The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 611

I think I even know the day I saw it the first time. This had not come to mind since I was a child, but I remembered that my grandmother gave that VHS tape to me on Valentine’s Day. I remembered associating the purple-pinkish color of the vacuum on the cover with that because of the holiday. And given landmark events in my family, it had to have been 1995. So V-day 1995 it must’ve been. I then, out of boredom and curiosity, found a list of VHS releases and videos from YouTube of the openings. The “V2” 1994 reissue put out in November’s commercials felt very familiar, so that was the VHC I had a copy of. The memories I have of watching that tape at her house have a specific range of time, all being when I was age 5. So this movie takes me way back! I’d only seen it probably five times or less after that point until recently, though two of those were as an adult.

That’s awesome! I have the same kind of feeling when it comes to E.T. and Superman. I always remember My mind being blown when I thought my Dad paused live TV. My first introduction to VHS, which I later became obsessed with.

Are we just old af? Haha!

Why did Disney choose not to release any deleted scenes for the home release?

Not to derail the thread, but I think it’s because they wanted to avoid more toxic fan backlash. Probably wanting to avoid rants such as, “Why the F did you take this out!?” “You don’t know how to make a f-ing Star Wars movie!?”

Things like that.

The unused material would probably expose the film’s rushed development and lack of direction. Things like Rey’s lineage were aparently still weaving around while filming had already started, so I’m sure other major plot points also shifted and changed all the way till the end of production.

I just want to know who Matt Smith was playing.

According to Matt Smith himself, he was going to play the main villain before they decided to bring back Palpatine. He would be a completely new character, deeply connected to the mystic background of Star Wars (although we’re not sure in what way). He never filmed any scenes, though: By the time they started shooting, the main villain had already been changed to Palpatine.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:

Whatever was cut from Episode IX, it probably would have benefited this project in so many ways.

I definitely think it’s this. There are probably deleted scenes that contradict the finished story, as opposed to most Star Wars deleted scenes that were just cut content or alternate versions of the same story.

Like, remember the Finn vs Phasma alternate take that was deleted in TLJ? Imagine that, but Rose gets killed by Phasma, or maybe Phasma joins the Resistance. The fanbase would freak out and spend the rest of time complaining about missed opportunities (you know, moreso than we already do).

True, but we know that they had to have shot a legit Force ghost sequence.

While that is a possibility, I do think it’s in part on what the director cares to share with the audience. The deleted scenes that would’ve been shared would probably be too unfinished that even the normal audience would be lost. I highly doubt that it is because it would expose the lack of direction because u have rogue one which had major production issues and had no deleted scenes. Then look at solo, probably the most disastrous production of the Disney Star Wars movies, and there’s a bunch of deleted scenes. Even TfA, the original Blu-ray release didn’t have deleted scenes, only the second re release. I just think to quickly assume based on fan reaction and fan sentiment that that’s the main reason TROS lacks deleted scenes is premature

The original force awakens blu-ray had deleted scenes on it, the second release just added a few more.

Fun fact: even the new Lego Star Wars game replaces the Aki Aki puppet show with the story of the Skywalkers. In that case it’s Anakin, but same difference, really. Just thought it was cool that the devs thought along the same lines there.

Really? I guess I missed that!

Too bad they didn’t also have the Force ghosts on Exegol and Ben at the end with Luke and Leia like this masterpiece of a fan edit.

Cool! Do you happen to have a clip? I’d be curious to see it.

It was a side mission thing on Pasaana. I just played through it last night, really liked it. Nice coincidence.

Time-stamped clip of the puppet show (sorry this video keeps skipping through the dialogue):

(Really like how this game handled TLJ too, speaking of it. They really let it be emotional (in a silly Lego way) and didn’t shy away from showing any of the more controversial stuff or changing much. Really impressed.)

Save the Sebastian Shaw Ghost! Save the dream…!

Funny that you mention that, as I found myself wishing the ST had been a bit sillier. Lego AotC and RotS are extremely silly, and had many of my favorite moments in the game. They also sell the Anakin/Padme romance way better than the movies, with the Clone Wars voice actors as a bonus.

Still, the saga as a whole is done very well, and it’s a wonderful experience getting to free-roam around the galaxy. There’s a lot of stuff in there for fans; one of my favorites is the inclusion of the caretakers’ village and dance-festival on Ach-to, which is from the deleted “lesson three” scene of TLJ. The playable character roster makes some fun choices too, like Mister Bones from the Aftermath trilogy.

Keeping things a bit more relevant to this thread, I’ve definitely been keeping an eye out as I play for any things that remind me of Hal’s edits. Anakin and Padme sleeping together (in separate bunks, lol) without arguing the night before, Anakin not telling Padme about the sand genocide, and Anakin having less hesitation on executing Dooku come to mind. Granted, a lot of that comes from how rushed it all is, but hey, at least rushing all the episodes makes TROS blend in better.
