The Force Awakens: Starlight (V1.1 Released!) — Page 52

Here’s the Kylo Deleted Scene integrated into my edit in what I’m hoping is a final form:

If this is acceptable there’s just those couple of shots near the end of the film to complete (as well as any Restructured changes I missed)!

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

So with everything you’ve learnt with that deleted scene in removing timestamps do you think you will ever tackle the Finn and Phasma fight scene from TLJ?

If I was to nitpick I’d say add a tad bit of colour correction to the new cockpit shots but otherwise, looks and flows great!

There is color correction to every shot, but maybe not enough in some places.

Though you might want to avoid watching this edit when it’s done unless you are resigned to port more changes to Restructured 😉

I take this warning seriously.

Ha!

I’m not nearly skilled enough to recreate that scene, unfortunately.

JEDIT: Happy Star Wars day everyone! Sorry I couldn’t get the entire project finished by today, but at least the biggest change is now complete. 😃

I still dislike the meta humor about the trash compactor, but this scene inclusion does provide an ambiance which is quite beautiful. Very well done, really. Isn’t it the music also used on TLJ Luke’s moment deleted scene?

So long 🙌

I believe so. It is originally used in Ben and Han’s confrontation in TFA, which is why I used it here as sort of a leitmotif.

Semi-relatedly, I realized after creating the effect of Kylo watching the shield going down that it could serve as a bit of a metaphor for his emotional state at this point. It’s a bit of a reach, but it works for me 😉

This is the best the scene can be for now, as there is missing footage from the start of the scene that makes continuity tricky, as well as the unfinished VFX towards the end

Wow, that is really impressive work that definitely needs to appear in a TLJ edit.

Lol, #starlightdetails

The use of some of the footage from Vehicle Flythroughs was a brilliant idea too. It’s basically the perfect place to put it, and helps give the scene even more weight.

Since I don’t have a finished V1 for Star Wars Day, I decided to release another workprint (v105) which has all of the latest changes. It’s now in the folder with the rest, so if you have the link to any workprint you have them all.

The only changes still outstanding at this time are:

-The two Restructured changes foreshadowing Palpatine in TROS
-Tweaking the Starkiller firing shot from Finn and Rey’s POV
-Removing the casual Resistance officer from Leia’s mourning
-Adding brief Sith Eyes to Rey in her battle with Kylo

Also, keep in mind that everything past the Starkiller destruction will be reverted to Restructured for the Starlight Standard version, in order that this edit can be watched alongside the sequels with no continuity issues. The unfinished Luke vision is still in the workprint however, so just ignore that when giving feedback 😉 . The extended Starkiller Destruction and Luke Vision ending will be saved for another version of this edit to be released at some point in the future, which I’ve described in the first post of the thread.

I think that’s it. Happy 25th everyone!

Definitely have to agree with Nev’s comment. Seeing this just makes me want this scene in Restructured lol. Nicely done Nev.

Lol, the wonderful silence in Nev’s version almost made me forget that powerful line.

Truly. I considered keeping it, since I’m sure the audience would like to know what the hell is going on in that mysterious masked head. 😛

JEDIT: Speaking of that moment, in the previous versions I had the sounds of child Ben running, but like the aforementioned line I felt it was too on-the-nose and with the vehicle flythrough footage I figured that was more than enough to get the point across. But someone has told me they prefer the child sounds, so what does everyone think, yay or neigh?

I liked the child sounds, but I do think it works well without it, especially now that we get to linger on the controls of the Falcon. I think that alone gives the audience enough to chew on.
