Sounds like a great sound mix, Boba Feta. Taking the unique lines from the mono, and putting into a higher-quality audio source. I'd love to get a copy of this once it is finished.

If anyone could hook me up with the widescreen set, I can send some out also. Probably about 3 sets if/when I get a copy.

boba fett your project sounds absolutely wonderful; the only isolated score version I have is ocpmovie's Classic Edition, but even though it's classic, it's not really this way classic. What your doing with the mono mix sounds delightful as well.

What capture for the video are you using? DJ's or one your doing on your own?

(I still haven't recieved my copy of the Faces widescreen/p&s, but when I do i'll be sure to post.)

No it's Dark Jedi's capture. I might post some screenshots tonight if there's any interest and of course I'll be designing custom artwork as well.

Dark Jedi:
Are you going to capture the Definitive Collection Supplementals to go along with these sets?
Author
Time
I wasn't aware there were supplementals for the Defcol. Please, tell us more.

no i am not,Rowman has done a BEAUTIFUL job of this already,so no need to do them, just snag his 4 disc set, to go along with this set, and you are set.
like all the sets LOL
DJ
if you dont have Rowmans set,SHAME on you,it is VERY nice.
thank you Rowman for my set,by the way.

The laserdiscs of the definitive collection had some extras, such as interviews with George Lucas, Ben Burtt, and Dennis Muren, and a trailer or two for every movie, and a few featurettes and such.

and yes, I already have Rowman's extras, and they are nice. I was just making a suggestion...

First let me just say "sorry", for offending all the people I am about to. Second, let me say that this is just an OPINION, not a flame or a stab at anyone, especially Dark Jedi.

re: DarkJedi Faces Widescreen DVDr's :

One word : Macroblocking.

I really appreciated the cool menus, the quite good quality interview segments, but the film itself - ARGGH! I appreciate the fact that it is a raw capture, no filtering or anything, but the entire idea of a straight capture is lost when your encoder literally destroys your project. I don't know how many gigs a straight, UNTOUCHED transfer would be, but the compression seems to be a big problem for you Preservation Set creators. I don't know what encoders you all are using, but it looks like a really bad DVDShrink, as seems to be becoming the norm with these transfers. Have you ever heard of a multipass VBR encoder called "Cinema Craft Encoder?" It is the only compression encoder worth having. Clearly TMPGEnc or whatever you guys use is vastly inferior. Professional studios are known to use CCE, and there is a very good reason - it's the best. If you guys are having trouble obtaining this program, I'd be more than happy to see that set creators have access to it (msg me). Maybe you all watch your Star Wars discs on 13" black and white conventional tv's - but I, for one, have 1680x1050 resolution - which really shows the flaws, even in retail DVD's. These are just plain unwatchable. You seriously can't tell me you don't see the shockingly horrible macrblocking and text-aliasing on these discs. From the first words in the scroll, to the last credit in the reel, there are constant square segments of video that are painfully visible - which is a side effect of a low-grade encoder grouping frame areas together and encoding them in blocks; making for a very fast, totally garbage encode. I am sad, angry, and disappointed all in the same bag. And I know if it were my project, I simply wouldn't release it like this.

"Oh sweet Jeebus, let the X0 Project use CCE...."

I 'm going to step up and say I like Dark Jedi's transfers, he has done way too much to be bashed out of hand by someone who has not done the work. It's easy to sit back and criticize. If you think you can make a better transfer you go right ahead and get the money and the laserdiscs and a primo laserdisc player to do it.

like i have said before and i will say again,I DONT GIVE A SHIT,IF SOME PEEPS DONT LIKE,JUST THROW THE DAMN THING AWAY,and wait for the X0 project,or do your own.
i started out just doing these for myself any way, plus i am DONE doing anymore,so dont worry

bongloads, can i get copies of YOUR work?

Author
Time
bongloads, if you're viewing at 1680x1050, have you tried using a good scaler like the one in ffdshow and not the scaler built into your graphics card/display device?

Hey, I already said I was sorry for offending (kinda goes without saying around here), and I don't mean to stab at your efforts or anyone else's. But the fact remains, and I stand by my assertions. And thank you very much, but I did throw the "damn thing" away - 2 clicks - folders gone. And I would love to do my own, but naturally I'm not going to buy a player for one project - particularly when acceptable versions do exist - I'm just always looking to improve I've said it before, and I'll say it again : I would love to do some LD compression to DVD - provide me a true RAW source. (*X0 guys : I don't care if it's a hundred gigs, I'll send you a drive )
And yes, you can see some of my work... Just as the last time I criticized the Cowclops V2 (for pretty much the same flaws), and I challenged anyone to view my recent CCE of a certain disc and tell me multipass CCE doesn't smack the face of any other compression encoder, you can do the same now. Simply grab a copy of "Charlotte" (ID1878) from a.b.starwars, and take a look at what 10 hours of encoding on a newer machine - with good software - can do to make a 7.8GB source compress almost flawlessly to 4.32GB.

There's a reason some people don't use CCE... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$... It's incredibly expensive. And besides, there are actually people here that don't pirate software. I understand that it's your opinion, but stating it doesn't really serve any purpose here. If people like DJ's work (like me), fine.... if not, fine.... Slamming someone because they don't use CCE is like criticizing me for driving my Accord when I could easily go and steal that Ferrari over there. JMHO...

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

I said nothing about piracy. The trial version will just leave a watermark - which, in all honesty, would probably be in the black bars. And, "There is another".......For you budget-minded users, Procoder is a very good multipass-capable encoder, and not nearly as expensive as the full version of CCE.

While I would agree that CCE is probably the best encoder out there, I have to disagree that using it or another multi-pass encoder would drastically improve the video. Sending your raw capture straight to the encoder is going to be a hefty job for any program (especially at DVD5) with all the video noise intact. Multi-pass encoding would help, but really you'd only see a big reduction in macroblocking if it went DVD9 instead. (FYI, the X0 will be multi-pass CCE DVD9 unless something better comes along.)

you know, i DONT claim to be an expert at this at all,i am just a regular guy working 55hrs a week tool and die maker, that loves weightlifting,Harley Davidson Fat Boy riding, and driving my 4X4 Hemi dodge truck, and playing with my little one,i just do this for fun,and i made ALOT of very cool friends here, but you know i watch these on MY 62" DLP Hi-Def Widescreen TV and i actually AGREE with you,it doesnt look to good(but MOST transfers are still watchable),but you know NOTHING but the retail dvd's look good(well i guess there are some that look bad also)at that resolution isnt that hi-def?well the transfers ARE NOT hi-def,matter of fact ONLY the Hi-Def channels look good on my TV
Zion is that correct, that resolution mentioned is Hi-def right?so it wont look good no matter what you do correct?

so how will the X0 look on a HD TV at the size i mentioned above?because honostly i dont really watch ANY transfers on the main livingroom TV,except ocp's and DE's because they used the retail dvd's,OH and ADM's(damn i would have been in trouble if i would have missed his)but i am taking Jay's advice and getting the upconverting HDMI "PAL" & "NTSC" OPPODigital DVD player, will this upconverting make a difference or not really, also he said the HDMI will make a big difference too,can you tell me if this sounds right?
thanks for you advice Zion

Halleliuah! Exactly what I was hoping to hear. I bought some DL discs recently for the low, low price of $2 ea - with the intention of one day having X0 on them

Dark Jedi : Hey, you can at least say you tried. And don't let my, or other opinions, hinder your future projects and technical knowledge growth. Practice makes perfect - the more times you encode video, the better you will get at it and the better you will understand it. My opinions are always to be taken with a grain of salt, as I am a quality PHREAK, and can be somewhat of a troll You still own the tools necessary to create projects that far surpass your first efforts, and I encourage you to practice, and try different software packages.
