I prefer the 97’ cut. Victory but with Sabastian Shaw.

This is the best post in this thread so far. 😃

I enjoy both endings. Yub Nub is a great ending to the trilogy as a whole. The Victory Celebration is a great whole saga piece, I prefer the 97’ cut. Victory but with Sabastian Shaw.

A version with the new song, no montage, and Sebastian Shaw would be an acceptable compromise for me.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

That’s subjective.

Yub Nub is fantastic. I loved it when I was 10 and I love it now. It’s a feel good song for a feel good moment in the movie, and I get it stuck in my head. I think I think the new song sucks, but I’m not sure because I can’t even remember it.

That makes sense, because the new song isn’t very memorable. It’s pleasant sounding background music, but it’s no earworm.

Yub Nub is way better and it’s also what Wicket says to himself when he scurries away in order to surprise the storm trooper so Leia can take him out.

It’s supposed mean “freedom” or “hurray” in Ewok language. It’s great.

I always get a little frog in my throat when the strings swell up and turn Yub Nub into an incredibly emotional moment as luke sees his father join obi wan and yoda.

I love it. I hate the change.

Agreed 100%! For everyone who says the new music is more emotional and yub nub is just silly I try and explain this, but if you don’t get it, you just don’t get it.

You’ll laugh! You’ll cry! You’ll kiss three bucks goodbye!

Since I always hated the Ewoks, Yub Nub drives me insane. Yet, the new song and victory celebrations around the poorly done CGI-looking galaxy were bad too, plus make no sense when watching ROTJ without having seen the prequels.

I made a fan edit that removes all the Ewoks, and replaces the ending song with another Star Wars track that is fittingly moving. I also removed the silly force ghost “happy ending” and replaced it with the final image of Luke burning Darth on the funeral pyre.

Star Wars was never meant to be cute, but George wanted to sell more merchandise.

R2-D2 was definitely meant to be cute.

“Lapti Nek” and “Yub Nub” rulez, “Jedi Rocks” and “Victory Celebration” droolz.

I second that.

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.

I can’t bear to see Jedi Rocks and Victory Celebration paired together. One is my most disliked SE change and the other is far and away my favourite, and one of the best pieces of music from the OT. This is sacrilege.

Agreed. Yub Nub has always been way too goofy for me.

Still, I prefer closing out the movie with the concert suite version of “Luke and Leia.” It fits more with the rest of the soundtrack and works with the OOT edit of the ending.

I think Yub Nub has so much more heart than VC, it feels fun and joyous. After experiencing the sombre tone of Vaders cremation, it lets us know its okay to enjoy the relief and outpouring of affection of the celebration. Where as for me VC has a tinge of sadness to it, which feels less satisfying as a close to the film and the trilogy.

I’d also say as a piece of music Yub Nub stands out and is memorable, as opposed to VC which is painfully middle of the road.

I always disliked Yub Nub… until I heard what they replaced it with. Now I’m obligated to admit Yub Nub is the best musical finale for this film by a mile.

I’d prefer the concert suite version of “Luke & Leia” for the ending.

Yub Nub is John Williams’ attack on historical materialism and an appeal to the working class to rise up against the bourgeoisie.
