BTW, we’re discussing if Cobb Vanth survived, but I just realized that we just saw the canonical death of Figrin D’an at the end of this episode. However, I didn’t see Max Reebo, so maybe that sneaky little blue elephant managed to cheat death once again?

I love Timothy Olyphant, I don’t think I care about anything else in this show but Timothy Olyphant, I hope Vanth isn’t dead. 😦

I don’t think he’s dead, but I think the citizens of his town will save his life by taking him to get a mod, like Fennec.

He was only shot in the shoulder so I don’t see why the mods will be needed, but we’ll see. He’s definitely coming back though, otherwise they would have given him a more obvious and dramatic death.

Yeah, the bartender is taking him to Boba Fett, where he will place him in the Bacta tank to heal. Cobb Vanth will explain what happened to Boba Fett and Fennec, they will know right away it was Cad Bane.

I’m thinking the next chapter will be at least an hour long

His voice, however, does sound a little bit off, or is that just me?

The BTS doc for Mandalorian S2’s finale explained his voice is completely AI generated, and it stuck out a lot to me. Really odd that they don’t just get a VA, but the AI also really sounded spot on a few times. I’m not sure how to feel about it tbh. Huge shoutout to Shamook off of YouTube, assuming he had a hand in Luke’s deepfake this time around.

Hmm a lot to unpack there. Overall I think I liked it. But once again, the most interesting parts of the Boba Fett show are the parts that have nothing to do with, well, Boba Fett…

EDIT: Im starting to come down from the high now. I still think it’s weird that they keep shoving you-know-who into everyone else’s story.

I’m calling it, Din will take Cad Bane’s ship after he’s killed.

Why are so many talking about Din taking a new ship both here and elsewhere online? He already has a new ship. And seeing as him going back to bounty hunting for a 2nd time would be odd character growth I don’t see why he needs a replacement.

In flipping back through the episode to marvel at Shamook’s handiwork, I noticed that they transitioned from a shot of the casino/cantina burning to an establishing shot of Luke’s temple. (I don’t think it’s the same building that we see destroyed in TLJ, but still.)

And Mando’s new ship’s interior pulsing sound is similar to Grogu’s theme that plays when he’s with Luke.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I always assumed he lived aboard the Razor Crest too, unless I’m missing something.

True. But living on his ship was also part of his profession as a bounty hunter. It hasn’t been explained what he’ll do going forward, but changes are happening, so I’m assuming he’ll find something a bit more stable. Not to mention that him having the Darksaber sets up him potentially becoming the new Mandalore. And for the moment he’s staying with Fett.

So we know there’s a big chance to see Han Solo and Chewbacca, but does anyone think we’ll get a quick shot of Leia using this new deep fake technology? Or will they respect Carrie Fisher’s family and not ever show her again on film or television in live action after Episode IX.

What do you think?

Fett vs Cad Bane showdown, who’s ready?

Robert Rodriguez wasn’t kidding when he said The Book of Boba Fett “way over-delivers”. What did I just watch? What show am I even watching at this point?

If transferring characters from animation to live action is so difficult, don’t do it. If trying to get different series to inter-connect with one another in a natural way is so difficult, don’t do it. It really is that simple.

I think Disney is simply unable to tell a good story so they rely on existing and established characters to throw easy, weak and unsurprising fan service, which always looks quite ridiculous. It’s again the case with this episode. After the disaster of the ST, one would have thought they had learned from previous mistakes, but nope. It’s getting worse…

It’s a shame, really.

So long 🙌

I think Dave Filoni’s work on Clone Wars, Rebels and Mandalorian season 1 is generally great. Either Jon Favreau or massive fan expectations or both have been a bad influence on him.

I didn’t like Mando that much but TCW and Rebels are mostly fine yeah.

I find The Clone Wars to be the sort of series one watches to pass the time, nowhere near the TV masterpiece everyone is making it to be, and I absolutely despise Rebels.

Seriously, I don’t get why Filoni is so highly regarded.

Well, he was a director on the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. By coincidence, I’d argue that it’s the weakest season of the three. It’s still good, just not as good as the other two seasons.

Or it’s Disney. The Clone Wars was George’s baby. So it was experimental and free of committee filmmaking. Rebels didn’t really have that high of expectations going in as the budget was significantly lower and there was disgruntlement over The Clone Wars being cancelled. Rebels just had to look and be like the Original Trilogy. It gradually incorporated the Prequels into the plot. It rarely felt like Disney meddled but it shows a couple of times. Namely with when Ezra plays with the Dark Side. It was overall a low risk, high reward show. I’ve not seen The Mandalorian but from what I’ve gathered the second season is more heavy on fan service. I’d also consider that season two didn’t come until after The Rise of Skywalker. They had to attempt to “save” fans. Plus both Jon and Dave seem to have good will with Disney. Especially Jon as he did deliver them the goods on Iron Man and setting up the Marvel Universe. They also gave him the live action Lion King film.

Disney will do whatever they feel will make a profit. It’s why the last episode before the current one out now had Mando go through the podrace track and other Easter eggs notable to The Phantom Menace. They’re targeting the Prequel generation now.

Fan service isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it depends on how it’s used. It should always serve the story in an organic way first and foremost.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

Slight canon break, so small in fact that I don’t really care, but figured I’d mention it either way. Yoda’s lightsaber was technically smelted down by Mas Amedda in a ritual show in the first issue of the Darth Vader comic by Charles Soule, but I suppose Yoda could have made a replacement during his years in exile. Or I suppose there could have been other small lightsabers found at the Jedi temple.

The saber’s appearance in the comic was itself a retcon. Originally it was established by a reference guide that Yoda kept his lightsaber at his Dagobah hut, then came the comic and had the saber destroyed by Mas Amedda. I think one of the guys from the Story Group suggested that Yoda had multiple sabers or the one Amedda burned was a fake.

I really liked the episode and the fan-service did it for me. The only thing detracting from it was that again Boba felt like an extra in his own show. It was OK to switch the focus to Din for one episode that acted as an interlude of sorts. But two back-to-back episodes? I hope it doesn’t end up acting in detriment of the story, cause I feel Boba’s personal stakes are a bit weak at this point considering we’ve got one chapter left. I hope they can handle a satisfying climax and not lose track of Boba’s story. After I watched this I thought to myself “They’re really doing a second season. No way Boba only was in for 5 sevenths of his own show”.

Back to the stuff I liked.

The ROTS flashback left me agaze. Seeing the Jedi face the 501st clone troopers kind of made me wish the actual ROTS film focused more in the Jedi Purge itself and had more scenes set during the fall of the Temple.

The soundtrack for this chapter was amazing. Cobb Vanth’s theme was back and the Grogu training scenes featured some nice mixes of the classical Force theme, Ludwig Goransson’s “Force theme”, Grogu’s theme and Luke’s new theme.

The CG for Luke was sooo much cleaner, thank the Force.

I kind of expected Cobb Vanth and Luke (though that didn’t diminish my enjoyment of their appearances) but I was truly speechless when I got to see Ahsoka, and almost fell off my chair when I recognized Cad Bane. I’m still getting accustomed to his live-action design but I’m glad they kept Corey Burton to perform his voice.

I’m very intrigued by the Ahsoka-Luke interactions. When and where did their first meeting occur? What’s their consensus on Anakin Skywalker? Will Luke show up in the Ahsoka miniseries?

My wife isn’t an obsessive SW fan, pretty much seen just the movies and then The Mandaloian (which she liked a lot) and BoBF (which she is tepid about and pretty much watches because I am watching it).
She hasn’t seen The Clone Wars cartoons and I have only skimmed them – don’t like the animation, it just doesn’t sell for me and I have a hard time watching around that – but I do know who Cad Bane is. I was looking forward to his introduction into the show. We watched the new episode and she looked at him and said, that is the fakest looking thing I have ever seen in Star Wars.
My concern with Cad Bane is that they pull a Walking Dead with him where they introduce a heavy into one part of the franchise and then kill him off in the next episode. Even though I am not a TCW fan it would be a real slap in the face to that part of the fanbase if they did that…and the way things are going I can see that happening.
