Shot 6 shows the same problem as the Farsight transfer - the white level (contrast) is set far too high. Lower it and you will not lose so much detail in the overblown whites.

This shot has a little too much contrast

I think that the Moth3r transfer is the best looking of the screenshots. IMHO.
Rock. Nirvana. Awsomeness.

Yes, I'm a tad jealous of Moth3rs results.
Hopefully, when I can get the PAL version discs mine will improve a bit, but I'm still going to create this interim version for now anyway.
Cheers!

Any chance of the Dark Jedi transfers making it on here?

You can now see Dark Jedi screencaps on Moth3r's comparison page, but I'm not sure which of his transfers they're from (he's done three that I know of: DefCol, Faces & Special Collection).

Think they're from the definitive collection. Didn't know he'd done a faces set as well. Would like to get some shots from the Japanese special collection transfer.

Citizen's shots are also up now.

I am opening this thread up to feedback as well as an open intivation for new screenshots from finished projects that are not currently included. The original feedback thread can be found here.

At the moment, I'm looking for anyone willing to make screencaps from Citizen's transfer (preferably the PAL version), as well as any of the dark_jedi releases. Post here or PM me for details.

My Projects:
[Holiday Special Hybrid DVD v2]
[X0 Project]
[Backstroke of the West DVD]
[ROTS Theatrical DVD]

Are you going to include the ~10 EditDroid screens I sent you a few months ago? Or do you need someone else to send you the remaining shots?

The LOOK version has been labeled as SE ld capture, this is wrong. I'm pretty sure it was taken from the faces NTSC set.

Moth3r's looks really good in bright scenes but pretty awful in dark scenes.

I think Xion's is the most consistent and is apparently almost as good as the Spec Ed DVDs!! (How on Earth has he managed that?!)

I suppose someone might concentrate on inserting the altered scenes back into the Spec Editions. There would be a quality jump when you went back to the Laserdiscs but if Xion can capture so well then you might not notice that much! Plus it would be easier to concentrate on one scene (Hans Shoots First for example) and get that perfect rather than trying to do the whole film in one go.

OCPMOVIE already did this, WITHOUT the quality jumps (some scenes have slight quality jumps but most of them are unnoticible)
He just released Return of the Jedi Classic Edition, in September he released The Empire Strikes Back Classic Edition and back in May he released Star Wars Classic Edition. There are all great masterpieces!

Because when I first started out, I was trying to get as close as possible to the SE DVDs. I spent hours in Premiere trying to get each shot looking like the DVDs. Of course, we all know that the SE DVDs have their own color isssues, and aren't really a good color reference.

That's excellent, zion, and the commentary on what to look at is really useful.

Now, one of us needs to fix the thumbnails in the first post...

I never realised just how much detail was lost in the dark scenes on the official DVD.

Look at the improvement you get if you alter the levels of the DVD to match those of the laserdisc:
