I remember him mentioning/referring that it was the actual original version. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me. If he didn’t then yes, it certainly would be the D+ version.

I remember this to. He said it had the original effects and everything. He watched it around filming Rouge One.

And around the same time a box was found in the falcon room. With many unused/ used footage.

Well they just dropped the whole series in one go. Just watched the first 3 eps. LOTS of unseen stuff for Star Wars, not so much new stuff for ESB, but there is still quite a bit. It’s probably going to be a lot less for ROTJ because the next ep is going to feature Indy and other projects ILM were working on by the looks of it, while the first 2 were Star Wars and the third was mainly ESB. The footage they are showing for the unaltered versions looks different to what was in the trailers, less processed, but i’d need to do proper comparisons to know for sure. These are obvious rough scans from prints, and definitely not 4k scans because they do lack detail, especially when compared to 4k77, 83 etc.

just watched the first 2 episodes and loving it so far , like adywan said , lots of previously unseen stuff . Was surprised to learn the actual story of the design of the Falcon straight from Joe Johnston …for years I had read behind the scenes accounts in making of books , film magazines etc ,that it was based on a hamburger with an olive to the side that George Lucas was eating . The Steve Sansweet book Star Wars From Concept To Screen To Collectible was one of those sources .Turns out there was a hamburger mentioned in regards to the look of the finished model , but only after the final design was completed . And while it is great to see documentary footage and the craftsman being interviewed , Disney really needs to do the right thing and make the work of those academy award winners available and honor them by putting the original theatrical cut on the platform for all to enjoy .

The early episodes seeing the home movies of each of the major players was fantastic, to understand their energy and passion from an early age. Would like to see more of that as they worked through the next few decades and new teams.

Yes, I absolutely agree. It was noticeable there was no discussion of the 1997 Special Edition or later SE changes with CGI, that the Prequels only got a 10 minute segment, and nothing much at all for the Sequels. It was an enjoyable series until the last episode where it felt too rushed.

The Jurassic Park and Terminator sections were also good to watch. Though the series was at its strongest when focusing on the Original Trilogy era. But I may be biased! 😃

I’m gonna have to do some side by side comparisons but I’m 99% sure that all the shot’s from Empire are from TN1’s Grindhouse version and I have a feeling that the Star Wars shots might actually be from the Silverscreen Edition.

I said this out loud when I saw it. Though seeing the comparison it does look like a different film source, it’s weird that the best source Disney could find for a print is essentially the same as something this community had several years ago and has since surpassed.

Some of the dirt and scratches are identical, but some aren’t. The similar spots are probably just specks from compositing though, which of course would be the same no matter the scan. The D+ version seems to be a tiny bit less cropped as well.

Just goes to show that they “still” have sources of their own. And they shouldn’t butcher it with DNR or stylized colors.

Well, I’m watching the final episode now and I can tell you they are 100% for sure using the fan-made Jurassic.Park.1993.35mm.1080p.Cinema.DTS.v2.0 release - I compared it and it’s pixel-for-pixel exactly the same, except they graded it a tiny bit more towards teal.

Wow I don’t know if I should say that’s awesome or what. So a scan from fans but a bit more teal. Interesting.👍

Probably not as high-quality as other ways, but you still get the idea that they are different sources. The Silver Screen Edition cleaned up many or the marks and dirt that are so apparent on the documentary”

A lot of the unfinished FX shots in there could be great resources for fanedits!
