Something to throw out there.
Here is screenshots from the UHD 4k release and the Central-Eastern European standard BD.
As I mention in the first post, Aladdin had enhancements/reanimation done for an IMAX release that never happened. I THOUGHT there was no digital release of the original master, but now I’m wondering:

What do you mean by the original master exactly? Is there any differences I’m supposed to notice outside of the colors and aspect ratio, just curious?
I wanted to buy the original 35mm lpp prints of Oliver and company and great mouse detective please. I need them to scan and digitize sections of the lpp to post them online like the original opening and closing logos available available on home video or streaming.
Also, here are some Disney films I found on a 35mm forum I frequent - let me know if anyone is interested in these and I’ll see if they are still available.

I wanted to buy the original theatrical 35mm lpp prints of oliver and company and great mouse detective.
Recently someone online has recently managed to post the original logo from a rare France vhs copy of oliver and company that might come from a 1988 US theatrical print or 1989 France theatrical print. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XMwyVDFlBQ
Doctor M, your hypothesis about “thinned” lines not being some kind of digital artifact is interesting.
I can’t find the site/forum, but I remember someone complaining that there was DVNR artifacting in the Vista Series DVD of Roger Rabbit. The lines indeed look thin and wispy, but the Blu-ray and the French HDTV broadcast seem to have the same line characteristics.
I’m betting that RR had hair-thin inking to begin with, so the characters would better blend into the live action - the cels I’ve seen seem to bear that out.
Also, does anybody else think the “Mystery in the Mist” transfer of The Great Mouse Detective looks a tad TOO warm? I won’t argue that it’s a better transfer than the old DVD, but there’s an original 35mm print from 1986 on eBay, and the blues actually look blue. (Or is that just due to the white balance on the digital camera capturing the projection?)
Why hasn’t anyone scanned and digitize the original 1986 35mm theatrical print of great mouse detective and never uploaded it on the internet at all ?
Which pages in this thread breakdown the bonus features? I’m also interested in those, too. Especially if certain disc releases had a bonus feature which wasn’t carried over to other releases later on down the line, as the first post explains. i.e. the different editions. More for the Disney animated Golden Age aka Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, etc. DVDCompare.net is helpful but it might take too long to figure out the differences.
Thanks!

Sure, you’d expect some cropping. But my point is that the anamorphic and wide releases of Jungle Book actually have more left/right information than the 4x3 releases.
If the 4x3 version is all the animation fit to be seen, the widescreen should ONLY be less on the top and bottom.
Not necessarily. If you are framing at a particular AR, if you show more on the sides then you have to show more on the top and bottom. So a 4x3 transfer were to show as much on the sides as the widescreen ones, it would necessitate opening up the image that much more on the top and bottom, potentially revealing stuff we weren’t intended to see (refer to the misframed Fox and the Hound Blu-ray screenshot, and the Great Mouse Detective framegrab from that recent 35mm auction).
And remember that in general, one framing has to be chosen for the entire transfer, or at least each reel, so if they are paying attention to the cel cutoffs and such, they would pick a framing that hides them in every shot. If one shot has an abrupt cel end at a certain frame height, the entire transfer has to be framed to cut off before that height, and so an equal amount of picture has to be sacrificed on the sides.
On the other hand, since a widescreen transfer mattes more on the top and bottom, they can afford to show more on the sides without revealing frame cheats on the top or bottom. This is all ideal circumstances, of course - if the technicians frame it too tight, we can get something like the 2002 Great Mouse Detective transfer where its 1.66:1 ratio cropped more on the sides than it opened up on the top and bottom.
We’ve seen plenty of transfers which are the “correct” AR but still a bit too tight (the Blu-ray of Alien, every transfer of Jurassic Park in the last 10+ years). And we’ve seen ones which are not properly centered as well (that Fox and the Hound Blu-ray, the original pressings of the Back to the Future Part II DVD where the entire transfer was framed too high). Transfer framing seems to be more of an art than a science.
A transfer showing all possible information without ever showing any of the garbage on the edges in any scene wouldn’t necessarily be 4x3. It would probably end up being some oddball ratio (since there is usually more “garbage” on the top and bottom than on the sides). And if each individual shot were framed to show the maximum information without revealing flaws and cheats, the ratio would likely change from scene to scene.

-The Sleeping Beauty and Bambi Blurays look better than the LDs
-The CAPs films look so much different on LD than Bluray in terms of colors and shading, I much prefer the LD look
-The Junglebook and Sword In The Stone are some of the worst looking Blurays, the LDs are quite a revelation
-Mary Poppins (Archive Collection) LD looks a million times better than the Bluray, it’s amazing how badly botched that Bluray is (the Bluray is dark and overly contrasty at the same time, and the scenes that use projection look way more fake due to this)
-1987 Pinocchio CAV is really bad looking and washed out, will have to capture the CAV Box Set instead

which private trackers can be find them for those releases?
For Cinderella and Snow White, my highest recommendations are easily the Thunderbean scans. Both are much more vibrant and colorful than the 4K travesties, bar none.
Here are some screenshots from both.
The new Cinderella master is missing the original mono mix and has heavily modified color timing while Snow White is a disaster all-around. Both of them, and especially Snow White in particular, feels like they took the Diamond Edition, upscaled it, changed the color timing in a video editor, applied a grain filter, and called it a day. They look like shit. The Laserdiscs look better as official releases go and at least those box sets have the original mono mixes and has many bonus features you will never get on Blu-ray. 😉
