Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. While it is very much a final product by this point, thank you for the feedback. I see what you mean about Dex, though I’d trimmed the opening to remove the awkwardness and weird CG shot of their hug. The kiss scene is imperfect but has been revisited a number of times to the point I’m okay with it being this fan edit’s “Vaseline on the landspeeder shot.”

Which other fan edits did you go with for your watch?

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Hey Hal,

Been a fan of your cuts since around 2015. Just wanted to say that I watched this cut with Family the other day and we all had a great time. Ironically, most of the “gotcha” moments where they claimed they realized it was a fanedit were actual cuts from the movie (ie, the Tuskan Raiders scene and Obi Wan phoning the jedi on Geonosis).

This edit has come such a far way, and I actually applaud the additional scenes you have placed back in with recent versions. The factory scene in particular is a triumph, as to me it fixed a pacing issue the original cut had and actually flowed well to become a fun and exciting scene.

That balcony kiss sure has come far. I remember when it was deep blue. The fact that it looks like an actual sunset scene from a theatrical film now blows my mind.

I’ve come to appreciate your Episodes I and II as my definitive versions of the prequels. Oddly enough, no fanedit has ever bested ROTS theatrical for me, but it may just be my nostalgic connection to that movie.

Thanks for putting so much energy into the prequels, the end product was definitely worth it.

We are of the same mind it seems, SMan. I’m a huge fan of this edit, as well as CoD, but I just can’t stop myself from a purely extended version of ROTS. Plus, I actually slid the Yoda vs. Dooku duel into the end of my personal copy of this edit.

One day I’d definitely like to see a super-duper extended version of AotC with the Kenobi flashback in it. I’d mostly want to see if that scene allows for the rest of the Anakin and Obi-Wan scenes to make sense, as well as give purpose to Anakin’s rants about him to Padme. With Padme’s family scenes, the cringe from the Anakin and Padme’s love scenes might be subdued a little, too.

But I have a feeling this will probably remain my definitive version of Episode 2. Like you said, it’s just a fun film providing a great time now without all that baggage. You don’t really have to think about or justify any of the questionable content since it’s all been smoothly cut out.

Gratifying to hear of a family having a good time watching these. Thanks for sharing.

Yes. I sent you a PM, which you can see by clicking on the speech bubble at the top-right of this webpage. Not emailing though.

I agree, I would like to see the Kenobi flashbacks and brief extended shot of Boba from his series added into Episode II. Hal, have you ever thought of incorporating this content in this edit or has the final cut been locked in for good?

Locked in for good. For my own well-being, in part.

I wouldn’t want to include those bits anyway; they fit in their shows but the duel especially wouldn’t be seamless for a few reasons, though I like the scene. I’d rather see it in Kenobi than Ep2.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Hi Hal 9000, would it be possible to send me your 3 Prequel edits? I have just found the world of fanedits and am finding it fascinating watching well-edited Star Wars official content in a new light! Your edits were especially recommended to me via a couple of online sources. The Prequels, much like the recent trilogy, left me feeling fairly ambivalent to Star Wars which is sad for someone who grew up in the 70s watching and loving the original trilogy 😃

I am more than happy with 1080p versions if you have them, or I can convert down if you have higher resolutions.

Thank you so much for all your hard work, I hope you can sit back once in a while and virtually pat yourself on the back for all the hard work!

Kind regards,
Tim.

That is pretty cool! I already removed that whole scene though. IMHO the Death Star doesn’t need to be in the prequels at all, and I prefer to leave it purely as a product of the Empire, as though only they would even think to design such a thing.

Hi Hal

Can’t believe I am only just discovering the existence of these
Would be very grateful for a link when you get a chance

Thanks v much

Finally got around to watching this and boy it makes a difference. Switching the Padme and Anakin scenes around did wonders. Going from the kiss directly to the balcony scene… just genius.

Taking out all of the Gunray side plot that made no sense whatsoever was also such a good decision.

The movie is kinda watchable and coherent now. Same goes for Episode 1.

The only thing I would change about these is to remove the Grievous conversation with Palps in Episode 3, because that just creates some serious questions. Since you provided the HQ files, maybe I will do that alternate Cut on a rainy sunday afternoon.

Credit to Slumberland for that scene transition in Ep2, by the way.

Thanks for sharing! And you’re right, you’ll have everything you’d need to modify to your own satisfaction.

On a whim, I decided to finally check out this edit tonight.

Barring some things I wish weren’t cut out (namely the Yoda and Dooku duel, which I am a weird defender of) and some deleted scenes I wish were incorporated alongside the others that you have already put into this edit… My God. It’s honestly amazing what nerd discontent and an editor’s intuition can do for a movie. Because of this edit, my second least favorite Star Wars movie of all time, a movie that I have previously decried as being bad and boring, is now an exciting and fun piece of cinema. I honestly can’t believe it! Quickening the pace and cutting out some of the more egregious, confusing, weird and creepy elements of this film really does wonders for it. It doesn’t make it a misunderstood masterpiece or anything like that, don’t get me wrong. But it’s definitely a marked improvement of a film that I had completely grown out of as an adult and have disregarded for a while now.

Anyways, nicely done Hal!

Agreed, Sasquatch. It finally feels like a fun summer blockbuster, unlike the original film which was a huge slog.

I actually made a copy of the edit which includes the Yoda vs. Dooku duel, using the original video source Hal used. I am curious, though, which other deleted scenes you would have preferred to be reinstated?

Off the top of my head, I know that there’s a scene with Kenobi having the archive droids check out the dart before he goes to Dex that would’ve been cool.

But I would have to look at the rest of the deleted scenes to see if there was anything else.

Oh yeah I understand the appeal of that one, but it’s not a make-or-break for me whatsoever.

Author

Thanks for the thoughts!

I think omitting the Yoda duel works better alongside my version of Ep3, implication being that Yoda can’t really just pick up a sword and be confident in taking down the dark lord of the Sith.

But if you put that scene back in, this edit likely would work fine with most versions of the other two prequels.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Hal, was v7 actually just the integration of a bunch of AI-upscaled deleted scenes? If so, did it make a pretty significant difference?

I’d like to get access to the original video source for this edit (HDTV), but schorman13’s link to it is dead and he isn’t responding. Trying to integrate the Yoda fight into the latest version (I only did it to v6) if it seems worth the work.
