I’ve got the upscale done. Looks great to me. I’ll do another post once I have it somewhere accessible to others.

keep your eyes peeled for the eventual V2 with the adjustments suggested by Adywan himself

Great 😃

I just learned about the extended scenes being taken out of this new edit. That’s a huge bummer. Every time Adywan kept saying “They didn’t work”, I was aghast. I thought they worked great given the resources used to make the edit! Those moments will be greatly missed.

I was surprised and very pleased to see the 1st version of Adywan’s ANH Revisited had the extended TIE vs X-Wing dogfight!
I was wondering why those scenes will be cut for the HD upgrade?
Thanks and keep up the great work!

Is the Ronto here going to be included or removed from these shots during the entering Mos Eisley scene?

I hope so, I like it. It’s not too intrusive and it makes it look more interesting.

But the trends of the edit and the editor tell me no. And if that is I won’t mind too much.

This is just me talking, but I prefer those shots without the Ronto. The scene looks better to me without it.

At least you’re not the only one who thinks this. I’ve been watching 4K77 recently and I think the scene works without the Ronto.

Adywan, please reconsider your decision to remove the extended Death Star battle sequence. It was one of the best parts! Almost everyone in the comment section of your April 3rd Facebook post agrees. We all think it should be kept in.

Bridgr12 I’m sure adywan tried it out and found it does not work in the HD version or maybe he just was not happy with it to start with so I think let’s just let adywan do he’s thing and make the version he feels most happy with, after all this is he’s edit.

Adywan is a perfectionist and I’m more than excited to see the version he is most satisfied with. colour corrected updated effects lightsabers lasers and corrected mistakes are more than enough to make this edit amazing.
he’s empire strikes back is great and I’m sure this will be just as great.

I agree with you 100%, Bridger12. I think it would be a huge loss if he cut the extended Death Star battle. It was one of the main highlights of the edit. I know he doesn’t really care what anyone else suggests, but it’s about 95% to 5% in favor of keeping it from all the comments I’ve read.

darkzip is doing an upscale of ANH:R SD so why not create your own version that has the extended DS attack when the HD verrsion is released?

Darkzip’s upscale turned out better than mine. I just ran SW:R through Topaz as is, I didn’t know enough about the controls or dials to adjust anything.

The thing is, I know that Blu-Rays will be made of the Revisited Trilogy, likely with menus, and I wouldn’t know how to create a new Blu-Ray using those menus, since I’d be replacing the movie. I also don’t know if the audio will be lossless, and I don’t know how to export edited videos with lossless audio.

Keeping the actual edit close to the Academy Award-winning version is probably preferable.

Thanks for doing this darkzip. I just checked it out. Unfortunately you used the NTSC version of ANH:R but didn’t remove the 2:3 pulldown first to return it to its native 23.976fps and has resulted in a 29.97fps file with multiple duplicate frame throughout, resulting in jerky playback. You’re best bet would have been to use the PAl version for the upscale. It has a higher resolution than the NTSC and would result in an even better result. You can then just change the framerate from 25fps to 23.976fps without having to reencode and remux with the NTSC audio

I have the PAL video/NTSC audio remuxed already as well as Topaz. If darkzip isn’t able to do it, I’d be happy to do an upscale similar to what I did with Brave Little Toaster.

I’d love to get a proper upscale copy of this older version. Count me in.

I just checked the copy from Darkzip and the playback is indeed a little jerky. The upscale really looks fantastic compared to DVD quality so hopefully that framerate issue can get sorted out.
