I need some honest feedback on these releases. I received a bad review from a user pointing out a lot of things that I have not heard anyone else mention anything about. I need to know if these are legit issues that I need to look into resolving.

First, they indicated issues with the 5.1 audio track only being in AAC and not in AC3 format. For those with 5.1 setups, has this been an issue for you? Have you not been able to use the 2.0 edits because the track was not in AC3?

Are users able to get the subtitles that are built into the video file to work? They are intended to work without you having to have the external SRT file. I know some have asked for the external files, which is why I provide them, but those have mainly been where people didn’t know the subtitles were there already. Is this an issue that users are seeing?

Finally, what are your thoughts on the video quality? With doing higher compression to get the size down, I knew there would be some compromises on quality, but I haven’t seen this. Do others think the quality is poor? The comment indicated that it was “painful” to watch these with the quality drop from v1.5. Are others seeing and experiencing this?

I’m not looking for pats on the back or praises. I need legit honest feedback. If these suck, tell me. I haven’t gotten that impression from anyone that has seen them, but maybe only the people that like them have given feedback.

  1. About the sound issue, I don’t have a good sound system so I cannot really said anything about it.

  2. In your v2.0, the embedded subtitle Track 1 is working fine for me on my computer, the Track 2 is not displaying much (what is it for?), at one time it showed “Chapter 7” on HP 3 but that’s it. I didn’t watch the whole movie with it so…

  3. The quality is ok on my computer screen, but on tv it’s really low, it feels like a 720p version of the movie.
I would prefer to have a 8Go/13Go file for each movie with a greater quality.
I just compared the v1.5 vs the v2.0, and the quality is considerably lower in your v2.0 (there is a blur effect, lost of details, especially on the skins).
    The video bitrate was 10 on HP3 v1.5 and on the v2.0 it’s 3.7.

Especially because you are the only one with those type of extended version of the movies, so I would make sense to have it as full quality one, and people can always reduce the file size by recompressing the videos.

Or maybe have 2 versions the one you have that is more compressed and one with high bitrate/high video quality.

I 100% agree with what Heathen3017 said:
“You should produce the best quality that YOU want to deal with, not to others.”

So please don’t compromise on the video quality/file size.
People can recompress the video easily and quickly, if they are bothered by it.
But us HP fans/viewers of your quality work cannot increase the video quality of what your release 😃

I haven’t gotten to watch these yet, but I did notice an increased softness just skipping around after you released them. I did know you really wanted to go with the smaller file sizes, so I didn’t say anything.

Also, as far as audio and specific to my home setup, aac takes a double hit in lossy quality. My system re-encodes AAC to AC-3 in order to pass it to the tuner. AC-3, DTS are passed untouched and most lossless have the cores passed.
Like I said, that’s specific to my setup, so again, not worth mentioning.

I wish I had gotten some of this feedback sooner so I could have addressed the issues that are obviously present in this release.

I have made the decision to temporarily take down my v2.0 releases due to quality issues. I am rendering out high-resolution h.265 releases, which is what I had originally intended for this version. There were complaints when I first mentioned I was going to do this for v2.0 (“my system won’t play h.265, how could you do this to us, blah blah blah”). I should have stuck to my guns instead of compromising quality for a few people. These will be at a higher render quality to produce a better viewing experience. I will also be adding the AC3 audio track back into the release. Again, I took someone’s advice that the track was unnecessary and only added extra size to the files. I should have not taken this advice and again released what I felt was right.

So, lesson learned. I will release what I think should be released. If your system can’t handle it, that is not my problem. Long ago, I used to get the yearly release of the EA Sports NHL game for my PC. Every year I had to upgrade something on my PC in order to play the game well. I could bitch and complain if I wanted to, but ultimately EA released what they wanted using newer technology. That is what I am doing here. The h.265 codec is more efficient at compression to lower file size without compromising quality. If you can’t play these files, don’t download them. I will not compromise quality again for a few people that will complain.

It will take a couple of weeks to get all of the new renders done since my system renders h.265 at a slower rate. Hopefully the end result will be worth it.

For those that want to complain about having spent time downloading this previous version, just hold your complaints. I don’t want to hear them. All I can do at this point is say I’m sorry for wasting your time. I cannot make everyone happy and in this particular case I haven’t made anyone happy.

I’m really happy that you decided to trust your guts and that in the end we are gonna have high quality video files to match the high quality content they already are.

So thank you so much JJpotter.

I just rewatched the entire movies v1.5 months earlier, so it was a bit too recent in my mind, to rewatch them all with the v2.0.

But I will check your new movies files when they are released, and try to hurry up creating the French subtitles too. 😄

You mentioned that nobody is happy with your release, but you are wrong.
A lot of people here are happy to have extended editions that otherwise would have been imposible to see.
I’m very happy with your work.
And I’ll be even happier when you finish the new h265 movies.
Thank you very much
Regards

I’ve stumbled upon your extended editions in the past month. I’ve watched the extended versions of the first two films and last night finished your extended version of Order of the Phoenix. I understand you need more time on your H.265 versions but I didn’t have your extended versions of Deathly Hallows and the Fantastic Beasts films so do you have an estimate time for when these editions be finished? Not rushing you but I really want to see Secrets of Dumbledore in 4DX before it switches over to the next movie, which would be on May 5th.

Also, thank you for enchanting us with your extended editions. Without you, I might have to watch the original versions of 3-8 and the Fantastic Beasts films

If you would read earlier posts, you would see I pulled the edits due to video quality issues. I am uploading new versions one at a time as I finish them. Be patient!!!

Sorry if im wrong, i see Harry Potter 1 and 2 subtitles in caption but are they really available as Extended Editions?

Version 2.1 files have been uploaded. These are in h.265 MP4 format with an average bitrate of at least 8000 kb/s. I have not had the time to view each film prior to release due to requests asking where they are. If you find anything wrong with these, please let me know.

There are officially released Extended Editions of these films. I accidentally uploaded the caption files for the versions that I created for my personal use, but cannot release them publicly.

What’s the differences between your version and the official extended movies 1 and 2?

Dear JJ Potter,

I am still fully enjoying all of your Extended releases. I am currently watching them for the third time to be honest haha.

I was wondering if you had already seen Secrets of Dumbledore, and what is your opinion about it? I found it very refreshing and quite a good movie in comparison with the Crimes of Grindelwald.

Are you planning to make an extended edition of Secrets of Dumbledore as well? I wasnt able to find deleted scenes just yet, but it makes sense since the movie is still in theatres.

I appreciate your work and thanks for all the effort,

A big fan

For anyone seeking the links as it says on page 1 of this post “Please send an email to jjpotter.releases@gmail.com for additional information. DO NOT SEND ME PM’S ASKING FOR THEM!”
Send an e-mail and if I remember correctly you should get a reply e-mail pretty much immediately with the links.

Forgot to say, thanks again for HD versions of your fanedits. Life got away from us and never got to watch v2.0, but I sure enjoyed the v1.5 quality and look forward to experiencing that again with your new updates.
You’re definitely a wizard yourself they way the completed those unfinished deleted scenes. Absolutely magic!!!

Hi, JJ, I’ve found these deleted scenes from The Secrets of Dumbledore.

May be there’ll be more, when they released the blu-ray.
Are you going to make an extended cut of the 3rd film?

JJPotter,

I’ve been a solid fan of the Harry Potter series since before the Philosophers Stone reached UK and then Sorcerers Stone the US. I would love to have a custom copy of Prisoner of Azkaban through Deathly Hallows Part 2.

I’ve seen your terms about owning a copy, - do you need proof of ownership? I still have the DVD sets of the films if that helps.

If you could provide me with a copy, I’d be extremely greatful!

I’m an amateur video editor myself so I fully know how much time, effort etc goes into making just one movie into good quality.

Thank you for reading.
