Ranking the Star Wars TV series

A bit like LuckyGungan2001’s Ranking the Star Wars films thread, but this one is just for ranking the Star Wars TV series.

Mine are:

  1. Andor
  2. The Mandalorian
  3. Visions
  4. Rebels
  5. Clone Wars (2003 Genndy Tartakovsky micro-series)
  6. The Bad Batch
  7. Tales Of The Jedi
  8. The Clone Wars (2008)
  9. Obi Wan Kenobi
  10. Droids (1985)
  11. The Book Of Boba Fett
  12. Ewoks (1985)
  13. Resistance (2018)

It could be interesting to see how these rankings change with more Star Wars series being released soon. And also if some of the current series start to improve further, or maybe even start to underwhelm. Or that our rankings just change over time?

You don’t have to include any of the series you haven’t seen. Or include the various Lego series, Forces Of Destiny, or Galaxy Of Adventures in the rankings, unless you are truly hardcore!

I shall use the ranking system of Watched, Mostly Watched, Briefly Watched, and Not Watched:

Watched:
Andor
The Mandalorian
The Book Of Boba Fett
Obi Wan Kenobi
Rebels

Mostly Watched:
Visions
The Clone Wars (2008)

Briefly Watched:
Clone Wars (2003 Genndy Tartakovsky micro-series)
The Bad Batch
Droids (1985)

Not Watched:
Tales Of The Jedi
Ewoks (1985)
Resistance (2018)

This does not necessarily equate to how I would rank the shows if I fully watched them all, for example Book of Boba Fett would be significantly lower in rank than most shows. The only show I would unequivocally recommend right now is Andor.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)

Author
Time
  1. Andor (So far. Only seen the first 3 episodes, as of now.)
  2. Clone Wars 2003
  3. Mandalorian
  4. Obi-Wan Kenobi
  5. Book of Boba Fett

Haven’t seen any of the other stuff.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

So…

  1. Andor
  2. Clone Wars 2003
  3. The Clone Wars
  4. The Mandalorian
  5. Rebels
  6. The Book of Boba Fett
  7. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Haven’t seen any of the other stuff, and I’m not even interested in doing so. To be honest, I’m not even interested in watching the third season of The Mandalorian. Also, the only series I include in my personal Canon is Clone Wars 2003. I take all the other series as fun things to watch, but disconnected from the main universe.

  1. Andor
  2. Visions
  3. Rebels
  4. The Mandalorian
  5. Clone Wars - 2003
  6. Bad Batch
  7. Tales of the Jedi
  8. Obi Wan Kenobi
  9. The Clone Wars - 2008
  10. Book of Boba Fett
  11. Droids
  12. Resistance
  13. Ewoks

I may split the Mandalorian into seasons in the future. Season 1 was so very good, refreshing and welcome. Season 2 was good, but it left me cold with too much fan service, cameos, and overall lack of quality. Season 3’s opener today left me empty, I’ll have to watch it again as it felt so lacking and predictable, so it was probably just me.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

I’ve not seen all Star Wars TV series, but here is my ranking:

  1. Andor
  2. The Mandalorian
  3. Clone Wars 2003
  4. The Book Of Boba Fett
  5. Visions
  6. Obi Wan Kenobi

  3. The Clone Wars
  4. The Mandalorian
  5. The Bad Batch
  6. Visions
  7. Tales of the Jedi
  8. Obi-wan Kenobi
  9. The Book of Boba Fett

Haven’t seen all of the others yet

Visions is kind of weird to rank because I absolutely love the premise of the series and the creativity seen in all of the shorts, but because they’re shorts, it’s harder for the series as a whole to really stick with me. Loved The Ninth Jedi though, that’s a classic.

From what I’ve watched…

  1. Droids
  2. The Mandalorian
  3. Rebels
  4. Andor
  5. Clone Wars
  6. Obi-Wan Kenobi
  7. The Book Of Boba Fett
  8. Ewoks
  9. The Clone Wars (watched only maybe 2 seasons and I don’t remember any of it)

I can see The Bad Batch easily overtaking The Mandalorian soon. This season, some early missteps apart, has been some great storytelling, with tension, character arcs, and high stakes. This, Andor, and Visions are the content I am most looking forward to seeing more of.

I have absolute zero interest in anything else Disney presently has to offer, and you couldn’t pay me to watch a goddamn cartoon about Ewoks.

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

  1. Clone Wars (2003)- Well-animated, lots of good action scenes, and it does a good job bridging the gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
  2. Andor- I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like this, but it was actually pretty good. Made me appreciate Rogue One.
  3. The Mandalorian- Like the space western vibe.
  4. The Clone Wars- I don’t have the same attachment to it that some people have, which might partly be because the movie left such a bad impression on me. It did get better as it went on, but there were some choices I wasn’t on board with.
  5. Rebels- Has its moments, but I didn’t really get into it. I guess the main characters didn’t fully win me over.
  6. Visions- Not huge into anime, but there were some parts of this that I liked.
  7. Obi Wan Kenobi- Liked the stuff with Obi Wan and Vader. The rest was boring and pointless. Should have been a two hour movie instead of a miniseries.
  8. The Book of Boba Fett- Had its moments, but was mostly a missed opportunity.
  9. Ewoks- I’ve seen better. I’ve seen worse.
  10. Forces of Destiny- Only watched a few episodes of it. Completely pointless.
  11. Droids- I love R2-D2 and C-3PO, but this show did them a disservice. I did like the theme song by Stewart Copeland, though.
  12. Resistance- I couldn’t even finish one episode of it.

It is so pleasing to see this series still gets much love and respect.

I always feel like I’m one of the few people that prefers it over the other Clone Wars show (granted more people have seen the latter), but yeah it’s really good. It still has the best depiction of General Grievous.

I also prefer the older Clone Wars to TCW.

Low bar.

Andor
Visions
Clone Wars (2003)
Mandalorian (if season 4 is bad as the 3rd this will drop significantly to a Kenobi rating level)
Bad Batch
Rebels
Tales of the Jedi (Dooku episodes were cool, Ahsoka episodes felt like unnecessary promos for the new series, enough Ahsoka already)
Obi Wan Kenobi
Ahsoka
The Clone Wars (2008)
Resistance
Book of Boba Fett (I disliked the idea of his new personality, I loathed the awful execution of it and the whole thing)

Edited to include the Ahsoka series.

“Don’t tell anyone… but when ‘Star Wars’ first came out, I didn’t know where it was going either. The trick is to pretend you’ve planned the whole thing out in advance. Throw in some father issues and references to other stories - let’s call them homages - and you’ve got a series.” - George Lucas

I prefer the animated shows.

  1. Droids just for pure nostalgia
  2. Clone Wars Micro Series
  3. Filoni Clone Wars seasons 1-5 were great. 6 was so disappointing, and i never saw seven since its only on plus.
  4. Rebels

Not gonna rate the others until i rewatch or see them all which probably will be never with how Disney keeps refusing physical releases of their content, i mean i’m only getting to see Mando finally in good quality because they had the sense to release the first 2 seasons in time for Christmas.
