Things that make you realise you're getting older

  1. It takes two attempt and a loud exhale to get off the couch

  2. The MILF section on adult sites all look considerably younger than you

  3. Received a text last month: “In 7 years time the 80’s will be 50 years ago”. I laughed instantly because the 80’s were only a few… ah shit.

On the bright side you give less fucks about the trivial stuff than before. Now get off my lawn!

Minor correction on #3. In 7 years time, only the year 1980 will be 50 years ago. And it was still culturally the '70s in that year.

When’s something gonna happen?

1993 was 30 years ago…

I still catch myself saying 20 years ago.

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.

The other day I told an old girlfriend she’s a gorgeous girl. Later on I remembered she’s 35 years old, so it would be more appropriate to say she’s a gorgeous woman. She still appreciated my compliments, so I guess I’m fine there.

Seeing kids use a hand gesture of holding a cell phone with their whole hand to mime talking on the phone instead of the thumb-pinky thing you’d think of or do.

Also, today I pivoted away from my own car as I got close to it with the thought, “That can’t be my car; it’s got a carseat in the back.”

My stance on revising fan edits.

A great deal of the references I know are slowly but surely becoming more dated. For example, Justice League one of my favorite animated shows is now 22 years old, which is almost as old as I am.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Why do people keep using the term “mid”? What’s “No cap”? What is this? I’m only in my twenties but I can’t even keep up with modern slang. (I never used much slang like this in the first place, but still.)

Move along, move along.

They say “mid” because it’s shorter than “mediocre” (although some people misuse it to just mean “bad”). “No cap” is one of many examples of ghetto slang co-opted by a non-ghetto audience: “Cap” means “bullshit”, basically, so “no cap” means “that’s right”. I don’t use those terms, but as a zoomer I hear them enough to know what they mean. 😉

One of my friends who is close to my age doesn’t know what a Tamagotchi is. I’m 26, he’s 22. Am I really that much older?

I can’t even keep up with it and I’m only in my late teens.

That reminds me. Mr. Beast has such a slappable face.

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

Never watched a single one of his videos. I only know him from the thumbnails YouTube persistently shoves in my face when I’m not signed in.

I lowkey just figured out how to use the phrase “lowkey”. Actually… I’m still not sure I’m doing it right. Is there a space or a hyphen? Whatever. I low-key need a zoomer dictionary.

Man, I miss 90s lingo. It ruled.

I work at a retro video game store, and we sell stuff from pretty much every era. I was once asked what the oldest thing in the store was… and I realized it was me (being born in '74).

We’ve since obtained an original Magnavox Odyssey from 1972, so I am thankfully no longer the oldest thing in the store :p

I remember the 1990s like it was yesterday. The music, the clothes. The movies. Video games. Sometimes i feel like it was another lifetime. Same for the 80s.
