Info: Fixing the TFA and TLJ Deleted Scenes — Page 2

I would be so down for a 3 hour extended version of The Last Jedi, but maybe that’s just me. If only I knew professional VFX so I could finish all the scenes, just watched the Phasma one and I’m so sad I can’t put it into the movie lol

Same… that Finn vs. Plasma showdown scene has to be one of the most coveted for finishing.

That’s good stuff.

Did someone edit out the “SOLO!” line as well?

Yes, I edited out the “Han Solo” line. I think it’s better without it for multiple reasons, but because in my fan edit I still had the scene back at the base in which Kylo senses his father’s presence and says his name, it didn’t make sense for him to say it again. He then goes and finds the Falcon to confirm what he had sensed.

Anyway, that’s the way I like to see it played out. To me it shows that Kylo may have been feeling a bit of nostalgia on the Falcon, a feeling that he believed he didn’t want, a feeling that angered him. Overall, I look at Kylo Ren as someone who is being so played by the dark side that he’s always on the virge of insanity, intentionally being kept unstable. Just like his saber.

I don’t think this is a new revelation to anybody, really. Just my thoughts.

Plus, it’s more than easy to re-add dialogue to a scene that only had visual changes and the character in question is masked.

Based on the discussion of the Kylo Falcon scene, I wondered what progress has been made in modern content aware filters so I did a test in After Effects and compared it to Telecine’s work:

Keep in mind that Telecine probably used multiple approaches whereas I simply threw the shots into the machine and rendered the results. The settings were set to ‘object’ tracking, and I did a fade around the timecode of 5 pixels. I think some of these results are pretty good, all things considered. Of course, Telecine’s work is more seamless in most shots.

In particular, shots 2 and 4, the long tracking shots, are both improved in AE. There’s some trouble with both, but it’s not insurmountable. Also, shot 5 looks just about perfect to me right out of the can. This is good news to me since the moving camera shots are the hardest to work with in my traditional Photoshop approach. I think a combination of approaches would be ideal here, doing the more painstaking image replacement for static shots with elements moving past them, and content aware filters for moving camera shots.

Although, I wonder if the ‘surface’ option is better for static shots where objects move in front of the background. Used with the ‘reference frame’ option, it could be ideal.

So, has anyone else played around with this or other content-aware filters, and if so, are there any tricks you’ve found to get good results?

Huh, that is pretty impressive. I knew content-aware fill would be pretty useful for fan-editors.

From what little I’ve used of it, I’ve found it pretty hard to tweak the settings very much to get drastically better results, but I’m sure someone else has more knowledge about it than I do.

Clean as … something clean. Sorry brain isn’t working. 😂

Glad y’all like it 😄

For TFA the remaining scenes that could be used in edits would be:

-Finn and the Villager (Mostly done by others, but some shots are merely cropped)
-Jakku Message (Though not sure what else could be used in edits if they save the Leia Reveal)
-The first three shots of Unkar Plutt at Maz’s Castle (The rest has unfinished CGI of course)
-Tunnel Standoff (Though it’s a legitimately bad scene with no payoff and also has a larger timecode than the other scenes)
and
-Finn Will Be Fine

Yeah the Falcon one seems to be the main one anyone would want. TLJ on the other hand…

Wow! Really cool. I would appreciate a link as well. Might edit it into Restructured just for the heck of it.

I would absolutely love to get any of the TFA and TLJ edits that you have. (The Kylo/Falcon one looks fantastic!) I finally have what I need to start working on my TFA, TLJ, Rebels and Mandalorian edits. I’m so excited!!! These would really help!!!

I’ve only done the Kylo scene, FYI, that list is just scenes that could be completed and used.

OK, well, I’d still love that, please! 😄

And of course a high quality version available via PM.

JEDIT: I’ve also added the “Ship’s Clear” voice replacement by Axlanian as a separate file in the folder.

Great job. Would love the hd link thanks.

The shots of the comms guy looking at the screen, getting the message, and running off/bumping into Snap could still be used, I think?

Kylo Falcon looks great!
