I’m pretty meh about the Rey movie.
I’m absolutely not watching Filoni’s movie, because I don’t like the creative decisions he makes.
The movie about the origins of the Jedi could be good, as it takes place in the very distant past so whatever happens they can do whatever they want since it won’t have any impact on the SW stories everyone’s familiar with.

I hated the new Indiana Jones V trailer. I’m a big fan of James Mangold, but if that flops will his Star Wars film happen at all. Hey maybe it will be his first real misstep as a director. Doesn’t mean Dawn of the Jedi has to suck though.
i’m only on board with Rey Skywalker’s movie if John Boyega returns as Finn as a Jedi Knight.
Filoni not sure on, his live action has been downright poor to mixed. His animated stuff has been phenomenally successful except for that one show Resistance.

I, for one, am pretty excited for the Rey movie, if for no other reason than the potential to edit out all the TROS references and retitle it “Star Wars Episode IX”. 😉
The Filoni movie could be good, but we’ll have to see. It all depends on if the Mandoverse can get its act together after the catastrophic failure of BOBF and Mando season 3. A decent finale could make all the crap worthwhile.
But overall, the movie I’m most unambiguously hyped for is Mangold’s Old Republic movie. It’s exactly what I’ve been demanding for years: a fresh start for the movies, in a mostly new time frame. I just hope Indy 5 does well enough that Disney won’t consider canning him, like they did with too many directors before.

As interesting as these new movies sound to me, I’m still not sure if I’m gonna go see them. When it comes to Star Wars, I like to try to be as neutral as possible, but I’ve realized recently that the only way to really be neutral on something is just to not watch it at all.

And it comes out tomorrow! Doesn’t seem like it will be a big thing, “Grogu and the Dust Bunnies”. A cute little short. But maybe we will see more if there is a lot of positivity around it.
Also, rocknroll, do you know how many of these projects have been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm and how many are reports? I feel like it is a running gag at this point about how Lucasfilm announces a project only for it to go nowhere, but I am curious how many of those are just insider reporting. I mean, it isn’t unusual for filmmakers to work on projects with studios only for them to never get off the ground, but regardless it seems like there are a high number of them coming out of Lucasfilm.These are the only ones Lucasfilm announced directly:
Rian Johnson’s trilogy
Kevin Feige’s movie that Michael Waldron is writing
Taika Waititi’s movie (rumored to be a loose Dawn of the Jedi adaptation)
Rogue Squadron (originally for 2023 but now delayed indefinitely like everything else)

Since it turns out Mangold is directing Dawn of the Jedi, I wonder what Waititi’s film is actually about.

Just to clarify, we don’t have any indication whatsoever right now as to when Filoni’s film will get made. 2026 was only listed in the context of the original plan circa late 2019.
Disney was going to alternate Avatar sequels and Star Wars movies on Christmas of odd and even numbered years respectively starting with Avatar 2 in 2021, but then the pandemic pushed everything back a year and Lucasfilm didn’t get anything ready for the big screen quickly enough.
2026 will be a crowded year for Disney as it is, with Avengers: Secret Wars in May and Avatar 4 at the end of the year. That doesn’t mean they can’t put out something some other time of the year, but I don’t know why they wouldn’t just wait lest they get a repeat of Solo.

'During a recent interview with Squawk Box [a 4 minute video], Disney CEO Bob Iger re-confirmed that the company will be “spending less on what [they] make and making less” projects like Star Wars.
When asked directly if they’ll be pulling back on Marvel and Star Wars projects, Iger simply responded, “Yes.”
The CEO elaborated, stating that this goes along with the company’s “cost containment initiative:”
“Yep. And pull back, not just to focus, but it’s also part of our cost containment initiative. Spending less on what we make and making less.”’
If only they already had versions of films in their vaults, ready to be screened, that were very popular, and people would pay good money to see.

MSW is saying that Mando Season 4 might get turned into a theatrical movie, to be directed by Dave Filoni, as a lead-up to the “mandoverse crossover” movie that he’s already been announced for. According to MSW, if this new plan gets greenlit, the new movie slate will be Rey movie -> Mando movie -> Thrawn movie -> Jedi origin movie. He also says parts of Ahsoka season 2 might also get moved into this new potential movie. Make of that what you will.

If this is actually true and does come to fruition, I hope this means they’re learning from the failure of Book of Bobba Fett and Kenobi, and the mild disappointment of Mandalorian Season 3. If you don’t have the plot for a 6-8 episode series, don’t make a 6-8 episode tv show. If you only have enough plot for 2-3 hours don’t make it a show make it a movie. Streaming shows have been suffering from this for a long time. Things are never the length they need for the story, the runtime is always heavily inflated to keep people on the streaming site for longer and this has killed so many shows that would’ve been great if they were either a movie or 2-3 episodes shorter.

I completely agree. That said, I still hope the first Star Wars movie released in this new era is the Rey one. I feel like it just makes more sense to start there. Then they can do the Mando film and Thrawn film, and then the Jedi origins film.

'Guillermo del Toro confirmed on X/Twitter that he planned to direct a “Star Wars” movie around four years ago from a script by David S. Goyer, best known known for writing superhero movies such as “Batman Begins,” “Man of Steel” and more. The project never made it past development, but Goyer confirmed on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that “a lot of cool art work” was produced for it.
“I wrote an un-produced ‘Star Wars’ movie that Guillermo del Toro was going to direct. That was about four years ago,” Goyer said. “There was a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on at Lucasfilm at the time. It’s a cool script… you have to ask him about it. There is a lot of cool art work from it that was produced.”
Del Toro shared Goyer’s interview on X/Twitter and added: “True. Can’t say much. Maybe two letters ‘J’ and ‘BB’ is that three letters?” The director’s post has led “Star Wars” fans to theorize on what these letters might mean. Was del Toro planning to use BB-8 in a movie? Jabba the Hutt? The possibilities are endless.
Goyer also revealed that he started work on a second “Star Wars” project, a “script treatment for an origins of the Jedi movie that takes place 25,000 years before the first ‘Star Wars’ film.” While Goyer ultimately parted ways with Lucasfilm, a Jedi origin movie is now currently in development from “Logan” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” director James Mangold. He’s described the pitch as a Biblical epic about the dawn of the Force.’
Both projects intrigue me, a pity we didn’t get to see the original project come to fruition, though it is kind of cool the “origins of the Jedi” story set 25,000 years ago is still around, with James Mangold now helming that project.

There are no confirmed dates for any of the four Star Wars shows coming in 2024. Absent from the list is the second and final season of Star Wars: Andor that was originally expected in August 2024, but has likely been pushed back to 2025 due to the writers and actors strikes earlier this year.’
It sucks there will be no Andor in 2024, but I would rather them take the it time and get it right.
Acolyte could be good. I hope TOTJ S2 has new characters to focus on this time around. Not just more Jedi we’ve already seen lots of.
