For what it’s worth people are illegally selling 4K versions of those fanedits/preservations, I would just as soon go into a store or online and legally purchase HDR and 4K copies from Lucasfilm. These sellers make thousands of dollars quite rapidly and once one site closes down or some site they are on kicks them off they just reappear.

I would like to own copies I didn’t download or burn myself, which I can’t do for 4K and I can only do 1080P and stream it off my external or watch it from there. because I don’t have a disk drive.

These people have been making quite likely into the hundreds of thousands off of fan projects, there is a market for legitimate releases, but Disney has to be not stupid.

But they are anti-consumer and anti-fan by putting everything into their streaming model so what the hell do I know.

I thought with the release of Cinderella and Snow White in 4K, and Andor and Obi-Wan they had changed their tune, maybe I was wrong.

I disagree. In my opinion, a lot of people try not to write on the other sections of the forum precisely because they don’t want to be bullied by the guy and surrounded by all the sock accounts. For example, I’m in contact with one of the members of the forum (whose name I’ll not reveal), who openly confessed to me that he doesn’t write here anymore because he doesn’t want to be involved with the guy. Once you remove the guy from the equation, a lot of people might want to return to write on the other sections of the forum too.

That’s exactly what would probably happen, once the hijack has finally been stopped. It’d be nice if the moderators were not so absentee on the boards.

They probably don’t give a damn about Star Wars anymore either. Who can blame them?

Eh, they still have a forum to run, whether they care about the current productions or not. It’s not like people are absent outside of the sock hive mind. Even if it’s stuff I vehemently disagree with, it’s still discussion.

As for unpopular expanded universe opinions, Xanatos might be my favorite “dark Jedi,” especially since he demonstrated that Anakin probably wouldn’t have been better with Qui-Gon as a mentor.

I have no idea what’s going on.

Out of curiosity, how do you all know there are multiple sock puppet accounts posting here? I mean, the person accused of using sock puppet accounts is someone that has created some genuinely interesting, well researched, high-quality threads. I agree their recent post attacking Spartacus01 is just… bizarre - not quite sure what to make of that.

Anyway, I’m just curious what the evidence is, and the history behind all this, since this seems to be a well known thing around here.

I guess these days with cheap VPNs everywhere it’s pretty hard to prove sockpuppetry, which is probably why the forum moderators don’t do anything. You’d really have to use probabilistic methods and compute some metric like variation of information to compare posts from different accounts to find similarities in writing style. But this requires a decent sample size for accuracy and the forum moderators likely don’t have the time for something like that.

Stardust1138 was a bit of a windbag and didn’t believe in economy of words, as well as having questionable taste in Star Wars video essays (nothing Fandom Menace-y, just very much against the grain here).

However, they were very much pressured out by both the sock hive mind and others. That’s not the right way to handle things on a forum, as Stardust wasn’t breaking any rules or being exceptionally awful to people.

Hell, I remember when oojason (when he was a mod) banned Chainsawash for criticizing this site and its management on the 4Kxx boards. That’s a dick move if ever there was one.

Exactly, that’s why I brought his name up and emphasized his pettiness.

I just want to pop in say hi and express my support for Spartacus standing up to this. I want you all to know that I’d love to come back and post here regularly, but I also can’t bring myself to play along with the whole sock account charade, which has become harder and harder to ignore as more people have left the site, many of them probably for the same reason I did.

As for EU unpopular opinions, I don’t mind the idea of Palpatine preparing for the Vong invasion, in theory. Of course, if he really did know it was coming, he definitely wouldn’t have kept it a secret. He’d have used the Vong as a convenient external threat to justify more executive powers and military buildup. But I don’t agree with the idea that it paints Palpatine as a good guy. It just makes him a rival of another villain, but no less a villain himself.

I do, however, dislike how much Thrawn was made out to actually be a good guy. As the EU went on, Timothy Zahn seemed to whitewash his actions more and more, like making it so that he destroyed Outbound Flight in self defense rather than just destroying it on Palpatine’s orders. I don’t mind the idea that he was really playing some sort of galactic long game the whole time, but at the end of the day, he’s still a ruthless dictator. I don’t know. It’s a tricky balance to strike. I like the Empire of the Hand as a concept, but they almost seem too moral.

Get the mods involved I have no way to prove who and who isn’t a sock I have to use best judgment and treat people equally.

As to Thrawn being a good guy or it hinted that he was i never liked that aspect of the Duology or the other later Thrawn books which I need to reread Outbound Flight and Survivor’s Quest.

The idea that the Empire were the good guys because they kept order to prevent an alien Invasion from outside the galaxy because Democracy is messy, totally hate that.

It’s a similar issue to when wrestling villains get super-popular and the promoter has to turn said wrestler into a good guy. It doesn’t always work and it barely works with Thrawn. He’s a plenty nuanced and compelling character without the whitewashing.

I actually like Matt Lanter Anakin more than Hayden, but I appreciate what Hayden did on the Disney shows.

I do like the Republic Comics those were before Filoni Wars. I also much prefer Ventress in the EU over Filoni, and I like the Micro Series and the Obsession comic. I liked the Battle of Jabiim and how it tied into Luke’s story later in the other comics. I like the character of Asharad Hett who went on to become Darth Drayt, I liked the Aurra Sing books. Those are all non canon to Disney Star Wars.

You want an unpopular opinion I hated Dark Disciple and how it comes off like a YA romance novel. I actually like Son of Dathmomir even if most of the retcons Filoni made to Maul’s backstory i dislike.

I may have disliked the Legacy books but I liked the Legacy comics the first one with Cade, though Legacy II was kind of meh, though a Solo without force powers has some merit.

And yes, I know that being in line with the Prequel films is not considered a compliment around here, but I like the Prequels and I like consistency, so to me it is a compliment.

This is why, despite Matt Lanter giving overall better performances, I have a soft spot for Matt Lucas as Anakin. He actually tried to sound like Hayden, emphasis on tried.

Speaking of which, the Anakin death yell in the ROTS video game is way funnier than the Lego Yoda death yell. The latter is super overplayed in meme culture.

Hey, I actually think he sounded very similar to Hayden.

He got there a lot of the time, but some of his intonations and grunts didn’t fully connect with me. It’s probably more on my ears than anything else.

Lucasfilm really lucked out in having James Arnold Taylor do a near-perfect “Ewan Kenobi” voice. Maybe a thread ranking voice actors would be a good idea, since we’ve had so many of wildly varying quality.

Your claims are something that have previously occurred on here, by others also trying to deflect away from their own actions and posts. Those false claims were disproved then, and these new false claims above have now been disproved above too. According to others here who saw through both the previous and this latest round of horseshit the accusations were made by previously banned users, friends of, or people who’d previously burnt their britches here. Caston & Keyan have already left here, and now me also. This forum is awesome, as nearly all the users are on here, but it does obviously have a small dark poisonous clique, a cancer. I hope that gets cut out or removed, for the benefit of everyone else here and for the forum itself.

I now see why you chose to try and shift the discussion onto slurring others, rather than own the rancid views you posted above. You do you.

But back to expanded universe unpopular opinions: I don’t mind the cosmic horror stuff like Abeloth as much as some people. There’s space for things like that.
