MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.
So tomorrow is Christmas Day and it’s time for the annual Christmas clip.
Sorry that, yet again, there has been such a long time between updates. The run up to Christmas is always pretty hectic for me, plus plans for ROTJ:R have changed somewhat and a lot of things to work out due to this, but i’ll go through all of that in the next update . I wanted to get the Christmas clip out of the way first.
Which leads me into this new clip. For ages it bugged me with the continuity problems during the Chasm sequence. The number of stormtroopers in the doorway above, firing at Luke and Leia kept changing shot for shot. You also see a dead trooper lying on the floor one shot, then gone the next, before one was even shot. Then you have a wide shot that you can clearly see Luke unravelling the grappling hook, before he even thought of the idea. Sadly i just couldn’t fix this originally as simple editing could not fix the problem. But a couple of months ago i worked out how i could do it, so i have been flat out working on that to get it ready for Christmas. So the errors in that scene have now been fixed for the HD version.
Now, as usual, the audio in this clip is just a temporary track, so you’ll see that effects are out of sync in the re-edited parts, and it is not the audio track that will be used in the final version.
In all likelihood i will make the very long post about the revised plans for ROTJ and what you can expect in 2025 just after Christmas, or the first few days into the New Year at the latest. There’s a lot to go through 😉
And thank you to everyone that have enquiring about my health. I’m doing good, and recovering well.

It’s great to hear that you’re doing well, as-well as seeing the progress on ANH:R HD. I did have a small question though. It was mentioned before that ANH:R and ROTJ:R will be finished in native 1080p, but has there been any use of AI-processing/upscaling?
I’ve become more against the use of AI-processing/upscaling in film preservation/restoration for a while now.

I don’t see that error in the comparison video. Where is that wide shot?
Edit: Oh, never mind. It’s at 1:38. Clever editing. You took that shot and placed it 24 seconds later.

Hey Ady! Glad to hear you are on the mend!
Have you ever considered restoring the Han versus the Stormtroopers with the original 1977 version?
Part of the comedic charm of the original version is the Stormtroopers realizing “Hey… we out number him! Why are we running?”
But then in the 1997 and onward edits, they just bait him into running towards a big room filled with more goons. In my opinion, it loses a bit of the humor that the original had.

The theatrical version makes more sense. The stormtroopers are only pretending to try and capture the heroes, and are trying to convince them they escaped based on their own skills. To lead him to an entire barrack would leave Han wondering why the entire garrison didn’t follow him.

This, and also looks nothing like the death star hangar. also, why would stormtroopers just be standing im formation like that?

Here is a quick mockup I put together. If Ady wants to do something like this I think it would look a lot better, but it is his edit and choice though!

Howdy, Adywan! I’m glad to hear your health has improved and it’s fantastic to see the new edits. I guess I’ll never unsee the continuity errors in the original edit now.
As for the hallway shot, I don’t mind either the recomposite you did or reverting to the OOT shot. 4K77 might patch it well, with added shadow detail from the 4K78 print (a low-contrast color reversal internegative) and the blus for the stormtroopers and Han.
