It is a little strange that there are many fan preservation projects for the 1997 Special Editions:

For such a big thing at the time, the publicity and fanfare, its own place in Star Wars history, there is still no option to watch an official release of the 1997 Special Edition cuts on a modern digital format. And there probably never will be.
