Star Wars ROTJ Special Edition with JUST the Vader "Nooo" removed

I don’t mind the SE versions all that much, but the Vader “No” scene at the end of the film drives me crazy. Is there any edit out there that only removes that sound? I’m wanting to introduce Star Wars to someone new (Lucas Canon only, no Disney garbage), but I can’t stand the idea of her seeing it for the first time with the ending ruined.

Any help would be awesome.

If all you want removed is the “Noooo”, then you should probably track down the 2004 DVD version. Vader’s line was added to the movie for the 2011 Blu-ray release. There are some other changes in that version too, but none of them are as noticeable as Vader’s “Noooo”.

While this is true, I’d rather go with the 1997 Special Edition if the SE is what you want.

But there are way more changes introduced in the 2004 edition then there are in the 2011 version, so if the OP wants an experience that’s as close to the “official” version as possible, I think 2004 is the way to go. For example, Hayden doesn’t show up in the 1997 version, and given how much the OP seems to be an adherent to Lucas canon, that would probably be a big sticking point for them.

I know, which is why I said what I said. Not sure what you mean by “offical” as they all are official, some are just better than others… I couldn’t care less about “Lucas canon” and so should everyone, that’s my point.

But he clearly cares, and that’s my point. It’s fine to have an opinion on what’s the “best” version, but the OP came in with a clear request, and I responded accordingly. You can’t expect to just force everyone to have the same taste that you do.

Really? You’re introducing Return of the Jedi to someone new and you’re afraid that “No” is going to ruin the ending for her? Well, I got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the particular “No” you are referring to won’t make her blink twice. The bad news is the absolutely horrendous “Jedi Rocks” dance number will have already tarnished her view of the movie (and then the Hayden force ghost can come along at the end and ruin that for her too).

My suggestion would be to show her the actual original trilogy and not the sub-par special editions if you want her to have as good an opinion of the movies as you are hoping for.

Clearly? He’s looking for a fan edit. He said he didn’t want Disney stuff and to my knowledge 1997 is GL’s official version as well, so not sure what your problem is. If I was forcing my taste then I wouldn’t recommend any SE version at all, I haven’t seen those in over 10 years. So stop dissing others’ opinion if they differ from your own. Thank you.

George’s last official version was 2011, technically 2019 since he oversaw the very few changes to that as well. 2011 and 2019 Blus introduced very few new changes, they’re essentially just the 2004 versions with very small extra stuff, but amongst that extra stuff is the “NOOOOOoo” that the OP doesn’t want. 2004, on the other hand, introduced many many new things when compared to 1997, all approved by George, so Starkiller is correct in assuming it’s what the OP is looking for. They’re saying they want all George-approved SE changes minus the Nooooo, which is close enough to the 2004 versions that it’d be correct.

OP, I’d recommend schorman’s HDTV preservation as it’s the 2004 versions in 1080p.

100% this.

Darkmind, If you like your friend, and want to introduce them to the most authentic version then surely it is the unaltered original versions all the way, for the benefit of that friend? If your friend likes them, then let them know about all the changes and different versions, and maybe even watch them later?

If you really want to show you friend the 2011 Special Edition then just “mute” the Vader “Nooooo” at the end! lol
Or make an edit of it yourself by changing the audio track?

It has been 6 months since your post. Did you friend enjoy the films, Darkmind? Which version did you them, and what did they think?
