I think there is enough room to include

Nah, I think the shorter version from that clip is perfect.

RL, unless someone beats me to it I’ll send you a ProRes clip of the shot of the Jedi texts when I can.

It’s not necessary but I’m okay with it. After all, as others have pointed out, we see baby Yoda use it too.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Her line is on the Drive:

I feel like Grogu using it was definitely a corporate-mandated thing, though. Made without any regard for what makes sense in canon. Like, what are the odds they showed that episode a day or two before they released this movie, otherwise? Or maybe they didn’t know exactly how exclusive they wanted to make this power at that point.

Another shorter reading could use the phrase “Luke’s texts”. One less syllable. Haha.

And okay! I’d appreciate that!

Personally I feel like a good way to explain it would be that it is a unique power that only certain people can do, and it just so happens that Baby Yoda and Rey can (and maybe Rey can because of the dyad stuff). But, I think it is cleaner to explain it coming from the texts. Maybe it was lost knowledge. Or, maybe the Force is more “awake” than it was during the period of the PT-OT. And, it could still be that only certain people can really learn it. But yeah, I don’t think the movie has to get too deep into it. The text explanation feels good enough.

Yeah, so my very crude method of making these tests (just ripping out the relevant portion of the center channel) really shows it’s flaws here. You can hear an audible cutout because her crackling saber in the background goes away. But I’m assuming this wouldn’t be too hard to fix while editing. Here’s a rough test of how this might sound:

Wow I really like this quick simple fix

Also, not sure if I missed the explanation, but how were y’all able to substantially improve the quailty of the AI voices pretty much overnight from V3 being released?

My old methods for creating AI voices involved locating the actor speaking with little to no background noise. So from an interview, audio book, etc.

Rogue Leader found out that by taking character voices from the center channel and running it through an AI background music/noise remover, that you can achieve the same thing while still having them speak in character.

Is it a different program from ElevenLabs?

No, it’s still ElevenLabs. But we are using less source material, as well. Maybe 30 seconds to a minute of audio from the film directly.

In that case, the software has improved since, what, three months ago?

There have been some recent updates. But I don’t think it was anything substantial enough to make such a drastic difference. I think it’s mostly due to RL’s innovative method.

His method seems to be paying off.

Hehe, it’s more like I’m trying to be strict with myself.

Like “I’m gonna eat healthy, here’s a carrot.”

“Oh look at me, a bacon-filled doughnut!”

“…well, I’ll diet tomorrow!”

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

I know we ruled out using it, but were the other versions of Jon H’s ghost scenes ever made available in a better quality? The ones on YouTube have a watermark. Just for preservationists sake.

I like you, let us burn things together.

I’d like those too, I think I preferred the old one. The old one looked pretty perfect to me, while the newer one’s Anakin looks slightly weirdly proportioned to my eyes. Still amazing though.

I haven’t been paying as much attention lately to the thread, due to being busy, but I can’t wait to check out V3 when it’s on Drive.

Also, I do believe we can get Palpatine to say whatever we want now. Was there anything in particular that somebody brought up a while ago?

We can make Palpatine say anything now?

What about stream-lining the whole plan? Instead of sayin’ Kylo to “kill the girl”, he asks Kylo to bring Rey to him (later when Kylo says that Palpatine wants Rey dead can be read as a manipulation so she gets on his side).
I think it would work better for the movie if Palps already knew about the whole dyad thing, like the plan was to get Kylo and Rey together so he can suck them dry and come back to life. Maybe plan b was what he was trying to do with Rey, make her kill him etc.

About the “I made Snoke”, I always thought about how to abstract the “made” a little bit more. Maybe we could try a new line like “I made Snoke. As I made Vader. As I made you”

Also maybe review Rey and Palpatine dialogue at the end?

Oh, yes! Palpatine might be possible now!

While I’m sure a cut like that exists in the Lucasfilm archives (it was leaked that this was his plan originally leading up to the film), we simply don’t have the material to make that possible.

Palps acts surprised when he starts to sucky suck their bond. And there are so many on screen lines spoken where it’s about Palpy wanting her dead. I think it would all come across very messily. All of these lines would have to be spoken off screen (gross).

Here is the shot of Rey reading the texts.

Poe’s lines during the briefing don’t blend in seamlessly. And his line about the stockpile should be shorter, as there is barely enough time to have him speak. Try simply “an enormous stockpile of star destroyers from the old Empire.” You can see in this folder how it sounds in context.

Leia’s line “he’s too dangerous” needs to be faster, as it takes too long for her to say. The clip used in V3 has her speak more briskly. But the lines about “family’s saber” and “you are family” sound perfect.

The lines about lightspeed clipping/whipping/slipping/tripping would need to be generated as entire lines rather than sentence-mixed in. At present with what I have so far, the V3 lines about lightspeed ramming are the only viable.

The line about the ancient texts after the sandworm either wouldn’t be worth it, having to truncate her existing line, or it’ll take more creativity than I have time for at the moment.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

So what, are we gonna have to wait until an early cut of the film gets revealed to the public?

Hal, is that clip with the Ascendant color grading or the theatrical? It would be nice to have the theatrical version so others could slot it into their own edits if they want. I should’ve asked that before.

And thanks for the notes on the other lines. I’ll try to look at the Poe lines some more unless JarJar wants to take a go at them.

The whipping/slipping video clips I posted do use entirely new lines. I could share just those files if you wanted to see if they would work, if you haven’t tried those specific versions yet.
