Should the sequel trilogy be "reworked" to make them better movies?

One change I would easily make is Luke telling Rey she isn’t related to Palpatine at all, that it was a ruse by him and that it was her own strength that defeated him in the end.

I wish the Sequels had never been created to begin with. So I never had any desire for them to be “reworked”.

Yes, along with the Prequels too. Both trilogies could benefit from a “Special Edition” release.

Totally agree. The fan edits in this site saved episodes 2 and 3 for me. Otherwise I would still think that these movies couldn’t be redeemed (I still don’t like TPM though). If the sequels receive new content in the form of a special edition of sorts, I think that they can be saved from the disaster they are now. But, to me, they will never do this, unfortunately.

I think they should be reworked into worse movies

You could say that unironically is already happening with how they’ve retcon the story to include things such as Rey downloading Kylo’s powers during the mind probe scene in The Force Awakens or having some kind of lightning destroy Luke’s Jedi Temple instead of Kylo.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

Many others agree:

I think they are trying to fix them with Expanded stuff outside the films after the fact making the same mistake as the prequels. Filling in the blanks, rewriting things in context, retconning where necessary. Should have been done during the screenplay stage don’tcha think. There is that Lando and Luke book coming out that is meant to Fix Rise of Skywalker.

The Kylo comic with hippie Snoke was weird though. I don’t consider that even canon to the Disney movies. The only thing i liked about that was showing Luke as a teacher and him searching for old jedi temples and artifacts. But it just doesn’t fit with the movie they made.

Its also ironic the guy fixing the mistakes is the same guy as last time Filoni. With the tv shows.

Filoni should stop messing around with the tv shows, and bring us the Filoni SE Saga instead! 😉

I would also settle for a Jon Favreau SE Saga.

But I am more than happy with Hal9000’s Saga, and the many other remarkable Saga Edits too.

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

I could get on board with a Favreau-Filoni Special Edition of the Saga. Free, or ‘free’ on Disney+. A shame it would never happen, but would be interesting to see.

“The other Sequels were the result of an over-anxious press. The original intention was to make three [films], and that was really the end of it. It was not until 10 years after the first [film] that I thought of doing a back story.” - George Lucas, speaking at the Premiere of ROTS in 2005

They should have kept the idea of an unknown man behind the mask the whole entire film with Luke Skywalker even fighting him and losing his life.

Luke’s padawan is a good Ben Solo who tries to get revenge on the masked villain for killing his master, but he ends up seriously injured.

The big reveal in Episode IX is that they cloned Luke Skywalker using his right hand, and it takes all these heroes, old and new to take him down. Rey loses a limb in the final battle.

Just as Rey is about to be killed in IX, Finn force pushes him back. Rey is shocked at his power.

Rey barely defeats evil Luke. Rey gets a new arm. Finn learns the ways of the force with Rey. They both visit Ben Solo recovering in a bacta tank. Force ghosts Luke and Leia are seen by Rey.

Ending the film with multiple scenarios for our heroes and the choices they decide to make.

You live up to your username, but I have zero interest in such a thing. They seem more concerned with fanwankery than anything else.

The ST should be given the Armin Tamzarian treatment.

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

I wish something could be done about episode 9. It’s awful. I’d have to say no though. Much like Lucas changing the OT, I wouldn’t abide the inevitable changes made to 7 & 8 in order to make them work better with what came later. These retro-active alterations always seem to be inflicted on the wrong films, making better stuff worse to fall in line with lesser material.

I prefer Rey Nobody. It means the Force ‘chose’ a nobody as its new avatar, outside the Skywalker or Palpatine bloodlines. Force power is hereditary, but sometimes it manifests very powerfully in unexpected families. Similar to magic in Harry Potter. There’s something beautiful about that idea.

I think if I could change only one thing in the trilogy, it’d be this. Not only do I prefer it too, but walking Rey’s parentage back was just so jarring and damaging to the integrity of the story.

I mean, they’re free to try.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

Starlight, Rekindled, and Ascendant (either version) are pretty darn good.
