I’ve only ever seen a couple people rank RotS at the bottom, and I’ve always wondered about that. I’m curious to hear your take on the movie.

Yeah that is strange, especially coming from a Force Unleashed fan. Interested in your thoughts.
I would have guessed at there being more fans having ROTS placed there, or near there? Huh. Mainly it is because it is the film that was meant to bridge the PT and OT, and instead it introduced discrepancies and contradictions with what had been firmly established in the Original Trilogy. Needlessly so, too.
It also marks low for me as there is not much in the way of a friendship or brotherhood shown between Ben and Anakin. Yes, that should have occurred more in the previous films, or accomplished it better in them, but this was the ‘final shot’ at portraying that. The same also applies for Padme and Anakin’s relationship, and crucially, “Vader being seduced by the dark side of the force”, instead of what we got as his reason for “the turn”.
Before it was released those were the four things I wanted to see done well in ROTS, and thought that we would get, despite the shortcomings in TPM and AOTC. Yet, for me it failed across the board.
I remember sitting in the cinema at the time and thinking “at least that is over”, something I’ve not felt after watching any of the other films, even AOTC. Repeat viewings since haven’t changed that feeling unfortunately. With the usual pluses of John Williams’ music, Ewan and Ian doing well with what they were given, there isn’t much for me to place it higher.
That’s all just my opinion. For anyone who loves or enjoys ROTS then best wishes to them.
What placed as the lowest ranked film for you, and why? (Or pls point me to where you’ve previously explained this)
The Force Unleashed had the interesting concept of the Emperor being the person who actually birthed the Rebellion. A ploy to out and put all his enemies in one place. And when destroyed would be a deterrent for others thinking of going against him. And a secret Apprentice for Vader too. Now that was impressive! Yes, the game was way overpowered, over the top, and “of its time” with the “boss baddies”, but was an enjoyable story, and fun video game. Lucas considered TFU canon, or “an actual chapter in the overall story line”. So for me, that became my Prequel for a time. The less said about the TFU2 the better!
The TFU book is still a good read. It does start out a little simplistic and “gamey”, but after the initial chapters it expands upon what we see in the game in some detail and does it very well.

I didn’t like movies directed by J.J. Abrams to begin with, and TFA left such a bad taste in my mouth it’s the reason I will never watch TROS or any other Abrams-directed movie for that matter. It’s why TROS will never be included in my ranking of SW films.
Wow. That is hardcore, good for you. Out of interest, have you read the DOTF fan comic, or have been tempted to watch any of the more heavily modified TROS fan edits?
