The Boys is the best remedy for that.

I find grimdark deconstructions a cure that’s worse than the disease. YMMV

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

John Boorman really sells Zardoz short. Yeah, it’s very clearly not his best work, but it has such a cool vision to it. The film also reflects so much of early-‘70s Sexual Revolution thinking from various perspectives. Even when the movie is being bizarre, it’s bizarre in a fascinating way, which is more than I can say for a lot of bad art house films (e.g., The Jar).

I’ve liked Zardoz from Day 1. It has issues, but it’s far better than the Mad Max ripoff pop culture’s painted it as.

Other than wanting a good new Superman movie, or X-men movie i kind of am sick of comic book movies in general. Though i will probably see The Flash just to see Keaton as Batman. The MCU has moved beyond manageable for me too many shows and movies. DC is far too uneven in quality so many bad films. I haven’t given 2 seconds of thought to the MCU since seeing Endgame. Sure i saw Black Widow, but i forgot about it already pretty much. I have owned the digital of the second Doctor Strange for weeks and i have no real desire to watch it. I like Sam Raimi and Danny Elfman i’ve watched like the first ten minutes with the bad cgi and turned it off.

Fan edits of the original Star Wars trilogy should have new effects that stick to the limits of 1977-1983 technology rather than reusing Special Edition effects if the edit’s designed to be more like the theatrical cuts.

I think James Cameron is an overrated director. I think he is a talented guy. But i think Aliens is vastly overrated as a movie. I think Terminator the original is probably his best film. This is not an i hate Aliens screed. Its a fun actioner, its nowhere the masterpiece the original Alien is not even close.

I liked Jaws: The Revenge.

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.

Agreed.

The Terminator and Terminator 2 are the only James Cameron movies I genuinely like. Everywhere I look people won’t shut up about how awesome Aliens is, but I frankly found it to be a pretty generic movie.

Same.

A movie must have characters that I can relate to or/and can get emotionally attached, has to have a great narrative, a very well put beginning middle and end and acting has be at least subpar. If a film lacks any and or all the movie will fail.

With studios in the news for deleting films they don’t consider profitable from streaming services, having a collection of over 700 physical films is a worthwhile investment not only for your own library but for film preservation.

Damn. When did this become unpopular?

I have altered Lucas’ visions. Pray I don’t alter them any further.

If you’re a fan of Surrealist film, this will be unpopular.

Agreed. I still use streaming services occasionally, but I’ll always love physical media. It makes life simpler, quality over quantity.

As well as Monty Python, Airplane, Naked Gun, and other surreal and nonsensical comedies.

I liked Halloween Resurrection.

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.

It’s infinitely better than Halloween Kills.

I think the only Halloweens I didn’t at least have a good time watching are the Rob Zombie ones.

The Future Coda ending of Terminator 2 is a better ending than the theatrical ending. It prevents lots of terrible sequels, and it ties in to the film’s themes of “no fate but what we make for ourselves” by preventing the nuclear war from happening.

Evangelion is an incredibly overrated anime. I used to be a big fan, but now it just seems like a mess of half-assed ideas and inconsistent tone that thinks it’s way smarter than it actually is. It would be a genuinely great series if they just made 3 changes: flesh out the background lore and side characters, tone down the awful humor and creepy sex appeal in the early parts of the series, and replace the pretentious esoteric monologues with more of a “show don’t tell” approach to exposition. But in its current state, I wouldn’t call it a “cinematic classic” like everyone else does.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

Though I agree, I guarantee Hollywood would’ve used some timey-wimey bullshit to negate that ending and make terrible sequels regardless.

The first one is definitely not a fun watch, but the second one is absolutely delightful in its wackiness and how unapologetically “Rob Zombie” it is.

Speaking of slasher remakes from the '00s-'10s, the Friday the 13th adaptation was the perfect distilling of the first four movies into a single feature. I’m kinda glad it didn’t have a sequel and that the Cunningham-Miller lawsuit has prevented another tacky reboot.

I prefer MrBeast’s older videos. When he was humbler, did more basic videos, had that giant Asian sticker, and yes, I clearly remember binge-watching his “Worst Intros” videos back when they were still up. Good times.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a very good Indy movie and deserves to be acknowledged as part of the series. I concede it may not be as good or as classic as the others, but it is still very good.

Move along, move along.
