I’ve just got the news that the edit is now finally IFDB approved!

Thank you all so much! ❤️

Congrats. I remember the hoops I had to jump through to get Army of the Republic approved back in the day. They have high standards!

Thanks so much Smudger! They absolutely do. Thanks so much for your original TCW movies, they really started this whole thing for me. I still maintain them for those who continue to request them! I’m proud my edit can stand alongside yours.

You’ve put a hell of a lot of work into it. I’m glad someone has taken the Clone Wars and made it great through to completion. I wish I could have finished my project, sadly other priorities in life get in the way!

Congrats Eddie!

Inspired by this whole project I just binged Tales of the Jedi and really enjoyed it! I love the heavy, melancholy undertone of the series.
The 5th episode when Ahsoka trains was such a gut punch at the end with Rex saying “Let’s hope all that training paid off” and the final shot. Umph! I just love those episodes in TCW that show us (in a way the movies never did) why Anakin was such a great Jedi and why is so tragic that he falls.
My only complaints is that ep.2 is a bit too heavy handed for my taste. The writing could have been more subtle. And the Yoda like Jedi in ep. 4.

Congratulations.

I dropped out of the development of these when I ran out of time to watch the drafts but it does look good to see them run through to completion.

As the next episode renders, I’ve been thinking a little about structuring the finale of the show.

Interested in thoughts here.

Again I don’t know if you’re still looking for feedback but personally I keep the movies separate. I don’t like mixing too much media together because it kind of takes me out of it.
I try to keep the movies as pure as possible just trimming some of the annoying aspects which is why I like Hal900’s edits for the PT (I think I have the v3 or v4 but I haven’t been on these forums in years so I plan to check that after I’m done with your thread). For the OT I watch harmy’s de-specialized edits.

So my plan it to watch your show. Stop where it makes most sense. Watch RotS. and carry on.
I’m also interested in the Son of Dathomir content since I’ve never read that comic.

PS:On page 72, making my way and I grabbed your season 1.

Agreed, and definitely this version of TCW is designed to split around the viewer’s preferred movies. One day I may look into a merge but I’m not in a rush to do that because it’s not a great value add.

And yes! Son of Dathomir is great! It’s a good comic but the fans have done a really good job bringing it to life with voiced dialogue, SFX, music, and animation.

Tales of the Jedi thoughts!

OK, so I’ve just watched through the six Tales of the Jedi shorts which were just released. Firstly, they’re all brilliant. Lovely little vignettes, and I hope for more. But, importantly, they’re all very relevant to The Clone Wars, or at least the prequel era.

I’d appreciate any additional thought you guys can afford here:

Thoughts!

For me Life and Death is hard to put at the beginning of the series because the tone of TotJ is overall very somber compared to the more bombastic TCW, and we don’t really care about Ahsoka in the beginning so the story doesn’t hit. I wonder if maybe it could be around the time Ahsoka leaves the Jedi Order, with “many years ago…” type of flashback. I think it could be poetic to see her discovery as a Jedi as she leaves the Order.

I like your idea for Practice Makes Perfect. It’s hard to cut it since it works so well together and takes us from showing how Anakin was a great Master to the point of pure sadness with the final sentence and camera shot.
That said I like your idea of putting it around her model change if it works. The latest scene, though amazing, will probably have to go sadly.

Resolve should probable be cut in 2. The first part right at the end of TCW as a sort of epilogue. And the following part maybe as a prologue to Rebels.

The 3 Dooku epsiode, though mostly great, don’t really belong in TCW. Maybe the 3rd one as a prologue but like you said it works better before AotC.

And that’s me all caught up! Thanks Eddie for ‘finishing’ the project!
I had gotten all of Smudgers’ movies as they released and so when I came back to the forum to check on status I was sad to see the project ended. That’s when I found your project and honestly, for a fan edit, you completed this in record time!
I think I prefer your episodic format to the movie one since TCW was a series and I prefer to keep it as it was. I downloaded your season 2 last night and will grab the rest in the next couple of days!

I’m so glad you had fun reading the whole journey! I need to read back from about page 50 myself to pick up some old notes for future polish and my other post-release plans!

The Dooku episodes of TOTJ aren’t vital to TCW, as you say, but I definitely think they add value to the prequel movies and work well as a chronological introduction to the franchise and the prequels.

I really hope you enjoy the show!

Totally. I really enjoyed those episodes and was very happily surprised by the whole series.

If you’re still looking for TotJ inclusion thoughts, I finally got around to watching it so I have input now!

This could’ve already been brought up but I love the idea of incorporating Life and Death into the opening episode as intermittent flashbacks, sorta like what Arrow did with the island in its first few seasons; something that matches the beats of the flashback to Ahsoka’s first mission as a Jedi. I feel that it would help reinforce the idea early on that Ahsoka is really the focus of this version of the show, especially since—if I recall correctly—that was a big focus and challenge when editing the earlier episodes.

Also having some higher-quality animation in the beginning wouldn’t hurt imo.

Now that it’s been announced that the third season of Bad Batch will be the last, do you consider incorporating the most central elements of the series as a kind of epilogue to your edit?

I’m commenting on this because the series has very interesting parts that show the transition from the Republic to the Empire. You could bring those more core elements together and add the Ahsoka scenes from TOTJ + the final Vader scene, and bring it all together in one final arc.

I suppose not as part of TCW:R, but as its own thing it’s something that’s likely to be out fairly soon. I have done some planning for the first two seasons over in Acbagel’s thread, but I do have a week coming up that I intend to spend editing.

This looks great. Clone Wars introduced so much good Star Wars content. I’ve done a few full watch throughs of Clone Wars with various people, but I think I’m now at the point where I’d like a more refined version for future viewings. Could I a get a link to your amazing work please?

Here’s the next step for you Eddie, doing a fanedit with Hayden’s voice as Anakin!

https://youtu.be/H6sSrpyNPpg

Honestly, I’d prefer Matt Lanter’s voice for live action Anakin. Hayden is a great visual actor, but his voice is… not the greatest.

I beg to differ. TCW Anakin is too much like Han Solo imo.

I get what you mean. To be honest, I would prefer a completely new voice for Anakin, that combines Lanter’s baritone voice and sense of charisma with Hayden’s abrasive, angsty personality. That would require a ton of effort, though.

Definitely out of scope for this - I’ve got a lot of respect for the TCW voices and wouldn’t want to recast them even to their original live action equivalents!

It really freaked me out when I heard Lanter’s voice on the Celebration panel and I instinctively related it more to Anakin than Hayden’s voice. Love both men and their performances, it just comes down to time spent hearing each voice, and there’s so much more screen time with TCW Anakin. It has actually evolved to a point where that feels more natural to me now.

What, you thought I’d stopped making new episodes?

RELEASED - S03E00 - Dreams of Destiny (Interlude) (v2.1)

  • RELEASE VERSION.
  • An all-new interlude episode bridging seasons two and three.
  • Comprising the original Tales of the Jedi episode Practice Makes Perfect, and the Forces of Destiny episodes Unexpected Company, The Starfighter Stunt, The Imposter Inside, Teach You, I Will, and The Padawan Path.
  • Running 22 minutes.
  • DOWNLOAD LINK is in the tracker spreadsheet, PM me for access.
  • Note: It’s recommended that you download this before watching, rather than streaming it directly from Google Drive.

This is an experimental little interlude I’ve had cooking for a while, that I’m very proud of. It satisfies a few important goals:

  • It contains the final content from Tales of the Jedi that I hadn’t yet included in TCW:R
  • It contains the Forces of Destiny episodes featuring Ahsoka during this timescale
  • So, now, we have 100% of Ahsoka’s story (that’s available in video format, and set in this timeframe) within this edit, in near-chronological order.
  • It bridges Ahsoka’s costume change (seasons two and three in TCW:R) nicely
  • It highlights her journey so far, through her early appearances and maturation, and hints a little at her destiny without spoilers

What I’ve done here is compile a story out of both sources of content, elegantly using the fact that Ahsoka is frequently stunned to unconsciousness in TOTJ’s Practice Makes Perfect episode as a framing device for the FoD shorts. This ‘unconsciousness’ device also works nicely as an excuse for why the animation style and tone of the FoD shorts are a little different from what we’re used to from TCW.

It’s a little odd, a little experimental, a little fun, but it’s also got a suprising amount of valuable content in it for what it is - most notably Anakin training Ahsoka to resist Clones, and Ahsoka becoming aware of Anakin and Padmé’s relationship. This content doesn’t really work on its own, but combined I think it heightens both and makes a worthy episode.

The ‘Ahsoka’s dream’ format also givs us some flexibility over the timeframe and reality - are these events a little earlier, recent, or during this timeframe? Are they exactly real, fantasy, canon, or not canon? This allows the viewer to take only what they want from this.

In terms of the FoD shorts, I begin with the episode where Ahsoka learns of Anakin and Padmé’s relationship, which leads nicely into Ahsoka deciding to spend quality time with Padmé after. We then see Ahsoka using and training with her second lightsaber (also a feature of her season three CG model update), around the time in the framing episode where she switches to using it too.

The final FoD short is Ahsoka’s formal rise in rank, and Yoda and Anakin’s pride, showing her maturity. But this is in FoD style (is this now reality?) I like this, because I then decided to include a CG-style glimpse into her future (is this now the dream?) as we see her and Rex preparing to walk through a door together, with his gun to her back, reflecting back on her training. I cut away before the door opens (unlike the original version of this), so it doesn’t spoil what’s within - hopefully that’s the right balance between flash-forward and force vision/dream, and a tease without actually spoiling what’s going on there.

Noteworthy changes:

  • This episode is titled ‘Dreams of Destiny’, as a nod to its Forces of Destiny origins, and to play up the dreaminess.
  • Regarding placement, as stated, it naturally fits here.
  • No opening text as it’s a special episode - more on that in the following post.
  • Structurally it’s a simple intercutting using fade-to-white, with the transitions smoothly polished.
  • The final fade - to the flash-forward, is a traditional fade to black, to add more mystery.
  • As stated, the final scene remains, with the spoiler of what’s behind the door minimised. I felt I needed to keep this scene because it pays off the present day training plot - albeit with a tease.

(This also brings the total number of episodes required to tell Ahsoka’s story, and the story of the Clone Wars, to 50, which I find very pleasing.)

And for those keeping track, that does make my ‘Tales From the Clone Wars’ mini anthology of Tartakovsky leftovers a bit more moot now (since it used to host the Forces of Destiny shorts) - but I will eventually include that episode in the ‘very least important’ category.
