pixel’s discord server for this project? I keep reading he tends to post updates there the most. DM please if it’s not permitted to post such things in the comments. Thanks ❤️

Every time I see this thread get upped a small part of me gets super excited as though “IT’s FINALLY OUT!!!”

But nope, no updates on any of his socials in a while I believe. A comment (maybe on reddit?) that he’s still working on it from a few months ago.

He seems like a good-faith fan editor, and he’s been pretty honest about his progress & delays. I’d bet, at this point, that he’s just planning on waiting a few months for holiday season. Until another update, I’m crossing my fingers for sometime in December.

My thought is… now that the 4K is out he is replacing his downloaded Disney+ footage and replacing it with source quality. That’ll likely take some time to complete…

Interesting thought. Seems like something he’d want to do. Not sure why he wouldn’t announce that though unless he’s afraid it’ll provoke complaints at the added delay. I think just as likely he’s just too busy to complete the project with life and paid work at the moment.

It’ll be out before The Winds of Winter, that much I will guarantee… 😏

This whole white cis male rhetoric is one of the problems when analyzing a piece of media or a grievous. It is a little deeper than that, I think.

I’m alive! And so is this project!

I’m editing a Christmas project update video- it was supposed to be out on 25th, but due to circumstances (I’m in charge of the family dinner menu), it will be out sometimes before New Year’s eve.

In the meantime, enjoy those stills. And I’ll explain why I was mostly offline as well.

Merry Christmas everyone, and may the Force be with you all!

I check in on this once a week, and it looks like we have some unfortunate news from PixelJoker95’s YouTube Channel. He wrote:

I usually refrain from posting bad news, but it’s really a terrible time for me right now.

I was in the middle of recording a tutorial for a new-ish type of VFX I’m doing for TOTM when the rack that holds my hard drives fell to the floor, along with the drives, of course.

Out of 8 HDDs, 2 of the most important ones no longer work—the one with all my personal data (including all of the family photos and early works), and the one with half of the TOTM reshoots, sounds, and source footage.

Luckily, the disk with the Premiere and Nuke project files survived, so in theory, I can re-link everything if I manage to recover any data from the failed drives.

Overall, the last few weeks haven’t been great, to be honest, and this seems to be the culmination…

I’ll see what kind of work I can still do so I don’t waste my time waiting for a solution, but good old Murphy sure is trying to make it difficult for me…

ANDOR REMAINS BRILLIANT. One way out: Stick to Andor.

For seventeen years the renegade Pfhor scoutship jumped between the closely packed stars of the galactic core. And all over the ship, dancing through the wreckage of the Pfhor computer core, Durandal was laughing…

Andor is a show that’s just a little bit embarrassed to be a Star Wars show, and wants to distance itself from as many of the fantastical elements present in the franchise as possible, like the aliens. It’s a show that wants to be “taken seriously”, an “adult series”, which is a little ridiculous. If someone wants to be distracted by a sci-fi series, Andor might be a good alternative, but it definitely doesn’t feel like a Star Wars series.

Andor is a well-made show, but what it misses is the mythic, pulpy quality of Star Wars.
You wouldn’t make an adaptation of a Greek myth without any of the Gods, or an episode of The Twilight Zone with no sci-fi/supernatural elements (yes, the first episode still counts. At the time it was made, traveling to the moon was science-fiction; it premiered 10 years before the moon landing).

Even Mando S1 and some of S2 captured this pretty well, having that mythic old western feel (tho I despise how it’s now become a vessel for this new “Filoni-verse” and is now shot like a car commercial).

Another update post from his youtube channel confirms that “IT WORKS! At least the most important TOTM drive does. So, as far as TOTM is concerned, I can move forward with the project as if nothing happened.”

I very much disagree. The Original Trilogy captured various moods, from Samurai duels and clashes of mythical heroes (Obi-Wan, Luke, Vader, etc), over pedestrian fish-out-of-water situations (with the droids), up to full on WW2 stories in both tension-filled ports (Casabl–, I mean Cloud City) as well as battlefields (Hoth especially) or dangerous operations behind enemy lines undertaken by agents (Endor).

Similar to the old expanded universe, like the X-Wing Books, it is absolutely fine focusing on some aspects over the others, as various of the newer Star Wars media have done as well. Andor focuses on the WW2 stuff.

Anyway, derailed this thread enough.
