Thanks so much for this Mango and glad I could help. V2 is looking and sounding great.

If I may make an observation; as with V1, it’s still running at 60fps as opposed to the source (theatrical) framerate of 24fps meaning that the encoder has altered the source by adding duplicate frames. I can’t see any reason why this would be done deliberately so I’m guessing it’s an error in the encoding settings. Would it be a simple matter to re-encode with the original source framerate?

Well, I tried encoding at 24fps, but for some reason that caused it to drop frames and become choppy. I’ve had this problem with other projects in the past. It doesn’t add frames when I do this somehow, but it does keep it from becoming choppy. My guess is that Blu-ray rips of older movies especially are running at a high framerate to retain things like grain, where as the motion remains 24 fps. It’s something I’ve found with every project I do, and I don’t quite know the reason. I can tell you that it is non interpolated and doesn’t fill in frames unless I tell it to.

I don’t know, Final Cut Pro is weird. I could attempt a re encode, but it might cause some quality loss.

This is kind of a stupid question, but just to be sure, are you making sure that the original file being input is the same framerate as the project in the program, and of course then exported at the same framerate?

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

Ok. I can confirm that the UK BD framerate is 23.976fps. So if you ensure that your project is set to that framerate and you export at that framerate then there shouldn’t be any playback issues.

The source I used in Final Cut Pro was 24fps, and I imported it into a 24fps project. For whatever reason, It lagged. The only speed it wouldn’t lag at was 60fps. Again, it is not adding interpolated frames unless I tell it to. I think what we have is the best we’re gonna get. I might make a barebones Blu-ray later, and Encore will correct it to the proper framerate without any playback problems. This is the way it’s been for all my projects on here.

It’s sadly not possible to make a project at that framerate in final cut. The lowest it can do is 24fps, and I converted the m2ts you gave me into a format that Final cut could support, as m2ts files are unsupported. The source I used in Final Cut Pro was a 24fps mov with no quality loss, and I imported it into a 24fps project. For whatever reason, It lagged. The only speed it wouldn’t lag at was 60fps. Again, it is not adding interpolated frames unless I tell it to, so it’s even thought the project is at 60fps, the video runs at the proper frame rate. I think what we have is the best we’re gonna get. I might make a barebones Blu-ray later, and Encore will correct it to the proper framerate without any playback problems. I understand and if that’s your final word then I’m more than happy with things as they are and thank you once again for this project. I know you have other projects and only so much time to work on them.

Can I ask however if you would consider sharing your FCP project so that I might take a look into the issue myself?

Good news 😃. Did you ever figure out the issue with the 24fps frame rate?

Sadly, no. The raw file for the new version is being encoded at 60fps, but will be set back to 24fps when the blu-ray is made, so it hopefully won’t make too much of a difference.

Thanks again for providing the UK BD source btw. This wouldn’t be possible without it! 😃

Anyone knows if the tracks from the German UHD BD would fit to the video?

I have a question about the two files that come with remuxing the ISO. What are the differences?

I have no more links sorry.

Will do in future though

The Seriously Ultimate Edition is much closer to the laserdisc, so mine will be similar to that.

Great news! But for a flawless finish, in my humble opinion, this film should have:

  • The OAR, all Blu-ray releases are open matte (1.78:1 all but german UHD) and should be 1.85:1 (1920x1036, black bars on the top and bottom 22px each)
  • Bryanston Pictures logo at the beginning. You can find it on the Blu-ray release of John Carpenter’s “Dark Star”.

There’s been discussion on blu-ray.com about the mono audio on the Second Sight UHD but also the other UHD releases. I’m trying to determine what the original theatrical mono mix is supposed to sound like from anyone who has a scan of an original print, here’s a couple of quotes.

“looks like SS’s mono track is missing Sally’s initial grunts/screams as she gets her hair caught in the vines. They ARE present on Dark Sky’s mono track though.”

“Chapter 10 around 53 minutes 50 second mark. More like a moan than a grunt.”

“Dark Sky’s BD’s mono track had an extra looped scream from Sally during the climax when she’s on the truck. Not sure if there were anymore. I believe it was actually a downmix instead of the actual mono track.”

Some confusion for sure. It’d be nice to know what sources all 3 UHD releases used for their mono track. Some suspect fold-downs for at least one of them but it could be that there were both additional sound effects and effects taken away in those scenes for home video or maybe there were changes made to later theatrical reprints?

Anyone have any info about this?
