Revenge of the Sith (The New Canon Cut) [ON HOLD INDEFINITELY] — Page 25

I think the Dooku tracks from the Jedi Tales series would work great in this.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Wow, everyone getting ahead of me haha, that was going to be in one of the new clips in a more holistic post about what I’ve been doing with this edit.

I wanted to come back to this with more to show but not even a few days after I started work on it again, this thread got bumped (and now this lol)! Well, whatever. Yeah, I’m back at this. I dug up my old laptop’s drive and have been going through and syncing/re-sourcing files, redoing edits, etc.

I’m hoping it will be the final version so I can finally put this old edit to bed. And then back to OLD BEN and COAXIUM BEBOP, I swear

  • 1080p
  • Tone down the extra audio additions by like a third
  • Tone down the sillier stuff (to tighten pacing, as well as being over some of it. No more extended elevator antics or excessive droid talking, for example)
  • De/re-score parts of the film; let the film breathe a bit, make a more compelling tone throughout
  • No more color grade, or at least a subtler one

If there’s anything about this edit I was most proud of, it was how much I was able to change Anakin/Obi/Padme’s motivations in the story, and I think that may have gotten lost in the all the other ambitious stuff I was cramming in and experimenting with. So I want to just focus on polishing presentation of those elements now, and not just keep throwing shit at the wall. Like I said, I’ll have a more holistic post at some point this month.

EDIT: Also I was never going to add TCW footage this

According to this reddit thread, there is. [LINK REMOVED]
I’m only collecting these edits now, so I can’t tell you if that one is good or not, sadly.

Wait? So even a link to a discussion thread about Star Wars fanedits to reddit, without any links, is prohibited to post here? I’m sorry! I wasn’t even thinking about this being a possibility.

Is naming other fan edits allowed at least? Because I wanted to ask something about this cut after I looked through the changelog of another fan edit for this movie and watching one by the same author for Episode 1.

The reddit thread you shared contained direct links to edits which is not allowed. Discussion of any edit projects is fine.

That all sounds pretty good. If I may I don’t think this movie needs an extensive overhaul, as opposed to especially episode 2, which imho would need a drastic restructuring. This one is already on its own, far better of a story than the other two were. So going at it in a subtle way and focussing on the characters sounds like the right approach.

Ok, I only qoute the specific post’s text next time. Sorry about that! I didn’t check every post in the comments, that is sadly my fault. Thank you for the heads-up! I do have another question about spoiler tags. Do I need to use them here, or is it ok to just openly post spoilers here?

Spoilers for new releases are only allowed in threads that are marked for spoilers. Generally the rule of thumb is about a six month moratorium on openly posting spoilers from release date. Spoilers for older things like ROTS are fine in any thread at this point.

I trust the new version of the NCC will differ significantly from your original, more ambitious plans, NFB?

So what are you adding to this new version of your revenge of the sith edit?

I have little interest in new Disney made SW stuff, so that shouldn’t be a problem. Speaking of which, did they change Padme’s fate with their “canon”? Because… I looked at the changelog of this edit and also watched his Episode I cut recently.

https://ifdb.fanedit.org/star-wars-episode-iii-labyrinth-of-evil/

Just to get an impression for what things others might want to change about this movie, and the end of this changelog made me shake my head… Thankfully, he also offers what he calls an “Alternative Version” of this Edit as well. But I got to be real here. I do not want to see such drastic changes as the only option. So my biggest question is does this edit leave the ending of Episode III intact?

Padme living is something a lot of editors do to align with Leia’s line in RotJ about having known her mother (which is pretty dumb imo - much smoother to just delete the line in RotJ).

Author

To answer the above question padme still dies in fact in tales of the Jedi Ahsoka and bail organa were at her funeral.

IMO the biggest problem with removing Padme’s death is how, if you watch it in chronological order, it doesn’t work. We’re left with Padme being alive and then she isn’t addressed for two whole films before it’s just unceremoniously said she died.

This lucas’s fault in the end leia having memories of padme is a plot hole that didn’t have to be. I know what he originally was going for before he decided to have padme die giving birth to Luke and leia. it was for Luke to be the one that gets to the know the father he never knew and leia to know the their mother each know one of their parents but revenge of the sith ruins that.

One day people will stop throwing “plot hole” around for every movie-related complaint they have.

Adults claim to remember things from their childhood that they’re sure happened all the time, even if they provably didn’t. I’ve never heard any argument on why Leia should somehow be exempt from this phenomenon outside of fanboys wanting another reason to rag on Lucas.

Leia, as a grown woman, vaguely recalling non-specific memories she wouldn’t have is far from a “plot hole.”

Not a fan of that naming, either. “Inconsistency” is the far better word, imo. But I honestly didn’t even recall the line you guys are referring to from the OT, so that goes to show how “big” of an issue this one is compared to, drastically changing the ending of Episode 3 and creating more problems for both PT and OT in the process.

Honestly the bigger “problem” with Luke and Leia being twins in Episode 3 is that Padmé and Anakin are always talking about THE baby, singular. How on earth does she not know that she is carrying twins?

Yeah, that does happen, but the context around the scene clearly indicates that her memories were supposed to be real. The whole thing about her mother being “beautiful, but sad” fits so much with the idea of Padme surviving ROTS that it definitely seems like it was Lucas’ intention at the time.

However, I agree with AniStar that the cleanest solution is to just remove that line from ROTJ. Are we really so purist that we need to destroy the whole thematic value of ROTS’s ending just to avoid cutting even a single line from the OT?

I mean, it’s not like she could have gotten a CT scan while still keeping her relationship secret. This never really seemed like a problem to me.

Lucas did give a new reason why she had memories of her real mother as a baby and it was dumb the force.

Indeed.

“Do you remember your mother, your real mother?”
“Why are you asking me this?”
“I don’t remember my mother.”

Very simple, doesn’t lose much of the original’s meaning, and without destroying the thematic structure of another movie in the series. If one is to cut “jealous Han” later in that scene, they might as well cut Leia’s contradiction.

I guess this is the best way to make it work. yes it gets rid of each of the twins knowing one of their parents but Lucas didn’t leave fans any other logical choice to make sense of it without going into ridiculous territory sadly.
