Definitely an E-Wing

Looks like all modern trailers do to me. The featured dialogue is very, very cliché. Lots of bad acting; all those “intense” facial expressions are funny to me.

Would prefer a series that focused on Thrawn rather than more of Filoni’s little pet. Actually…wouldn’t watch that either at this point.

Still looks weirdly low budget to me.

Who is Ray Stevenson playing if he knew Anakin… and how old are these characters exactly?

i kind liked this 2 trailer but i am cautious
the show looks worst than andor but not as bad as kenobi not sure about sabine being a jedi its as never a thing on rebels
Thrawn looks really cool
i really want to see the lightsaber duels it need to be good
BUT i feel like this show is more like a step up story to the movie

idk

It’s been previously established that people who aren’t Force sensitive can still learn to competently wield lightsabers with enough practice. There were a few episodes in which Kanan taught Sabine how to effectively wield the Darksaber, and if I’m not mistaken she’s kept Ezra’s green lightsaber.

I’m a bit worried about its “low budget” look (why have these shows been so inconsistent in that department?) and maybe Thrawn’s physical appearance, but I think that’s more of an angle thing and I’m sure Lars Mikkelsen will deliver a top performance. Otherwise I’m very hyped for this, seems to be an stylistic bridge between classic EU-Legends adventure and the character-driven story from Rebels. Speaking of that, I’m sold on the live action reimaginings of the Rebels main cast - why no Ghost though?. I can easily see this becoming Rebels season 5 - hopefully in the good sense. Maybe one could feel worried about the secondary characters overshadowing our main protagonist, which seems to be an unfortunate trend in the latest Star Wars shows (Book of Boba, Kenobi, Mando S3). However considering Filoni’s soft spot for Ahsoka this may not be the case. I also like that we will be seeing a mix of both familiar (Corellia) and new locations, and seems to be a lot of ties to the larger lore - the New Republic fleet, a transition to T-70 X-Wings, etc.

I don’t think Sabine will be force-sensitive. She learned lightsaber combat from Kanan and Ezra, so when she refers to Ahsoka as her ‘master’ she could be meaning training with a lightsaber. Also the dark Acolyte girl tells Sabine “You have no power” or something like that, possibly regarding her lack of Force-sensitivity.

I think Marrok will be my fav character.

The more I see of trailers and promos for the show the less interested I’ve become in it. I’ll still watch the opening 2 episodes, but not holding out much hope it will be much different from BoBF, Kenobi, and recent Mandalorian levels of quality and style.

The new bad guys appear more interesting than the already known characters from previous series.

I think I’m more interested in seeing Skeleton Crew and Acolyte.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Shin Hati, the blond Force User with an orange saber has my interest. She looks so much like Darth Zannah.

For me, that’s when Rebels really hit its stride. Sabine is who I’m most interested in seeing in Ahsoka. The rest just looks very late Mando quality-wise.

SPOILER:

People who got to go to the early screening of the first two episodes in NYC are saying that the show starts with a crawl, but the text is in the same font as the one from Solo (except it’s red instead of blue) and the paragraphs move straight up instead of diagonally (like the saga) or fading in and out (like in Solo).

Not that it matters, but I personally think this is pretty cool! Hopefully almost all the future movies and shows do their own “spin” on the crawl. Not clear what the music is like during this sequence, but I think it’d be pretty cool if it was just a simple drumbeat, since that’s originally how it was gonna be in sw77 anyways. Could be a cool little “nod” to that.

SPOILER Review for episodes 1 and 2 (overall I liked them):

PROS: No shaky cam (lol), good music, good cinematography and lighting and whatnot, nice space opera/ spirit of adventure feel (love the crawl), easy to follow story, good characters, interesting premise.

CONS: Wooden acting (at times) and wooden action scenes (at times). Some scenes were also just a bit too slow in general. Also Sabine getting stabbed was stupid, and I feel like there coulda been a flashback or two to better establish exactly why she and Ahsoka had a falling out. Either that or just bluntly state that she can’t use the force (yet?).

Overall tho I still really like the show, and am looking forward to more.

I found the first two episodes of Ahsoka to be okay. Some initial thoughts:

This isn’t Andor, either in quality of story execution via the plot and characters, or actual production values. But it is more on a level with S2&3 of the Mandalorian, BOBF, and Kenobi series.

Is this a spoiler thread? Just in case:

The crawl was cool, but was Ahsoka ever a Jedi Knight? I suppose was Kanan too, even considering he didn’t finish his training? And I do like the concept of Sabine being an almost non-Force wielding Jedi (or apprentice!)

“2D decisions” from ancillary characters which plague Mando, BoBF & Kenobi also occur here; the Rebel ship’s captain especially, the mundane and quizzical fight scenes early on, the “For the Empire” announcement of bad guys losing any element of surprise or urgency, and the “Engage self-destruct” announcement, instead of just doing it. Ugh. They don’t have much impact or resonance if they have no weight or realism. On the flip side, Shin and Sabine’s fight was engaging, well choreographed and good direction. But it looks like surviving lightsaber impalement to the stomach is a thing now. “Barely an inconvenience!”. Ahsoka’s fight with Maroc was well executed too, if a little predictable.

Chopper was great, Tennant too. I wish they didn’t use the “map McGuffins” yet again, a pity they didn’t use or think of something else, but it is only the first two setup episodes. Design wise they did look cool.

I agree with riocknroll41, sometimes acting and action scenes were a little wooden, slow and unengaging. Flat direction in places during the 1st episode, but much better in the 2nd. On the plus side the cinematography was good overall, ships looked superb, nice score and sound design, and the story was easy to follow, given these first episodes are basically set-up. There was a little too much forced exposition in places for my liking, and not enough in others (why is Sabine the one that can decipher the map? Other than Hera pushing them together?) But again, these are the setup episodes so it gets a pass.

Fans of Rebels will probably love this series, my friend who I watched these with loved it for the easter eggs and background moments. It is like a “Rebels season 5” so far. Given the usage of “time and space”, “this ancient map will help us find a guy who’s been missing for 5 years!” and likely WBW-to-come, he thinks Maroc will turn out to be Ezra. I doubt he will be, even for a Filoni show, but we shall see.

I will watch the next episodes, but I do hope they are better overall than these two were.

I agree with much of Emer16O1’s sentiment. If people were expecting this to be the show that would win back the general audiences, I really don’t think this will do. Lot of it felt like a glorified stage play and much of the plot happens only because the characters keep making very stupid decisions. I think this would actually work much better in animation but as is, the final product is nowhere near the quality of Andor. Just good enough to keep me watching for now, hopefully it will pick up in the coming weeks.

Overall, thumbs-up, but not enthusiastically. Feels at least as good as Mando S2, but below Mando S1 and Andor.

My only complaints acting wise are, (ironically) Ahsoka herself, and Hera. I don’t even know if it is the acting so much as the unnatural and stilted dialogue they have. Could even be the heavy make-up and prosthetics affecting either their performance or my perception of it. None of it is bad enough to take me out of the experience though. I also hope we get a little more of a human personality out of Ahsoka- the stoic pondering thing she’s got going on gets old fast. I felt virtually everyone else was on point, especially the villains. Oh, and I was pleasantly surprised with how Sabine turned out, dialogue and performance-wise.

All my other complaints are small potatoes, but there’s more of them than I would’ve preferred. A handful of moments of convenient plot, poor character choices, and dumb in-world logic, but nothing stood out as blatantly egregious- at least not on first watch (except the stab, facepalm iykyk). There are some overly indulgent slow scenes that go on for a little too long, some wonky action and vfx, but none of it is earth shattering. And the overall look and design of the visuals feels much more stylized and thematic (much like Rebels) than anything else from the Mandoverse, which is something I appreciate. Though sometimes it does come across as a little too clean and sterile.

These first 2 episodes had a lot of work to do get audiences up to speed with all of the characters and plot lines (new and old), and it is not very elegantly done, but it suffices. By the end of episode 2, my wife essentially said “I don’t understand how all the background stuff fits together, but I get what the goal is and I’m invested in the characters.” She knows ‘of’ Rebels and Clone Wars, but she’s only interested in & familiar with the live action stuff. I didn’t fill her in on anything so I think she made a good test subject. Lastly, the opening crawl was unnecessary and overly complicated for her. She said it made her feel like she was expected to know the backstory and how everything fits together, but followed that by saying the show itself did a well enough job of establishing that through context and just jumping into the plot.

Looking forward to more, cautiously optimistic for what the potential is here once the plot really starts to get going.

Sabine getting lightsaber stabbed, then magically brought back to full health in a “Star Wars hospital” was a HUGE eye roller. I don’t know why they keep doing this to characters.

because Lightsaber stab is not a stant kill, qui gon died because obi wan was fighting with darth maul, there is no way that obi could stop the fight to help him, after the fight quigon was dying but not dead if he got medical help during the fight maybe he would be slive in the saga

It’s a lame cliffhanger. Especially if you can watch the following episode right away!
