DVD-Lab and multiple audio tracks?

Hey all,

needing some help with my version of The Game.

Some of the extras have 2 different audio tracks and I'm having a lot of trouble making "links" in the menus so that the two different tracks will play when selected. Does anyone have any experience in this? I was told that I had to create an "audio" menu that will relate back to the first, which I've done...but it still doesn't play the second audio track. It only plays the first. I'm thinking maybe because I have different "extras" on the same page that it's just reverting back to the first? I don't know. Help!

This is from an email that MeBeJedi sent me when I asked him a similar question about DVD-lab.

"Well, let me tell you what I did for my SW DVD. I had two soundtracks - The first track was the PCM LD soundtrack, and the second was the AC3 commentaries.

I did not want to have to manually switch between the soundtracks when I went to the commentaries, so I set it up like this.

The first track is technically Track "0". Because my DVD intro was a Dolby Digital trailer, that meant that track 0 had to be AC3 for all movies, which meant that my commentaries would be Track 0 for the film, and the soundtrack would be Track "1" (the second track.)

To automatically force an audio switch, do this: Connection -> Add -> Add command object -> VTS domain

You will get a white box. In it, you will put one of these two commands:

SetSTN (audio=0 )

SetSTN (audio=1 )

When my DVD started, the Dolby Digital trailer would play with Track 0 (AC3). Between this movie and the root menu, I placed the "SetSTN (audio=1)" command in the "VTS domain" menu so that the player would switch
to the second track (PCM) for my film. Now, at the bottom of each chapter menu page, there would be a "Commentaries" button. If the user selected this button, it would go to another "VTS Domain" menu which said "SetSTN=0". While the user was in the commentaries menu, the first track (AC3 commentary) was automatically selected. It would stay this way until the user chose the "Return to Main Menu" button, which was again routed to a "VTS Domain" menu which stated "SetSTN (audio=1)", setting the player back to the PCM soundtrack for the regular chapter menus.

While this is a little harder to program (at least, the first time), it makes navigating the DVD tracks much easier. The track that is to be played is already determined depending on the menu you have selected."

Worked like a charm for me.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I have absolutely no idea what you just said. I don't know anything about "script" or changing it unfortunately. And if I can't figure out how to do all of this, then I might as well scrap all of my Criterion ideas at this point.

I'm SO frustrated that there's not an easy way of doing this. I asked DVDRhelp as well and did what they told me but it still doesn't work.

For some reason...ugh.

This is the most important part:

To automatically force an audio switch, do this: Connection -> Add -> Add command object -> VTS domain

You will get a white box. In it, you will put one of these two commands:

SetSTN (audio=0 )

SetSTN (audio=1 )

Create an audio menu, with choices for each soundtrack. Between each button and the movie (or next menu), place one of these two commands. For example, the first track is the movie audio. If they select "movie audio", then it will link to this command, which tells the DVD player to play the fist audio channel, and then continues on to the movie.

"Movie Audio" buttton - (draw link to) - SetSTN (audio=0) - (draw link to) - Movie/Menu
"Commentary" button - (draw link to) - SetSTN (audio=1) - (draw link to) - Movie/Menu

Keep in mind that the audio can stil be switched on the fly during movie playback as well.

While all this sounds tedious, it actually makes a little more sense once you start making the connections. Which is why I like the "visual" aspect of DVD Lab projects - it works the way I think.

Forget it. I figured it out. I used the Audio - IFO Editor and changed it to allow 2 different audio options. For some reason, regardless of what you do, it's set to 1.

WORKED PERFECTLY!!!

Oh, there is that as well. (I forgot about that, since I only used that once.)

Not meaning to sound too anal, but this thread would have been more suited to the "How-To's, and Technical Discussions" forum.

Well, now that digitalfreaknyc's problem has been solved, surely this thread can be moved to the "How to" forum for future reference. By the way, this thread helped me out as I will need to do multiple audio tracks on an upcoming project. So thanks for the information.

Honestly, had no idea there was such a forum here. I've never read it! Sorry!

It is a new forum, and I'm glad someone was able to benefit from this thread. I'm happy to answer any DVDLab questions.
